I'm trying to install OpenOffice.Org 2.3; but near the end of the installation (according to the blue bar at least, I get an error:
Error 1406.Could not write value to key SoftwareClasses...
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.Even if I ignore the first, dozens of them come up.

I am installing this from the administrator account on Windows XP Pro SP2.

See this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/236592). If you scroll down, you'll see things about permission editing things in the registry. I believe that those permissions are global, meaning they shouldn't just apply to one directory. If not, the error message should give you the entire path to the problematic key - navigate to it, and change the permissions. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Worth a shot.

[Edit: Something also like this (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2416101&SiteID=1).

I can't get the CREATOR OWNER to stay on as full control. After I click full control and apply, it goes back to only having special permissions.
