View Full Version : Desert Goliath strategy questions

I finally saved up the frags to get Killer Shot and there's nothing more in the game that I'd like than a Blackbull, so naturally I should head to Desert Goliath.

My runs so far have gone pretty well, but they're a little slow (64/10 Caseal Fortegunner). I'm just looking for a little advice to speed things up:

1)What is the fastest way to kill the humaniod enemies? I've been using Yak Megiga(30) to infect them all, then pulling one of them from the pack at a time to kill. My Killer Shot is only level 14 right now, once it hits 21 will it be decent for taking these guys out? How do you guys deal with these enemies.

2)Grinnas. One at a time is cake, Boma Riga all day long, but 3 at a time can get a little tricky for me solo. I clear the room of the other enemies, then circle the Grinnas, trying to herd them towards the middle of the room. Then I'll quickly turn and lanch a grenade, if I'm lucky it'll hit all 3 and stun them so I can get into a rythym and just stay put. I'm thinking there's probably a better way.

3)How much of a difference will SE4 Incapacitate make? SE3 Killer Shot is decently reliable, but can still take a while sometimes. Should I just level Killer Shot by running this mission, or should I level it somewhere else then return when it's 21+ (I'm on PC, no turbo gamepad, so AFK leveling isn't an option).

4)Boss tactics. To be honest, I tried to fight the boss once, got frustrated, and abandoned the mission. What works against this boss as a Fortegunner? Are there any specific strategies I should be aware of? After all the [B]Blackbull drops from the boss boxes, so the boss fight is pretty important in regards to my hunt http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Hopefully some of you experienced players out there can shed some light on these problems. Thanks a lot.

I can help you with 1 and 3, because I mostly KillerShot-level in Grove of Fanatics S2.

1) Yak Zagenga if you have it, other than that it's probably best to stick with the Infection strategy. Or try Melee if you want to. Killer Shot isn't very impressive on the humanoid enemies.

3) A pretty big difference. My levelling never got fast until I got Killer Shot to 21+. It is very much worth the extra time and PP cost. I mostly levelled AFK, but Valley of Carnage is a decent place to level since everything there has high Stamina.

That's how I got it to 11. Took 6 C rank grinded rifles with Killer Shot into VoC S, emptied them, abandoned mission and recharged. So monotanous though http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif. Good to hear it'll improve noticably at 21 though.

For the humanoids, I'd alternate between Burn and Shock crossbows. Burn's a better DOT and lands easily.

For the boss, you'll learn the ins and outs (literally, when you can dodge by running right up to him... and when its time to drop what you're doing and run away) of each move with experience. I prefer to wipe out his "leg" thing so I can get full-damage shots on his body with no effort spent aiming, than try and snipe weak points all match long.

Having done a few solo runs myself as a Caseal Fortegunner (69/10) i Can give you advice on a few things that helped me

1. Get a Strong Ligthing element Armour. Agehna-Senba's are cheap and easy to make.

2. Bring Virus and Virus G Traps for Grinna's and then use Dark Bullets at lvl 21+ when your traps run out

3. Humanoids types are best dealt with a Shotgun I find and bring NPC's to help clear em and take some of the aggro from you so you can DOT em (fire and ligthing work best)

4. For Magas himself DO NOT TAKE OUT HIS HOVER UNIT. Instead aim for his shoulders most often since they take a lot more damage then his other locations (expect his spine) and only aim for his spine if you have a quick and clear shot. Also never EVER circle him clockwise always Anti-clockwise.

Actually, if you're on PC you can use JoyToKey (http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm) to get autofire. Just set it up as mentioned in this guide: http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=145734&forum=22
Then you can use a buffed King Go Vahra to afk level Killer Shot. Since buffed Enemies are kinda immune to SEs you won't accidently kill them.

Thanks very much =) I'll give this a shot. Also thanks everyone else who's contributed some advice to this thread.
