View Full Version : So, what does everyone think of Guitar Hero III?

As we all know, Activision bought the rights to Guitar Hero (part of the Red Octane buyout, somehow), and passed development responsibilities to Neversoft, they came out with Guitar Hero III.

After bastardizing at least one character design outright, removing two well-made characters completely, and adding in a completely unnecessary and horribly unbalanced multiplayer mode that's almost entirely based on luck, how does everyone think they did?

I've only played the demo, but I wasn't too big on it.

Obviously the gameplay didnt really change in it. I got bored of that other multiplayer mode too and me and my bud just went back to head to head mode for more fun. The thing is, the art? Like, the characters doing shit? It looks so fucking atrocious compared to Guitar Hero 2. It's like they tried to take the cartoony style and combine it with a realistic style and they came up with something that should have been drug out in the street and mercy-killed.

Also, sure I think DragonForce is OK, but the song they chose is a terrible song of theirs. Instead of picking one of the songs of theirs that sounds the same as every other one, they could've picked one that actually sounds different. Oh well, I guess.

I'm just gonna save my money for Rock Band instead of picking this one up.

Ok, I agree on every part of Scrub's post except the first line and the second paragraph.

The art was atrocious. Horrible. Again, should be killed. I don't care how it happens. Just does. Kill it. Now.

And on DragonForce: I love DragonForce. Through the Fire and Flames works just dandy for me. Perhaps Operation Ground and Pound or something but for a first appearance, it plays quite well. I'd love to see more of their songs.

EDIT: I also love the variety of music in this one more than the other 2. More recent stuff and lots of the old good stuff.

They did change a few aspects about the gameplay - mostly in timing, and use of the whammy bar.

...For example, all HOPOs are (supposedly) based on whether or not you can actually HOPO that part of the song... Which results in some rather long delays between strumming a note, and being able to play the next note as a hammer-on/pull-off. Also of note, would be the complete removal of having to time such a note change correctly - as long as you have the HOPO note held down before the note comes across, you'll hit it, whereas in Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II, you had to actually press the note at the right time.

...And on the note of Dragonforce, a friend of mine challenged me to a Pro Face-Off on the song, on expert. Not only did I win, but I also had the best average score multiplyer ever:

Guitar Hero 3... I have never played that game before, so I don't know what to say about it. However, someday I will try the game out, someday..

The chick in the bar who dances around seriously pisses me off...

But, I'm glad for a more diverse song list and the upped difficulty level. And the guitars are really good too. Just why did they take out mah chars? There was like, no point in taking them out http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Can't wait for Rock Band though, seriously looking forward to it.

Hmm...a friend of mine was telling me about Dragonforce and how wtfawesome they are. Now I know how he came to like them and all I can say to him is http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Not played yet ( http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif @ EU release date), but Neversoft ruined Judy, and removed my Pandora. The tracks had better make up for it.

Through the Fire and Flames looks hard, maybe not as hard as Jordan, but not sure. Can't wait to try Raining Blood though. But yeah, EU release date sucks. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Just tell me if it's better or worse than GH2, keeping in mind that I'm only a Hard-level player at the moment.

I really just want the wireless guitar more than the game, but eh.

I like it, but thats not to say that I don't think rock band will blow it out of the water :/

I tried to find a copy for the Wii, but they were sold out everywhere in my town. I found tons of 360 and PS2 version. I'm pretty sure Activition understalked the Wii versions for some reason.

I've got the Wii version of the game, and I'm quite pleased with it. Playing Through the Fire and Flames for the first time after I beat the game on Medium was awesome for me. :3 The rest of the playlist is quite good as well... the only song I really hate doing so far is Story of My Life cuz it's so damn long and repetitive... >_<

I was kinda bummed out that they took out Pandora and that one 60's dude (forgot his name), but I thought Midori and the unlockable characters were pretty cool (is Grim Ripper still on there?? D= ). I also thought the guitar battles were a cool new addition. Finally, I loved the addition of an online mode, as I tend to be very competitive in video games. >:3

Oh yeah - my Wii Friend Code for the game is 296467497702 if any of you guys wanna add me. I'm not that great on Hard or Expert yet, but I'm getting there. =P

From what I've heard, the Grim Ripper and the God of Rock aren't available on the PS2 and Wii versions. Apparently, they get a robot and an Elvis impersonator, instead.

...And for those of you still on the fence about whether Rock Band will really blow Guitar Hero out of the water or not, go to a Best Buy - they have demo stations set up in most of them.

I'm really enjoying Guitar Hero III. It took me awhile to warm up to the playlist though. As I started to progress further down the list I got to hear some recent songs. Oh, and uh...hard mode is uh...harder on here. On Guitar Hero II I was on my way into expert, but damn...I feel like I got knocked back a peg after playing hard mode on GH III.

Xbox Live Face-Offs FTW!

Inhuman Rampage is just one REALLY long song, I'm sure of it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

They could have chosen a better DragonForce song though.

Fury of the Storm, kthxbai

Waiting for the EU release :/
Does GH3 work with the old guitar, and can i play multiplayer using the old wired one and the wireless one? My sister is one lucky bitch i buy all the games and she is the one with the time to play, she's already better than me at GH...i am ashamed.

It's good, but it looks kinda ugly.

Other than that, the gameplay is solid, and the Dragonforce song wasn't even that hard http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Beat it on my 8th try

I'm working on 2 hand tapping the intro for a better score though. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Online is pretty cool, but I got cheated against by a little bitchy sounding little kid, who had an auto strum thing going, it was pretty sad.

I played the first one and I liked it however I suck at those type of games http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif. The music they have on it will rock what are the bands the have on this installment?

Nope Dragonforce is the hardest metal known to man.

On a side note I felt that guitar hero III was done very well. Good song selection, smooth gameplay, awsome wireless guitar with amazing battery life, and it has dragonforce.

Foo fighters downloadable content was good also.
