So, I am now unemployed.

I was doing contract work, so I knew I was going to be going soon. BUT, here's the kicker. I was given 3 hours notice for being layed off. Three hours. Several other people I worked with were given the same 'benefit'.

It's not that we were layed off due to our skill, it was because there was no more work for us. But yeah, 3 hours notice is nice. "Hi, sorry, but today is your last day here." "OH! Thanks!"

Back to job hunting.

I am going to be unemployed in February. My boss is moving the store further away, so I won't be able to get to it. But at least I have a several month warning. That sucks for you. Dunno what to say. Sometimes people are pricks and either forget to tell you ahead of time or decide to tell you at the last minute to mess with you.

Was it like a layoff in a high turnover kinda job?

(learning about unemployment this last week)

So you're considered a part of frictional unemployment, seeking out a new job; you don't want to be in the discouraged workers numbers of those that were seeking out a new job but couldn't find one.

Good luck on finding the new job. Get the unemployment benefits/job seeking services if available too in the meantime.

Sadly, I don't qualify for unemployment insurance. Would have been nice.

BUT, since I knew this was only contract work, I have financially padded myself for about 2 months. In the meantime (while looking for a junior artist position at a game company) I'm going to get a McJob to add to my income.

So, I'm pretty well off, just jobless. ;P

McJob, eh? Why not go to work with the King?

Anyway, I feel really bad for you. I know what its like to have no work. >_<;

He had that job before his Japan-exchange trip if I remember that right. Food service isn't fun.

But a job is a job.

I just use McJob as a term for a general service industry job. Buy yeah, it's pretty much all the same.

Sounds like a positive mindset for an upward swing. I'm sure you'll do fine, good luck. ;o
