Female Newman Fortefighter, Go!

I've been playing PSU for two months on 360 now and I decided the first day that I hated being a force (just like on PSO), so once I got all three regular jobs to 10, I took fighgunner to 10 and now I'm working on fortefighter. I got it to 8 in a day so far and lv23 Anga Redda. It's quite a challenge. I'm level 68 with 1551 HP, so I have to watch out for volfu kicks. Anybody else love doing strange combinations with characters? Cast techers? If I could take a picture I would, but if you can go for it--let's see what you've got.

I have a male Newman Fortefighter and Protranser as my main. He's been in a Hunter since character lvl 3.

I have a Cast Fortetecher, she's a lot of fun. The combination comes with some strange side effects that make life both easier and more challenging at the same time. As an example Regrant: due to low TP (about 50% of Newman at the same level), she does less damage and takes less HP drain, which is great combined with high HP (level 87, 1420ish HP). Stun locking a group of enemies for extended periods isn't much of a problem, and you can really keep the flashing lights going to inflict the maximum number of seizures in the party.

Busting out the SUV never gets old too.
"Wait, that techer is a CAST!?"

I love hearing about people doing gimped classes, though. I think one of the most impressive I've seen is Beast Fortegunner. The ATA mod does plenty for their racially low ATA, and their attack power is nothing short of ridiculous.

eehh I've had a male Newman Hunter since day 1.

I later on levelled his Force and Ranger (we didnt have advanced jobs back then), stayed in ranger and did fortegunner, guntecher, then switched back to fortefighter......... now he sits as a fortetecher. I levelled a Beast and a Cast to 100 to take his place as melee/ranged jobs.

Nothing wrong with newman fF if you have 50% weapns and armors. With this setup you will easily outdamage 95% of beasts out there. But you will get frustrated when you meet the remaining 5%

I love my female cast FT. Though I pretty much play her as a GT whenever I get tired of my gimped 10 support techs. But still, the use of rods are most usefull. And I love the look of them with my cast.

I've been running with a female Newman Hunter since day one. Straight and pure and nothing else for her. Currently level 83, weapon of choice tends to be my axe (though Gravity Break has given me a sick new love for my sword). What's sad is despite my currently lower stats and mostly low element weapons, is I've noticed I'm generally a better player than a lot of people I've run with.

I've also got a female Beast Protranser (my most "normal" character, I think) and a female Cast Force, soon to be Acrotecher (I built her with the idea that she could charge in and heal/buff/debuff; Acrotecher came along rather perfectly with everything I needed).

My main is a jack of all trades, master of one.(I know how the saying really goes, but this is the best description I can give) My main type is of course a Fortetecher, being your normal Newman. But I have put my foot into every other class except for Fighgunner, and I have found that I enjoy gunning over fighting.

Man. If only PSU had more character slots. I don't want to give any of my current characters up, but at the same time, I have this idea for a male Newman FF ...

As for myself, I've got capped levels in RA, FG, FI, and GT. FI is good for capping (and using) dagger PAs, FG is good for, well, making the most out of my SMG's bullet PAs ... but GT allows me to use the full scope of my collection of machineguns that I've been yearning to get.

I don't even have any TECHNICs or own a wand; during the time I was a GT very few people realized that I was, indeed, one.

I believe it was figured out that you only need a bit over 1k EVP to block attacks well from most enemies at lv 100. That's what makes AF and newman AF so good, they can actually put EVP to use and do it rather well.

Shadoogs have roughly the same power as a handgun, so with all of the TP a newman one (AF has more TP than an AT, BTW), they can deal some decent damage on top of landing some decent SEs. The S grade one even acts like a laser cannon with penetrating shots and better SEs.

So yeah, newmans are good at a fighter class that beast and cast don't do as well at, for a change. Though in part because the class isn't directed entirely towards damage but more towards being a tank that deal damage and SEs. They do attack very fast compare to the other normal classes, so EVP will easily not be an issue and work in the favor of a well played AF (or AT really).

My CAST is an FT.

And you know what? My techs might be pretty weak, and I might not be evading anything....But you know what? I'll do my damn best to support you, and do everything else a Fortetecher does.

Unlike many Newman FT's, when I buff, I don't buff just because I have to. I buff with love. I also carry resta on each of my rods ('cept buffing rod), and have two healing wands (one with Resta + Reverser, one with Resta + Giresta). So yeah, I got your back.

Once you've got your character and several-hundred-hour time investment in their level and PA's and everything, it's wildly ineffective not to change to whatever the most effective JOB is for the current team and mission. Jobs take what, a couple hours to max out now?

There's your justification for poor race/class combos. A female newm fortefighter is better at melee than a female newm anything else. A cast fortetecher heals and buffs way the hell better than they do as a guntecher. If that's all you're doing for the current party, take 5 minutes and change jobs at guardian HQ.

Anyway, there’s no such thing as a “bad” class and race combination, just more or less efficient ones really. A Newman hunter still has the advantage of being a hunter (juggling mobs and dealing high damage); a Cast force buffs, debuffs, and heals just as much, if not more, than everyone else and no one really cares about tech damage; and a Beast ranger has enough ATP to give him a solid second place in output.

The hell are you talking about? You have 2 of the most powerful classes in the friggin game, Newman Protranser and CAST Fortetecher. The only classes that can compare to it are Lapucha and Chuck Norris.

Probably not that big of a deal, but I play a Beast Fortetecher. Yeah, not as gimped as the CASTs, but it's nice to be able to get in there with the Gi TECHs, do nice damage, and not die. That coupled with Vande Val throws the lowered DFP to the winds if you're in a pinch...

About time someone said it out in the open http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Come 1Up, I'm working on replacing my current main (Beast fF) with a Newman one. After seeing a few Newman fighters, especially Rain, I can't see anything bad about them. I guess one way I can say this is- some people can solo missions with monsters which are many levels higher than themselves. Let me tell you, it's not because you play an optimal combination. Most games are balanced so the player has an advantage, you're just broading the advantage by playing an optimal class. (See Dynasty Warriors- How can you kill 500+ people, and multiple enemy generals on your own? Easy, NPC AI generally isn't as good as the decision-making power of a human being, and NPC's don't take advantage of health items etc)

So yeah, being an optimal might help you more, but it certainly doesn't make 'gimped' (phrase still makes me laugh) characters useless.

I can't wait for 1Up now, and Acrofighter in AoI looks hot, especially for a Newman.

Edit: Oh yeah, insert 'learn2play' here.

Other than when you can equip weapons(Cause really, once you can use 9*s, it doesn't matter what race/class you are), it really doesn't matter much.

Hell, I got a newman female fighgunner, and the only thing stopping me from enjoying her really is she can't equip lots of stuff yet, but 20 levels from now, it won't matter that shes got lesser stats than a cast or beast.
