Halo 3

I know there's a topic on a commercial or somewhat on the front page, but it just made me want to throw up this topic right here. Feel free to merge it or delete it or whathaveyou if it isn't appropriate.

Halo 3 is going to be out in a matter of days, and I'd like to hear my good friends at PSOW's take on the game.

I've deprived myself of pretty much all Halo 3 info until today. I've pretty much spent all day watching Halo 3 videos, reading about Halo 3 multiplayer, campaign, new weapons, etc, and all I can say is WOW.

I just got done watching a video ( http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_4339.html , the first few minutes of the campaign, no real spoilers here), and it was purely amazing. The 'saved replay' feature looks absolutely brilliant, and I'm going to see myself playing around in it for hours upon hours. The person in that video does a numerous amount of awesome things, such as pause the game during an explosion to see all the carnage it causes from all angles, he deviates from his own character to go watch a Marine fight all by himself against three Brutes, and he goes inside of a Pelican dropship to show you the detail the designers put into it.

It really is amazing. The new Brute weapons look completely badass, of which my favorite has to be the new Spiker Pistol...

Apparently, this little motherfucker shoots like a cross between a Needler and an SMG, and is able to ricochet shots off of walls to hit people behind cover and the like. Fairly awesome. Also of interest is the Gravity Hammer, the same type of hammer used by the main Brute boss in Halo 3. Holy shit, being able to fucking smash a vehicle that's coming head on at you? I gotta say, shit like that sounds a lot more awesome than that little energy shiv.

Really excited for the 4 player campaign as well. I want to get a 4 man online campaign going, if only so I can be the 4th controllable character, some Elite in cool purple armor. Ugh, it's going to be really hard to resist the urge to play Versus before I beat the campaign, but I don't want to go online and have something accidentally spoiled or that sort of thing.

I could go on and on about this, but I'd rather hear from PSOW: What do YOU guys like or dislike about the soon-to-be-here Halo 3?

Out of all the new weapons the return, of the Assault Rifle was my favourite. You no longer have to start with a pea-shooter. The AR is great for close-mid range battle and pretty versatile. One mag won't kill off an opponent so you'll have to either use grenades, melee, or secondary weapon to finish your target.

Spikers are great too but I only use them in combos. Dual Spiker combo is the most powerful close-range weapon.

The AR was kind of a pea shooter to being with. What they really need to bring back is the original Pistol, haha.

I've been waiting for this game since I finished Halo 2 campaign...and can't believe it's so near! I played the beta, and man....it was incredible! I mean, they didn't have half of the save game features, and no campaign or anything - but I still loved it MUCH more than Halo 2.

What really gets me tickled is how Bungie says, with Halo 2, they really didn't have enough time for polish. They barely got the game out working, and even then there was plenty of bugs that spoilt multiplayer. And how now, they've had almost 2 months of pure refinement and bug squashing. I really can't wait to find out the story, but can't wait even more to play co-op with my friends online.

I've gone so far as to be getting uni work out of the way before it's even started, so I have a good 3/4 days uninterrupted gaming. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it THAT much.

Oh, and the Assault Rifle was by far my favourite weapon. Viva la tripod...

Everyone will notice that they pulled out all the stops in regards to weapons for this release; we get the flamethrower, a missile-pod launcher, and a chaingun.(all used through the third person firing mode)

I've had mine on pre-order; actually my mom kept tabs on it being released and had it pre-ordered for me as a belated birthday gift, which was pretty nifty. I'm looking forward to it, but I haven't really been thinking about it with other things going on.

the spiker is only good when its dual weilded. you can kill a person with an assault rifle pretty fast. the carbine is alot better. the pistol still sucks. the spartan laser is the best weapon in the game imo. cant wait for the full game to drop

ya 4 player campaign co-op is what a lot of people are gonna do from the get go.

I mean multiplayer versus will always be there, so best to save that last once the campaign is over. then when MP gets tiresome, more co-op campaign goodness. then back and forth.

I dunno about Forge though, even if you can make like 8 vehicles on the map, there are only 8 players for Forge matches, so there'll be a lot of empty seats in most vehicles.

That tactic works in pretty much any game that uses a tracking-type missile weapon. You aim up, the weapon arcs, and has more flight time to hit the target as opposed to smacking the ground or any debris. It's akin to more or less shooting down on your opponent.

I'm quite the fan of indirect fire weaponry, personally.

Not only that, but there's also the fact that using the Replay feature, you can look absolutely anywhere in a level. Hopefully, that means that even areas you dont get much of a look at will be slick, since you'll be able to go and take a deeper look at them, and look for 'Easter Eggs,' as well.

My wal-mart doesnt allow for preordering, but Im going to be picking it up there at midnight anyway, and apparently all Wal-Marts are getting in a fairly ridiculous sized number of the game to meet with high demands.

