Second... a comment. You can get another PS2 right now, for only $149.99 if you live in North America, and certain stores (like Fry's Electronics) usually throw in 5 free PS2 games of your choice. Also, PS3 isn't that bad. And, by next spring (these are rumors, BTW) the PS2 is supposed to drop in price to $99.99, and the 80gb PS3 is supposed to drop to $499.99, because a 40gb PS3 has been confirmed, at a price point of $399.99 to come out some time in Spring of next year.

if i were to post all the trouble i've dealt with playing this game, you'd wonder why i'm still putting up with it

go to gamestop, get a used ps2 slim. you have 30 days to return it if something goes wrong on you (and with what i've dealt with, chances are, it will). so if it does, go back, exhange, rinse repeat until satisfied.

My copy of PSU had not left my PS2 since the week after launch; yes, mine was delayed. At some point it stopped reading and I opened the cover and guess what? A thin layer of dust had collected on the inside and was stuck to everything. A good wipe and can of air did the trick. I have a very early model PS2 (big daddy) and never cleaned it, left the sucker on for days at a time, had it fall off the shelf a couple of times, and have had ppl kick / knock it around since being moved to the floor.

It's been used and abused, but just keeps going. (like a bi-polar ADS student with a dominatrix fetish) On the other hand, the slim model, which I babied, lasted me around 7 months.

You can get the PS2 professionally cleaned/fixed fairly cheaply. Just call Sony repairs/warranty, explain the problem and they should be able to give you directions.
