Ok, here's the thing.
The PC I'm currently using now is dying. The HD is screwed beyond all hope. That's the ONLY thing wrong with it.
I ordered a new Dell XPS 420 last week with these specs-
3 gig core 2 duo E6850 1333 FSB
4 gigs ram @800
8800 GT 512

Simplified specs, I know.
My current is an older Dell 4600C with a 3 gig P4, 1 gig of ram and an AGP 512 X-1650 pro. All those are in perfect working order.

Now, my question to you is this-
My parents have an older Dell 2400 series, similar to mine but lower specs. FAR slower processor and such. Could I take their already formatted HD with their copy of windows XP on it and install it on the PC that has the dying HD? Sort of a way to salvag the current one and give my parents a slihtly better one just for web surfing and such.

Absolutely, you may need to install drivers since the hardware components may be slightly different but other than that, you're good to go. Dell is great about posting their drivers on the site, so that's a huge plus.

Forgot to mention, are you sure your hd is going bad? You may want to try running some diagnostics on it. If tests come back clean, you may want to just reformat it and use it for storage.

Oh, trust me, I know it's going bad. Recent reformat was giving me trouble in reinstalling my windows. I'm getting critical errors. I'm having issues and them some.

The same thing happened to the HD on my brothers Macbook he had for only 1 year.

If you want to run some nice games, save yourself worries and buy two vidoe cards insdtead of that insane one. Cheaper