Really excited for this game. Gonna try to hand in my college work for Tuesday early, so I can take the day off and screw around on the game all day. God, I'm so fucking excited for it. Just playing Halo takes me back to some of my favorite times, going over to my bud Tom's house, getting like 10+ of our other buds over, all chipping in for some pizza and soda, and just spend Friday Afternoon/Night blasting eachother in Halo 1. So much fun, and a great way to start the weekend.

When Halo 2 first came out, most of my friends got it and headed online, and it was like that all over again, except you didnt have to worry about screen looking. I'm hoping that with Halo 3 it'll happen again.

The only thing that bugged me about the controls in the Beta was that when playing Southpaw (Lefties represent!) the control scheme only switched the Triggers around. Meaning that after I finish firing the left gun with the Right Trigger, I had to reload with the Left Bumper. As if being a Southpaw wasn't confusing enough. >_> I can't tell you how many times I switched Grenades by accident while trying to reload, and then thinking I had Spike Grenades and hitting someone in the helmet with a Frag. ;_;

Hopefully there's a more customizable control scheme in the retail version.

Well, I played through the first Halo and didn't give a flying fuck zbout the story. I can hardly remember anything other than a comical teleportation mishap.

There is only one thing I need to know: Did they fix the controls so that I can manually aim my weapons? I grew tired of that soft-lock bullshit real fast but did not see an option to turn it off.

Reading various stuff at xbox.com forums, it seems most of the limited edition discs are coming out incredibly scratched.

My cousin and friend stopped over last night after picking up their copies in Fort Wayne, and they were pretty horribly scratched. The game disk wasn't too bad. We poped a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label and fucked around in campaign mode - but his extras disk had a large circular ring engraved into the surface, and multiple scratches radiating from the inside of the disk on out. He spent about 3 hours on phone with GameStop and Microsoft only to find out that Microsoft doesn't handle issues like that, and GameStop doesn't do returns or exchanges on Limited Editions. He eventually got some kind of a reference number to give GameStop that they supposedly have to honor with a disk exchange, but we'll have to see how that turns out. I kinda get the feeling she was bullshitting him, since it took at least 20 minutes to get this pakistani-speaking (or something or other, it wasn't english) bitch to realize that it was the GAME DISK, and not the HALO 3 LIMITED EDITION ELITE CONSOLE that was scratched...

Anyhow, my other cousin hooked me up with a copy, which is sitting in Chicago right now awaiting either him coming down, me going up there, or a FedEx delivery truck. I'll probably have it by this weekend in any case.

Dood those things are a fucking bitch on Legendary. They can shoot you with precise aim all the way from west bubblefuck and they take a shitload of ammo rounds to die. Not only that but they can stick themselves to high hard to reach places so if your out of ammo your SOL. I love it though!

I'd throw my GT out for random invites, but yeah, it says it doesn't even exist on XBL, so i'll wait on that. ;_; If I bought my gold membership for $50 for nothing because the server hiccuped after already charging me, and won't lemme have the GT I signed up with, i'm gonna have to use the Gravity Hammer on my wrist...

Yeah, I can say without a doubt that this game blew my expectations to pieces.(I didn't have very high ones, especially after Halo 2) Incredibly well crafted campaign. Brings back the awesome feel of the orignal.

I'm about to beat the game on Heroic(because my friends are intimidated by the description of Legendary when you choose it as a difficulty), and my god this was a fun ride. Matter of fact, there was so many lulz I have a feeling i'll be replaying campaign considerably more than I did with the co-op on Halo 2. Don't know about the death match stuff yet, haven't tried them yet. I'm gonna give M$ a day or so to get the kinks and lag down on their servers and get XBL back up before I give those a whirl.

My favorite thing of Halo 3 is what the enemies say.

My absolute favorite line so far is when you die and one of the Grunts says... I want his boots!

Chief made it with Cortana, barely, before getting through the portal. The ship they're in is broken in half, floating out somewhere in the middle of space. Cortana tells Chief she'll put up a beacon, but it could be years before they're found. Chief goes into cryo-sleep, Cortana says she'll miss him, and Chief goes to sleep.

Needless to say, I picked up a copy of Halo 3 today ( it just came out over here in Europe ). So far, it's pretty good. I still think Gears is a superior game but Halo 3 is suprising me.

That sounds like the Lag. If anyone in the game has a shitty connection it will effect everyone. Last night a buddy of ours was having bad connection problems and we were having bad lag, jarring gameplay, as well as some horrible mic feeback. Later, someone else replaced him and things went perfect.

Halo 3 has the greatest co-op experience I ever had, even moreso than Rainbow Six Vegas.

4 players co-op really makes the game 4x more fun. ^_^

for a super intense session, try 4p co-op on legendary.

