So lately I've been have an inexplicable urge to play point and click adventure games.
So recommend me some good'uns.
Sinue, I know you have a ginormous list.
I'd prefer if they were strictly point and click and
not command based. Like typing in "get ye flask" and what not.

The Chzo Mythos (http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm) series, by Yatzee. Play them in this order:

5 Days a Stranger
7 Days a Skeptic
Trilby's Notes
6 Days a Sacrifice

Why can't you get ye flask?

Anyway...Day of the Tentacle was always my favorite point and click adventure, followed closely by Sam & Max: Hit the Road. I haven't played the new Sam & Max games, but I'd love to.

I liked Shadowgate for the NES.

Maniac Mansion on the NES...I found this one pretty boring actually. Never got to finishing it.

Shadowgate, on the NES, probably my favorite, though probably for nostalgia reasons...well, that, and the great narration, mostly for the deaths. Hey, half the fun in a perilous adventure is dying and having the narrator make fun of yo for it!

Deja Vu on the NES seems to have been made byt he same guys as Shadowgate. I didn't find this one quite as enjoyable though. There's a sequel too.

Blazing Dragons on the PS1 is a humorous, light-hearted point-and-click adventure where death is impossible and there's a few skill-based minigames. I forget if this game was actually any good though.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld and Discworld 2: Mortality Bytes on the PS1...I don't remember the first one well enough and the second one I never played at all.

King's Quest V on the NES was a pretty solid adventure game, though I have to say I don't like dying for reasons that seem quite far beyond my control. (example: a scorpion appears and you are only allowed to just stand there and get stung. "Watch out for those critters, Graham!" Yeah, no shit dickhead. I WANTED TO RUN!) This is a long-ass series on the PC, and when I have the money to spare I might go get the collection. (V on the NES was all I played)

Phantasy Star Adventure for the Game Gear...I found a translated ROM somewere (I forget where) and used some SMS emulator, I forget which. It's a really lousy adventure, to be honest.

Zak and Wiki on the Wii...I've heard some really good things about this one and I hope to be able to rent it sometime.

The Journeyman Project trilogy (Turbo, Buried in Time, Legacy of Time) Good sci-fi adventure series in general. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Yeah I'd also like it if they were on PC or a system thats easy to emulate.
So I won't be playing no Zack &Wiki anytime soon. Otherwise keep the recommendations coming. Awaiting Sinue's post. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_clown.gif

No. No, no, no, no. If you're going to play King's Quest V, play the PC version - not the horridly craptacular, cancer inducing, and laugable NES version. Better yet, play King's Quest VI. Also, stay away from the Sega Master System version of King's Quest I. KQV NES and KQI SMS are novelty games at best.

You can download (legally) the King's Quest I & II remakes from AGD Interactive (http://www.agdinteractive.com/). Both with and without voice acting. Infamous Adventures (http://www.infamous-adventures.com/) has remakes of King's Quest III, Space Quest II, and a few original products like "Quest for Infamy", which is a black-humor spinoff of Quest for Glory.

As for my suggestion, play the Gabriel Knight series. Especially Sins of the fathers or The Beast Within. TBW is a FMV Adventure, but one of the best available - and with one of the best storylines in the business. Sins of the Fathers involves investigating a series of Voodoo Murders in New Orleans which are connected somehow to Gabriels own family. The Beast Within takes place in Germany and has you tracking down cases of Werewolf attack which are connected with the Mad King Ludwig II (who built most of Bavaria's most spectacular castles) and the lost Wagner opera. Blood of the Sacred play out a bit like DaVinci Code mixed with an Anne Rice vampire novel. It mixes Grail legend with Freemasonry, the Priory of Scion, and vampires who conspire to steal the blood of the baby of a Merovingian king against a backdrop of southern France.

Otherwise, there's an whole list of games I could recommend... Space Quest - any of them, Beneith a Steel Sky, Laura Bow Series, Willy Beamish, Legend of Kyrandia I - III, Les Manly, Leisure Suit Larry (especially 1 & 6), Quest for Glory (any of them, but II & IV especially), Any of the Monkey Island games - Grim Fendango, Manic Mansion/Day of the Tenticle, The Dig, etc.

Edit: Also, GameTap (if you subscribe) has the Sam & Max episodic Adventure games available for download which I hear are every bit as good as the LucasArts Sam & Max. I haven't tried them out myself though. There's a King's Quest IX fan-game (http://www.tsl-game.com/) that has been approved by Sierra for production (thanks to a successful petition campaign) which may end up being pretty good. You might also want to check out Freddy Pharkus Frontier Pharmasist (by Al Lowe) or Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman's Mine (http://www.himalayastudios.com/) by the same people who did the KQ I & II remakes. Callahan's Crosstime Saloon may be worth looking into as well. It may be a bit dated, but you might also like the Spellcasting 101 series - which is kind of like a cross between Harry Potter and Leisure Suit Larry.

If you have an Xbox, check out Still Life and it's prequel Post Mortem. Not the best adventure games, but decent. Stay away from Syberia & Syberia II.

Also, Jane Jenson is making a new adventure game called "Grey Matter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI7HfOhe5cs&feature=related)" which may be worth looking into. Also, Al Lowe (the guy behind Leisure Suit Larry 1-7) is going to be making a new game called Sam Suede: Undercover Exposure (http://www.ibaseentertainment.com/) - though I don't know how much of an Adventure game it will be.

Further, Trace Memory for the Nintendo DS wasn't a bad adventure title for what it was. Very simplistic puzzles and storyline - but it was never meant for the hardcore adventure game crowd - and it makes clever use of the DS's abilities, as well as it's shortcomings (such as screen glare) to help solve puzzles. For what it is, it's very good.

Monkey Island series, probably the only point-and-clickish series I ever enjoyed.

I really enjoyed Curse Of Monkey Island as well, haven't played fourth game though.

I second or third the nominations for the Monkey Island series, the Sam and Max series, the Leisure Suit Larry series, Shadowgate, and Day of the Tentacle, which is my personal favorite, although The Secret of Monkey Island is a close second. I'd also recommend the Space Quest series (starring Roger Wilco, a janitor), Full Throttle, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Loom, and 7th Guest. Pretty much any of the point and click adventures from LucasArts and Sierra in the '90s were lots of fun.

Simon the Sorcerer. The first one was pretty good. Second one I did'n't play much. After that they switch to 3D adventure games *sigh*
