Ok, there was an old topic (http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=137841&forum=23&12) talking about that, but it started with confusing information http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Release date: March 27 2008

Games included: All 4 original games plus all 8 text adventures from the Megadrive network service (no Game Gear games...)

http://sega.jp/ps2/ages32/screen_1.jpg http://sega.jp/ps2/ages32/screen_2.jpg http://sega.jp/ps2/ages32/screen_4.jpg http://sega.jp/ps2/ages32/screen_3.jpg http://sega.jp/ps2/ages32/screen_5.jpg http://sega.jp/ps2/ages32/screen_6.jpg

As you can see in the images, the game features a speed and difficulty selection, and if it is like previous sega ages it will be in progressive scan (420p) and I hope it also has an image gallery http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

WTF Phantasy Star has difficulty settings now?!

Doesn't surprise me, considering I've talked to a lot of people who wanted to play the original games - but found them far too difficult and unapproachable.

And it's not really complete. While I'm delighted to see them add the 8 text adventures, they really should have added in the Game Gear games. Perhaps bundle the whole thing together with an offline-multiplayer Blue Burst.

In any case, I don't see it coming to the states... but a translation and release on XBL Arcade would be sweet.

The original are fine as they are!
Actually if anything, they should make them more difficult...
That does it though, I really AM getting a PS2.

I can't guarantee it but provably it also has a hard or very hard difficulty

I particularly like the difficulty selection feature. I am somewhat hesitant because, well, it has the Sega Ages name on it. And Sega Ages is not synonymous with quality.

But we shall see.

I actually really liked the Fantasy Zone Sega Ages remake. Monoco GP wasn't bad for what it was either. Not to mention Alien Syndrome which turned out rather well for a very low budget game. Better than most of what you'd find on Xbox Live Arcade, IMO. Phantasy Star: Generation I turned out rather nicely as well - though it's a shame I can't read hiroglyphics (which is what it might as well be written in). PS:G2 was better than PS:G1, although I'm a little ticked they added a loophole in which to bring Nei back. It completely destroys the significance of her character.

But yes, on the whole - even the best of the remakes was a rather poor effort overall, and some of the remakes were either unnecessary (Virtua Racing), insubstantial (Space Harrier), or just down right horrible (Outrun & Golden Axe). You should know, though, that the PS:CC isn't a remake. It's just a collection. And the company doing the Sega Ages series has been shitcanned and development was brought inhouse. Not that that's any guantee of quality - but how badly can they fuck up an emulated ROM?

Never ask how badly they can fuck up an emulated ROM. They'll take that as a challenge.

I don't really understand the trend of bitching that reviving Nei in PSG2 ruins her character, considering all the prerequisites for it - Including that of *needing to finish the game first*. The first time around, you have no choice, she dies, just like she always has. Reviving her is a little bonus for people who already finished it once and want to bring her back afterwards. It doesn't even affect the plot. If you've managed to revive Nei, you've already gone through once without her, how the hell does her being able to be alive the second time ruin the first one?

I was kinda happy to know you could revive Nei in PSG2. That was one of the better aspects of the remake.

Well, I hope the in-house team proceeds with the originally planned PS4 remake and makes it proper.

As for Nei, her entire character centers around sacrifice. Even her techniques are those which sacrifice her life for the restoration of party stats. Having her reviveable negates that. You're right in that it's not a big issue since it's such a collosal pain in the ass to actually get her revived, but it still bugs me.

As for PSIV, I wouldn't hold my breath for a remake. If they actually were going to do they, they'd have already started progress or we'd have at least heard something about it. As far as I know, it's not on any upcomming Sega Ages release schedule. I think we can safely count on it being offically shitcanned.

8 episodes? lol

The games are short enough you could practically call them 1 game collectively, but there are 8 text adventure games of the same series. Nei's Adventure is only one title in the series, and there's one game per PSII Character. There should also be Amia's Adventure, Huey's Adventure, Kainz's Adventure, Shillka's Adventure, Rudger's Adventure, Anne's Adventure, and Eusis's Adventure.

Does this come with color maps for each game? Does the manual have nice artwork for each game? Anime-style artwork or concept art of any-kinda?

"Phantasy Star Gaiden and Phantasy Star Adventure are unlocked by holding right at the title screen when pressing Start. They will appear on the bottom of the games list."

Well, there you have it. :P

It cost a pretty penny, but I am quite satisfied with this purchase, though not as much as the Generations series. For someone who has played these games numerous times (and likely shouldn't be playing them any longer), I like having the difficulty and speed options to breeze through some of the overworld portions, etc. It makes it way easier to put down / pick up between other games.
