How do I type in shapes in chat?

I know alt codes and I can type in japanese... but I dont know this yes.. help?

I still dont know how to make hearts though.
It say ha-to in that guide, but whenever I type that, no matter what i try, I only get two options, and none is a heart.

Be sure to have the language dictionary in the IME choose from more than the default settings.

Control Panel -> Regional and Language options -> Keyboard settings tab -> Keyboard settings ->click on "Microsoft IME" -> (on the right) Properties -> Dictionary tab -> Check "Microsoft IME Symbol Dictionary" option

If you want additional katakana inputs you can check that as well. If you need more information on exactly what menus I'll be able to help but hopefully you understand what I wrote.

Im not sure if the keyboard settings tab is from 2000 or Vista, but Im on XP and there no Keyboard tab ><

The check down at the bottom you want specifically is the Symbol Dictionary. The others are optional that are defaulted unchecked.
