Darkwave.

Primarily electronica. I listen to almost anything, though. Language and genre don't matter, as long as it has an appealing sound and is performed by someone who is actually talented. I like a lot of rock, too, especially in the Japanese Visual Kei genre.

Favorite artists include Kaya, Schwarz Stein, Malice Mizer, Versailles, Velvet Eden, Hora, Aural Vampire, Psycho le Cemu, D, Gackt, Super Eurobeat (so I haven't listened to all 182 of them, but as a genre I like it)... The Hime Trance mixes are rather good, too, but a bit on the girly side so I'm not sure if anyone else here would like them. XD

If I could listen to one musician forever, it would be Kaya, including all his stuff with Schwarz Stein and his Node of Scherzo stuff. That guy has an amazing voice.

So, uh, last.fm. (http://www.last.fm/user/chickenfingers/)
Listing genres like rock, electronic, trip-hop, etc would be about as descriptive as saying I like awesome music--true but basically useless.
Some generalizations which apply to most music I listen to: English lyrics, created in the past 2 decades, not radio-fodder, not a lot of screaming going on.
Sadly, I'm not well acquainted with Baroque opera. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

yeah, another music thread. and we still have our metalheads and the indie kids.

And another chance to whore out last.fm.

http://www.last.fm/group/PSOW+Forever

Whatever, go at it.

I think Aust mentioned this in the last music thread, something about not listening to music like, two weeks prior to the SAT. And I'm going this saturday. And Gorillaz' D-Sides just came out. With limited edition boxset and extra artwork. Shit. I'm going to give my ipod to a friend to hang onto for the week >_<. Last time I had some Barenaked Ladies' song stuck in my head, whatsisname. Humor of the Situation, methinks. And again, this week, too. >_>;

I listen to a lot of rock and electronica, always have. Lately been listening to industrial, trance, and jungle/Drum & Base. Though I've swung through nearly every form of metal and various alternative rock forms at one time or another as well. Generaly if I listen to slow rock it has to be the 80's or early 90's stuff or I just don't like it. I am by no means dedicated to any one genre or band, and unfortunately that means I don't have any expert knowledge in any area. I don't typically keep track of songs and artists, just the type of music I'm listening to at the time. I listen to a lot of internet radio or huge file packs based on genre. I've never really believed in loving one or a few bands or anything, so my music varies by genre, and even that tends to be very dynamic. So I suppose I'm an impulsive listener.

For whatever reason though, for the last two years (mostly metal and electronica stuff) I keep bumping into German groups that I like the sound of.

I'm following Hrigg's excellent example.

I'll listen to just about anything. If something clicks with me, I'll listen to it on repeat for days. For instance, I've listened to very little other than Joy Division and New Order lately, though I think I might be ready to seriously dive into this Rolling Stones compilation a friend sent me via AIM.

Mostly Bluegrass/Jam music. And mostly because it sounds good, and it's free through bootlegging. Live shows sound way better than studio tracks anyhow.

I also listen to a bit of 80's rock/metal, some rap, a bit of country (mostly Johnny Cash and Drive By Truckers), Disco, Oldies, Punk, Ska, Folk, Blues, and various others.

Awesome. What artists?

I like: Progressive breaks / trip-hop / drum and bass / progressive ambient / acid jazz / ...yeah, pretty much any progressive electronica. Gotta hear the music evolve to stay interested.

Favorite artists are (in general order):
Hybrid, BT, Way Out West, Pendulum, Steve Porter, The Crystal Method, Sasha, Jazzanova, Royksopp, Ulrich Schnauss, Jon Hopkins, The Avalanches, Bonobo, Lemon Jelly, The Cinematic Orchestra, Boom Boom Satellites... there's a bunch more, but those are the ones I listen to most. For electronica, anyway.

Ah, I was so addicted to their "Anchor" sophomore year of HS... It must have been on TV or something. I don't know about the rest of their stuff, but that one was pretty not metalcore. I should get s'more.

Well this topic for like the 50th time. I was originally not gunna post cause I'm not cool enough to have a last.fm account to show off on account of several factors but w/e.

If I had to choose a favorite genre it'd definitely be Hip-Hop (AND FOR THE LAST TIME HIP-HOP AND RAP ARE INTERCHANGEABLE; THEY'RE THE SAME THING). But I also listen to R&B, Rock (I'unno the difference in the genres and all that I just listen to what tickles my fancy: Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, Adagio, Led Zeppelin, Anamanaguchi, etc.), Pop, Jazz, so on and so forth. I don't really descriminate...'cept maybe against like...Polka and MOST country.

Guess I probably should have PMed this...meh...

The album Jupiter isn't metalcory (nice word http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) at all, so if you wanna get a full album go for that http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

I've heard 3 of their albums now and that is the least, so yeah.

All sorts of rock and metal really. I'd go into genres of metal, but I'd be here until next week typing it.

As for bands..
Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Megadeth, DragonForce, Drist (best modern band I've heard, thanks for the introduction Guitar Hero http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif ), Lacuna Coil, Manowar (HEL YEH http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif ), Motley Crue, Nine Inch Nails, Pantera, Rammstein, Rhapsody, Rob Zombie, Scorpions (only just started listening really), Slayer, probably a load more I forget.

Oh yeah, I should get more Dethklok too. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

If you want to listen to Iced Earth, pick up one of their albums with Matt Barlow on vocals, should give you a feel for the music (Thrash/Power metal) and the "classic" Iced Earth combination of Matt and Jon. The newest album should be the easiest to find though, having Tim "Ripper" Owens on vocals (not that this is a band thing at all, I personally think he fits very well with Iced Earth but there are die hard fans that cannot get used to him).

I'm one of those people. I actually dug Priest's Jugulator album, but I can't stand Iced Earth with Tim Owens. My favorite Iced Earth album by far is Burnt Offerings.
