It seems like a lot of the PSOW crew like metal. Out of sheer curiosity, what types (black, death, power, nu, etc.) do you like and which bands?

Personally, I'm on a Gothenburg and Death kick right now. Mostly old Arch Enemy and In Flames. Also God Dethroned and Opeth (more prog than death or Gothenburg).

Anything that doesn't have irritating high pitched vocals, singing about dragons, and kings being beheaded. Boring junk.

Isis and Wolves in the Throne Room are the only metal bands that I listen to. But, oh, what great bands they are. <3

I hate tagging metal with things like 'Power, Death' and such, because it seems to differ from one person to the next. I've lost count how many arguments I've seen over whether a band is power metal or something else http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Anyway, on the playlist currently:
Apocalyptica, Avenged Sevenfold, Children of Bodom, Cradle of Filth, Disturbed, DragonForce, Drist, Hammerfall, H.I.M., Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Lacuna Coil, Manowar, Megadeth, Metallica, Motley Crue, Nine Inch Nails, Pantera, Rammstein, Rob/White Zombie, Slayer, Stratovarius, Trivium, and a little In Flames.

Kinda all over the place really http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Mainly Maiden, Priest and DragonForce though.

Haven't listened to metal in a long time. Used to be into Megadeth (before they went radio), Slayer, Pantera, Anthrax, etc. Still listen to the odd butt-rock metal like Motley Crue, Poison, G&R, etc on ocassion. And of course, metal covers...

Fade to Bluegrass (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l6Y8PA_neY&feature=related) Metallica One
Hayseed to Hell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm4AeQS0KS0&feature=related) AC/DC Shook me all night long

Sometimes also referred to as "Symphonic Power Metal". Yes, the lyrics are throw-away and over the top, but I love this sound dearly for it's goofy sense of adventure. Uh, I was actually listening to some while I discovered this topic.

personal favorites:

Sonata Arctica
Dragonland
Fairyland
DarkMoor
DragonForce
PowerQuest
Hibria
Avantasia

I actually admit I do like the sound of "Squire Rock" quite a bit, but the vocals and lyrics usually just make me laugh.

I'm not really a rock person though, I'm more of a Bossa Nova/Jazz guy...

power, death, black, I don't really care, so long as it's not something like Rage Against the Machine. Instrumental is fine, but I hate the vocals.

I can't stand any Metal where the singer singing sounds like gurgling screaming or screeching pteradactyl...

I do enjoy Disturbed, Rammstein, Rob/White Zombie, Genitorturers, old school Metallica,
and Nine Inch Nails, and maybe not exactly "Metal" but I a huge fan of Tool.
