View Full Version : Guide: Alex's Note To New Posters

As I cannot post this in ToH's thread (http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=93514&forum=1&14), I will post this as a new thread.

Somewhat inspired by ToH's Thread, and partly mad at the repetative posting of related questions, I decided to type up a few answers to things that I have seen frequently asked.

1.) No, you cannot play Ep. 1 and 2 online from the Wii. It is not compatable. You can, however, play offline on it.

2.) We really don't care if you think PSO is the best thing ever and/or that PSU is nothing compared to it. Threads like that serve no real purpose. And the only things they bring are flames, elitists, and overused dialogue.

3.) If you pipe on the Wii it WILL ruin your Wii, but it will take longer. What it does is it wears out the lens inside the Wii, just as it did on the Gamecube. A more effective way to find rare monsters is to do missions those monsters frequent. Then quit the mission before you finish it, should you not find the rare monster. Then redo the mission. However, do not be confused. NEITHER way will increase or decrease your chances of running into a rare monster. While piping is faster, it will ruin your console. And while the runs are safer, they are slower. So the choice is yours, but know what you are getting yourself into first.

4.) No, the official servers for Gamecube, Dreamcast, Xbox, and Blue Burst have been shut down. And no, Sega will NOT be bringing back the official PSOGC servers. If you are seeking to play PSO online, you will have to do so via unofficial servers.

5.) Parasitic Gene: Flow and Red Ring are NOT available on GC/Xbox. You will not find them unless they are hacked or if you go to someplace where their droprates have been changed (ie. private servers). End of story.

6.) Be patient. People will post to your threads. You do not need to post multiple times to keep your thread at the top so people will read it and reply. Give it time. The PSO community is smaller nowadays, but we are still here.

7.) Luck has no influence on your chances of finding a rare monster or Special Weapon. Luck increases your chance for a critical hit.

8.) No, Gallon's Shop, an online Episode 2 quest, is NOT on PSO+. Nor is it a downloadable quest. It was online-only, so the only way to play it is to be online.

9.) You do not lose anything between regular PSO and PSO+. You can freely swap disks with no loss of anything. PSO->PSO+ = no loss. PSO+->PSO = no loss except you can't access the Episode 2 quests until you switch back to the PSO+ disk: items and character remain the same, even items obtained from the episode 2 quests.

Well, I have finished my venting for now. I merely wanted to get some things out there that have been randomly scattered throughout various threads. If some of these were covered in ToH's thread, my apologies.

Considering only 5 or 6 topics even get posted in, per day, on this board, I really don't think you need to worry about it.

Its not like this is the kind of board where you get 10 pages of topics in an hour and half of the topics are variants on the same thing.

This is a quiet little board now. I'm sure the mods can handle what little activity it gets just fine.

That said, I think your points are just fine.

Forgive me for being a bit of a dunce, and not finding it in my Search of the forums, by why will this end up ruining a Wii? Related, but will playing the game normally also have such an adverse effect?

Now I'm halfway scared to play any Gamecube games on my Wii >_>

Don't be afraid to play your game cube games, they don't wreck your wii. The problem is the same for the gamecube, pipping for rare monsters require the machines to do a lot of loading which will wear out the drive. Normal game play won't do anything to your machines it's only those who spend hours piping back and forth from the ship to the planet that will ruin your console. That is what Alex was talking about.

Exactly. That is why I provided an alternative mean to finding rare monsters http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Ahh, okay, thank you! Just the way it was written as "...it will take longer" made me think playing them in general would ruin it, too. Either that or there's a faster way to ruin a Wii, aside from just hitting it with a sledgehammer. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Maybe that's why I keep getting errors on my Cube, though, playing Eternal Darkness and Metroid Prime and all for hours on end.

Parasitic Gene: Flow and Red Ring are available on JP BB, but the drop rate is very low.

With 5x drop rate and 2x rare enemy rate, players of JP BB found most rare items in one week, including all ID cards, six Red Rings and one Parasitic Gene.

Feb 17, 2008, 03:56 PM
Yeah, but BB is on its deathbed. Not much time left for it. *Shruggs* Whatever. Point is, options are slim and for the most part unsavory. I do know of a place you can get them 'legitimately', but that term is a stretch, as the place in question is not allowed to be spoken of here due to its illegality.

EDIT: Also, this thread is kinda old. If the mods have no problem with it, that is fine. But really, it is frowned upon most of the time to bump threads this old.

EDIT2: Wow! Stickied? I'm impressed!

This was answered earlier in the thread. Short story, it will wear out the lens, just as it did on the GC. However, it will take longer.

As this has been asked twice now, I have edited #4 to clarify what I meant by ruin the Wii.

There's just no way the Luck stat would give you a 100% chance at a critical hit.

I have edited #3 on my list, due to the recent rise in these types of threads and the form of mentality they bring.

AlexCraig
Jun 3, 2008, 12:56 PM
You are misinterpreting this wrong then. Not to mention you are new here, so I wouldn't expect you to fully understand what was meant by this. Allow me to explain.

Throughout the years PSO-World has been up, there have been countless people asking the same exact questions time and again. The mods and other posters recommend the Forum Search option, but none of these people seem to understand them and just keep asking the same questions. I, alone, have seen hundreds of threads asking about Red Ring and PG:F, about whether or not the servers will be back up, about Gallon's Shop being on PSO+, etc, etc. And most of us get pretty ticked off when we see people not utilizing the Forum Search to have their questions easily answered. We're also ticked off at the ammount of elitism flying around here, from both sides.
So I created this thread in the hopes of ALIEVIATING those questions. Answering them so that these people DON'T HAVE TO ASK. Isn't that a better solution than having to answer thousands of threads? Most people here seem to think so. And from what I and many have seen, this thread does seem to work, and people have been asking less and less of the questions mentioned on page 1. I didn't expect it to, but this thread was even stickied because it helped; because it works.

I know the posters have freedom of speech. I am not stopping them from making threads. Nor do I think I am better than everyone else. I am not that egotistical. Where you got that from is beyond me. And I do take it a bit personally when people automatically assume this of me. I am merely providing help for people so they don't have to ask. So please, understand where I am coming from with this.

AlexCraig
Jun 3, 2008, 01:05 PM
That's alright. Just so long as you try not to do that again ^^; I take it rather personally and will defend myself.
