How to: Obtain decent items from common monsters?

Anybody help me out here? I can't seem to kill enough Hidelts to make them give me a god/battle ><. Why is it listed if it's impossible to get? =/. I hear persistence pays off... I just keep killing them until I get it? If so, is there a quest with a ton of them in it?

Claiming a Stake
Magnitude of Metal
Native Research
