I have a lot of trouble drawing heads. My sister says 'it's really easy', but I really don't find it easy.
How do you draw them?
I usually draw a circle and work from there, but...
I would have normally posted this in my other topic, but I thought it might be useful to other members >_>

has some nice explanations.

Here ya go. I whipped it really quick in photoshop. This is universal.
You'll learn this in any art school. Practice it to get better.

Ask away if you have any questions. I'll help ya' out.

Ooops. The ear part is wrong. It's starts proportionally adjacent towards the eye. If you touch your top ear, and follow it to your center of your face, you will notice that the very tip of your ear will match in height with your eye's top.

There. Use the joint part of the cheek line and circle to mark as the part where the ear's top is.

That's good!
I'll give it a shot later, when I haven't got so much to be doing >_>Coursework
There might be a couple more questions following this, but...
Noses!
How do you draw noses from straight on? All of my attempts make the people look like pigs >_>

P.S. @SabZero: it's a good website, but perhaps a tad too detailed for me atta mo... http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Look in a mirror, and try to simplify what you see of the nose. (I usually do a lightly rounded line to make the ball of the nose, and depdning on how big their nose is, the nostrals are added on then.)

Yeah, I guess that would work.
My nose is a bit weird though, so I guess I'll have to try looking through some pictures... >_>
For mouths, you just do a line, right?

You could do it that way if you're aiming towards a more stylized/anime-y look.

though you can do it this way too
http://www.mangarevolution.com/_jpg/tutorials/81/81-archvermin-Drawing_the_Manga_Mouth_A_Brief_Guide-2~1-490x352.jpg
but hopefully the rest of the image would follow that sort of details (ie detailed lips and scribbled in eye/nose etc)

Just a quick sketch on photoshop. Sorry! I don't have a tablet to draw on to show you properly. You'll just have to try to imitate these.

Remember proportion. Each part is always centered in it's own way if you compare it to other parts of the body.

Mmmm, I dont like establishing lines.

A lot of new artists like to start from the head, or a rough sketch of the pose they want.. but that just seems to invite needless erasing. Just try to clearly imagine the pose and detail in your mind, work it out on paper before hand, then start from scratch.

I like to go by judgement, from the final detail stuffs, no step by step progression which just makes lines take too long for me. So I'll draw a hand holding something, attach that hand to an arm that leads into a fur lined jacket, then go off and plant the feet in shoes where they ought to be according to the angle of the legs, work my way up from the shoes to pants to torso without having to erase all sorts of anatomy sketching and making a mess of my paper.

The head gets done in the same fashion, usually after the torsos done. Cause that way you have a pretty clear "scale" to model the head to, so it wont end up being grossly out of proportion like it always was for me in the beginning~ D8;;;

Usually start from whats exposed of the jawline, to nose to hair to eyes, then mouth then neck.. order switched around some depending on which features define the shape of the face most. Like if there are prominent bangs I'll draw those first before the eyes.. but for short hair its usually better to do the eyes first so that the shape of the head is more clear in your mind and you can place the hair properly. :3

A lot of people say to study real anatomy first, cause once you know that down pack the rest is just a matter of "style". Never did that, myself, but I've heard good things.

So I guess my main advice is go wild, sketch all sorts of different positions and angles and poses and expressions, and decide on that has the best "feel" to it. Then take a fresh sheet of paper and try to draw it as cleanly and accuratley as possible, no sketchy lines that take forever to clean up in photoshop, mmkay? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, you either want it or not, but it's not that complicated, really.

Right. Noses and mouths, I need to practice on.
Finally, something to do during RE lessons http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

@Sagasu: My heads are always horribly out of proportion http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif
As for sketchy lines... my speciality. I'm terrible with them D:

@SabZero: Shading! I found a good tutorial on there for shading, but I've got to practice everything else first! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Thanks for the link!

Hair! I've got plenty of ideas for hair, but I can never draw them quite as I see them http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif
Any suggestions?