The journey on Heroic was awesome, but the ending was a let down. I mean seriously, I thought...

Halo destroyed the source of food for the Flood, and not just the flood? I thought they made a big deal about that in the previous games; how they could fire Halo and get rid of the flood, but then found out it was a suicide key for themselves and to make the Flood starve? I'm confused.

Also... the ending had me asking several questions.

The Brutes. Where the hell did they all go? Grunts? Hunters? etc. What happened to the Gravemind? What about the Flood attack on earth? They where spreading pretty fast on that one mission, so did they get ALL of them in the explosion they where gonna cause inside the city? How did Johnson die to a boss that only depletes your shield and can't kill you? Scripting? God modding?

If Master Chief survived Halo's attack, the whose to say the Flood and Gravemind didn't too? I really hope there is some closure to this on Legendary, like an extra cutscene showing stuff vaporize or something, cause my imagination just ain't working right now considering MC survived.

And who the hell uses collapsable tiles on an installation in space. That last mission was lulz.

And that final boss fight was laughable compared to the final one in Halo 2. I mean, WTF. Didn't even kill me once, all his attacks do(I stayed in them and just kept firing) is just deplete your shields. The ultimate battle to save the universe, and you can't die. W.T.F.

But yeah, currently throwing my controller around the room on Legendary and all those one-hit-kills the snipers do with the damn good accuracy they have... lol

That halo, I believe, would only fire in The Ark. So basically, it would destroy all the corpses that the flood could infest, and than they'd get out, leaving the Flood alone there to starve. Turns out it doesnt matter, since everything blew the hell up. Maybe they knew that it would blow up, I don't know, but that Halo didnt activate the others outside of the Ark if that's what you're thinking.

Gravemind was in The Ark, so he died. All of the Covenant on Earth had actually been where the Ark was discovered, they were only 'spreading' so they could get a defensive perimeter. I'm guessing once the Ark opened up, all availible Covenant were shipped inside of it right away.

The Flood attack on Earth was stopped by Shipmaster Rtas or whatever his name is. Remembered, he 'glassed' half of the continent to kill them, rather than 'glass' the entire Earth.

Johnson didn't HAVE a shield, so the lazor just burned right through his body. If he had a shield, he most likely would've been fine.

Master Chief should have died. I thought the ending was pretty cool until they were all "NOPE!! NOT DEAD HAHAHAH GOTCHA!!!" I think it would have been fitting if "humanity's hero" went out with a bang.

The Ark built that installation. When you start on the last stage it says you're on Installation 00 (Guilty Spark's was 04, if I recall correctly). The Ark was building it, and when they went to fire it Guilty Spark warned them not to because there was a high likelihood of the ring exploding due to the structural strain it would have to endure. When Johnson says he doesn't care, Guilty Spark zaps him because he wants to be the Monitor of the new installation.

It's not the old one.

Before your screenshots show up on bungie.net You have to put something up on your shared downloads stuff. Just upload some screenshots or a clip. Then after that all screenshots should automatically go into your screenshot page.
Even then though, it'll still take awhile before your screenshots show up. Feel free to add me to your lists so we can get some Assault or team capture the flag games or whatever going.

Not sure if this has been done before, but I took the liberty to make a Zombies gametype closely resembling what was played in Halo 2. Green and Red teams, Shotguns and Swords only. The only difference is the Alpha Zombie and the Last Man Standing get some boosted stats to make things interesting and fair/balanced.

Last Man Standing is also able to use the Warthog, Mongoose, and Ghost vehicles. Should keep things fun and interesting.

I found that the best way to get the kill-achievements was to go for some kind of objective game, like King of the Hill, and just shoot people while they're in the hill.

Hell, it's how I got my Commando Helm, and how I plan to get the Ascetic Helm tomorrow.

Glitch me and my friend found while looking for skulls. When you get out of the map, your Xbox starts acting like it has down syndrome or something. Lots of strange and wavey colors, incomplete geometry, and everything leaves a permenant trace. If you've ever used No-Clipping mode on DOOM or DOOM II and walked out of the map - it's remenicint of that. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up in screenshots.

If you could post pics of the armors Obsidian that would be sweet. Has anyone ever seen people in game rocking the Katana? Theres a pic of someone with Spartan armor on Bungie favorites wearing it. Gamefaqs says you unlock it by getting all achievements and finding all skulls. I wonder if Elites wear it too.

Not a big surprise. I see the little lights in Japan lit up all the time. The thing I don't understand is that I never see ANYONE from Russia online. I've even seen people from Qatar and the Congo region of Africa. Egypt, Ethiopia, North Korea... but no Ruskies.

Did they ban the game over there or has it just not shipped yet? You'd still expect a few importers though...

I just unlocked that Katana tonight (get all the Achievements and Skulls). Doesn't do anything except look purdy.
