View Full Version : Odd PC behaviour

Two days ago, when I started up my PC, I was greeted with a black screen, informing me that my clock had stopped, and that it needed resetting. Once I'd logged on, I reset the time/date. I asked around, and people told me it could be a sign my motherboard's battery is on its way out.

Since then, I haven't had the time reset itself anymore. However, ever since it happened, more and more things are going wrong on my PC:

-Whenever I load PSU, my music in Winamp skips and crackles. It'd always been fine until the clock error.

-Xfire (an instant messaging program for games) now doesn't work correctly (the keyboard shortcuts aren't functioning correctly)

- I randomly lost my internet connection repeatedly after this clock error occured.

These all could be totally unrelated, but I find it strange it's all happening now, after the clock error showed up 2 days ago.

I'm running:

Windows XP Home SP2
Intel Pentium 4 HD 2.80Ghz
512MB RAM (I know I need more memory, but all of the above were running fine before this error occurred)
NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT 256MB

The only suggestions I've had as to what is going on so far are either a motherboard battery needs replacing, or overheating.

If anyone has any suggestions, or knows anything about what might be going wrong, please, let me know- its driving me crazy http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Thanks. If you need any additional information, I can probably dig it up.

Edit: Clock just reset again, looks definate that it's the motherboard battery.
