Synthesis Question

I have to ask, if I fail a Synth, do I just lose the mats or do I lose the board as well? I ask this because I just got a Gudda Skela Board, and I would like to make it... but I'm not sure if I'd be risking the board by trying it with only 62% Success Chance.

If the synth fails, you lose mats AND board.
