but ya, honestly I feel the SPC game (which was released only in Japan), is better than the Mega Man games. In many cases this game is more simple, but in other areas, it's even more advanced than Mega Man.

ya progress from stage to stage is totally linear (11 stages), but within each stage, there may be alternate routes and even secret spots.

One thing I really love about this that makes it inviting for everyone, is that the level designs are BALANCED and FAIR! This game isn't hard like Mega Man games, but it isn't exactly a cakewalk either (especially later on).

anyway the great thing is that all 3 Pizza Cats are playable (Speedy, Guido and Polly) and have their own upgradeable specials (3 each)

the unique system is that instead of abilities/weapons you obtain from bosses, you always start with the 4 Rescue Team members (and even they have their own special attacks and Helper Abilities).

meaning there are 7 playable characters total. you choose 1 of the 3 Pizza Cats at the start of each level, and you can always switch to any of the 4 Helpers. so you basically have 5 playable Cats in a level.

each Helper has a unique ability (that drains Helper meter, replenishes with a power-up or switching back to Pizza Cat):

*General Catton can break solid rocks by pressing against it and punching it with their normal attack.

*Bat Cat can fly by holding the jump button.

*Spritz can swim the fastest

*Meowzma can dig through soft soil (horizontal and vertical)

with this much variety, the fun and replay value is multiplied in many ways! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

and what's a great platformer without power-ups!
you can pick up Hearts to restore health, Cat's Paw to restore all hearts, Bell restores all Helper Energy, Upgrade Box (upgrades Special to next special) and Ninpo Scroll restores the Ninpo meter (which is used to perform special attacks. the more you upgrade a special, the more Ninpo it costs)

yes there are ladders you can climb, and stuff like that reminds you of Mega Man a little. enemies can respawn if you scroll a little then backtrack (kinda like Ninja Gaiden). there are plenty of reasons to jump and there are many cases where your Helper Characters will be required.

the enemies themselves come in a wide variety of types. some are simple but the advanced ones can be quite dangerous.

the bosses range from very easy to hard enough that you should learn their patterns so you can avoid being hit and wear them out when you have a chance.

as for movement, you have normal movement, as well as jumping (it feels just right. the gravity isnt heavy like Megaman but it isn't floaty either.), you can attack on the ground and air, use your special attack (ground and air), call Helper (the menu is similiar to changing Megaman's weapons), and even dash (can help make longer jumps too)!

overall it's a friendly, fun and flexible game, it gets a little tough in the last levels but fair enough to win if you play carefully. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I beat MegaMan 1-8 and some of the MegaMan X games, but ya IMO I feel those games are too rough to have much fun with them, I must of been insane to keep trying lol.
but ya, Samurai Pizza Cats NES is a great game that throws away steep challenges (that lead to frustration), and concentrate on delivering a more enjoyable experience without dumbing things down to the point of mediocrity. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

and for the challenge seekers, I'm sure the last 3 bosses will give them a good work out. (although not Sigma crazy. lol) http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gifoh ya there are youtube videos out there of the gameplay but it's a huge difference playing it yourself.

Any videogame based off of another form of media automatically fails.

Besides, Zero is hard core awesome, people.

Zero has Cyber Elves, twice as cute and anywhere from -1 to 5 times as helpful.

All this means little to me without more Pizza Cat titles, unfortunately...
