I have Disgaea 2, not Disgaea 1. Ironically enough, when I was looking for it, the game store had Disgaea 1, but not Disgaea 2.

disgaea 1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> disgaea 2

disgaea 2 failed too hard to even be called a disgaea game http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif
it wasn't bad, but nowhere near good enough.
i can't wait to buy a psp so i can play the new disgaea game on it http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
you can play as Etna as the main character!!!!!!!!!!! >D
my character on the ps2 version of disgaea 1 is level 5000, and my favorite character is the hidden character Prier (from La Pucelle tactics)

The story and main character personalities do indeed blow the big one in Disgaea 2, but I found it to be a more enjoyable play experience on the battlefield. Maybe it's because Magic Knights got the power they needed since they were my favorite class design, though kicking out the Female Ronin did kinda hurt a bit.

The PSP Disgaea's not too bad, though as you'd expect it's hard to get a decently balanced multiplayer match going. The levels are too easy to vary and one team is likely to completely dominate the other.

I'll be looking forward to Disgaea 2 on the PSP, if that ever comes to pass. Meanwhile I'll probably poke at Afternoon of Darkness while sticking mainly to Final Fantasy Tactics.

Level 5000? My god, have I got some work to do. I picked it up on PSP after my severe disappointment with War of the Lions. Do I even need to have a bunch of characters, lol? Laharl and Etna are level 10 and are pretty much tanks now, I try to level some lowbies and they get annihilated. Anyway, this game rocks.

i can't say much about PSP, as i haven't tried that version yet.
however if it's just like ps2 version (minus a few extra updates and what-not)
then by the time you beat the game, if you dont go to the court to make the game harder, your main characters will only be about level 90 or so.
oh and btw, if your ever having trouble, throw your enemies into eachother (the higher level enemy being the dominant one that survives) it increases their level, and if you have a combined level in your home base higher than that of the enemy, you have a high chance of capturing that enemy. so make a high level enemy, capture it, and then own the rest of the game.
sadly i didnt even find out about this until i beat it several times :/

Unfortunately, you can't do that if you're going for good endings. People killed by a base panel battle will count as ally kills.

To build Empires you need someone to die so you can build some stone monument to keep people happy and to justify further conquests. Or just tell their families that they died protecting honor of their fatherland.

Masou
Dec 1, 2007, 03:47 PM
true but, if you have enough high levels in your base panel, or the combined level is high enough. you wont really have to worry about any of your allies dying anyways http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
(besides you can always save before the match and try again)
and lastly, idk about you guys but my first time through i got a bad ending, on my 2nd run through tho, i got the good ending. (then i proceeded to get the rest of the endings)
you get to keep your level so it's not like it's difficult http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

How could you be disappointed in FFT? Was it the slowdown? Didn't like the retranslation? The barely there add-ons?
I <3 that game.

It's just annoying trying to find the right number of Stronger Enemies bills to pass. I still want it to be challenging, you know.

ah yes, that's why i raise the difficulty level really really high (that's how i got to level 5,000. that and i've had the game since it came out)
oh and, even at level 5,000. even on the easiest difficulty, Baal is still a pain in the arse D:
have yet to kill him :/

lol i bring out the max number of characters.
all of them higher level than Baal.
(on hard mode i can't beat him yet >_< on medium i can almost beat him, on Easy i can very very close beat him. but i get owned D:)
combo attack him does decent damage. but most of them still do 0 dmg. this is after all their items are leveled up, etc. D:

The slowdown. To anyone who say's it's not bad: fuck you! Go play the original, I mean right now, compare it to the new version and then tell me that shit ain't terrible. On the other hand, I love the new translation, I might, might, suck it up and play it for that, but watching a skeleton cast lightnig and hearing the sound effect finish before it even leaves his hands is incredibly disappointing. How's this gonna run when I have summons flying around the screen and my calculators roffleowning everything?

lol!
i think i like this game.
honestly Disgaea 1, in my opinion was MUCH better.
i like some of the new shit in disgaea 2. however the story does not compare one bit at all.
disgaea 1 had an amazing story (my opinion) and was a fun strategic game to play (only strategic if you werent a godly level, or if your fighting baal)

Sorry, but the multiplayer makes up for all that.
The slowdown I've become acclimated to.

Yeah, it's slower than some old PS1 game, etc. etc. but there really is a lot of overreaction to just how destructive it is to the play experience.

(Because my strongest character is only 122! )

Cave of Ordeals 3 is a popular choice for breaking that 100s range, though if you're at 122 you probably already have it unlocked.

I do have Cave of Ordeals 3, but it has all of those Warp Geopanels and cockatrices. (This is Disgaea 2 I'm talking about. I know that in Disgaea 1, Cave of Ordeals 3 has a bunch of enemies grouped up and ready for AoE attacks.)

In Disgaea 2, you just use Cave of Ordeals 1. That one has enemies on geopanels, and you can get EXP +100% on those geopanels.

Mixfortune
Dec 2, 2007, 07:36 PM
Ah, Disgaea 2.
Was it really CoD1? Thought it was 2. But I think we're talking about the same one anyways, the one with the four groups of two archers standing diagonally next to each other, right?

I should continue on Disgaea 2 again sometime. I used to transmigrate loop my main magic user (priest with mage students) on the reverse damage map by nuking with heals. Those Dark Sun map things were pretty interesting too.

Tact
Dec 2, 2007, 08:45 PM
Yes, Mix, Cave of Ordeals 1 is the one with the archers. Cave of Ordeals 2 is split into two halves by Geopanels. One half is No Ranged Attack and the other is No Close Combat.

As for the Dark Sun...I only have 2 Dark Sun maps. Ever since I got Twilight Princess I have been vehemently against using strategy guides (I'll tell you about that later if you wish), but I may have to use them to learn the conditions for unlocking those maps.

What I really like about the Dark Sun maps is that, after you unlock them, it asks if you want to go there right away. When that message box comes up, I'm thinking "Oh, hell no, I want to go to the hospital first!" http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
