• I choose which request I wanna do in which order. I don't care who is first. I just choose the request that I feel like doing.
• You can choose what style you want:
- Light colored, cellshaded (kindoff like the nerdlove picture).
- Heavy, detailed CGed, colorful with outlines fat/thin(like the Fony pic/Alex).
- Dark and creepy (like the creepy fairy tales ones).
- Any other style you can come up with. Just remember that the three listed above are already somewhat developed to a decent level.

Everyone.

Welcome to my gallery with all kinds of random drawings, but also PSO/PSU stuff every once in a while.

How does it work?
• The first part of the thread contains my latest drawing, a bit larger and visible description. I’ll also post WIP versions in this part.
• The second part contains all of the drawings I’ve made since I started this thread (somewhere around february/march). When you click on the thumbnail, you’ll get to see a bigger version of the drawing. Underneath you can find the following buttons/links:
Big: This is a larger version of the drawing, usually capped at 2000 pixels in the height.
FullRes: This is the full resolution version of the drawing, they are quite big (between 8000 and 13000 pixels in the height.
.PSD: This is the original .psd file, that you can steal, adjust or use for learning. Note: I will try to add the .psd files bit by bit, so don’t cry about the death links http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
In the spoiler box you can find the original description for the drawing.
Keep in mind that the oldest drawing are @ the bottom and the newest ones @ the top!

Since my old coloring style is starting to bore me, I am trying to find new ways of coloring (also look at the mushroom one). This one was real quick (both the sketch and the BG) it all took les then 5 hours I guess
oh by the way, this is Claudia, Rust's beast with maxed breast size.. HOORAY! the BG is what I remembered of what Neudaiz looked like :wacko: I didn't have any reference for it.. so it's probably totally random :D

Yay! something.. em with NO BLOOD!!! O_O
what's it? it's the most complete meaningless and random drawing! I just started to sketch the background.. and started to fill it up with the most random layers.. after that I added the elf.. which was the most random and quick sketch I've made that actually looks kindoff okay.

The only minor problem I see is the black lines around the elf, making her look kindof harsh. I couldnt 'really fix that, cause I was working on half the resolution I usually do.

I really started to get a bit bored and tired while making KodiaX commission.. that is why I used a completly new way of coloring.. and it was fun :wacko:.. soo results:

Video "tutorial" of CGing Erzbeth
Yay.. actually.. it's NOT A TUTORIAL, more a "HOW TO" since I've explained tons of times how to do the shading on these boards http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

The quality of the shading in the video is notably worse than the original.. cause I did it in 2 hours, insted of the 6 hours I spend on the original shading, thus it's not as pretty and has lotsa mistakes.. but hey.. it should give you an idea how I work.

The video is on 500% speed which makes it 23minutes long.. I uploaded a small version which is 160MB and a bigger version thats .. uhh dunno.. BIG!

If you live in europe I recomment to directly download the file and NOT stream it.. since the stream only goes fast if you're in the US..

Here's some piece of information about this commission, folks ! (Spoiler-free for Kelvie.)
So, i present you Erzbeth, one of the many NPCs i've put into my paper D&D campaign setting. Erzbeth is only a minor NPC in that campaign, thus she'll make her first and last appearance in Chapter 10A of the campaign (PCs -Player Characters- are currently in the process of clearing up the Chapter 9 ; many chapters are separated in parts A and B because of the nine players being often split in two groups of four and five people for matters of playability).
Erzbeth is a 10-years old vampire, though she is way more grown-up than what she seems to be. Erzbeth has been turned into a vampire by her mother, who wanted to keep her little girl with her even after she became a child of the night. Still having a fragile and innocent mind when she got turned into an undead, Erzbeth became overwhelmed by hunger, hatred and sadistic behaviour way faster than an new-born adult wampire would have been - thus, she killed her mother only a few days after she embraced her new condition.
Now, it's been decades since Erzbeth is a vampire, and her hatred for anything living became even stronger as the years passed, being prisoner of a child body for eternity being her biggest grievance. Erzbeth grew mature very quick and learned how to keep with her condition without being worried. Eurikayne's unique architecture allowed her to move easily from places to places in the city without having to deal with the daylight - and though she's hating it, she takes a very good care of her appearance (kind of made up that if she can't do anything about what she hates so much, she might better take advantage of it). Erzbeth then regularly file her fangs so they always look like standard human canines, and she drag her preys down to her crypt with a fake childish and innocent behaviour matching her appearance, making them unable to anticipate when she finally decides to have her meal. Yeah, because this is another particularity Erzbeth got among the vampire population : rather than merely drinking blood to feed herself, Erzbeth loves killing people, sometimes hunting them for hours 'till they are pushed to exhaustion before killing them, but above all, she appreciates devouring entirely her victims, especially if they are still alive, screams of agony sounding so sweet to her ears. This is a fact : the younger and more innocent the vampire was before his transformation, the more corrupted and twisted his mind is when acquiring his new status.

Yesterday I was shocked at how much I actually suck at drawing T_T I really suck at anything that has action/interesting pose or perspective.. my drawings all look boring and uninteresting.. the only thing that saves my ass is my CGing knowledge (not really much skill related). Thats why I tried to do a kind-of simple sketch of my PSO character.. I think I will first start a bit simple, later I will try the harder stuff. I dunno about coloring this one.. I think it's not really worth the effort to color this.

Now, I'm running on the assumption here, that she is meant to be proportioned like a normal-ish human being, in which case, either her body is too long, or her arms are too short. Stand up straight, let your arms dangle straight down, and touch the sides of your legs. That should give you an idea of how long arms are meant to be.

Personally, I believe that the arms are long enough, but the body is too long, right around the midriff. There's a concave segment right underneath her shirt that could just be swatted right on out. Here's a really sloppy demonstration of what I mean--

I'm sorry. I am really sorry i have to say this, but i really am not a fan of this uber color shading you have going here.

I mean it works slightly for some of your concepts and ideas, but with the one im looking at, a princess with a crown on a swing, there is like no need for such a harsh shadow. It makes it hard to look at. She is lifeless here.
Look at the pencil sketch of that girl with the bunny type hat. With how the shade work is done there, its simple, not all shadows are so harshly applied like your CG ones.

Try that way for a CG It'll be an interesting consideration for you.

First, I must say that i sat at my office desk for about 5 minutes trying to pronounce your user name, and I had lotsa fun saying it aloud but then one of my co-workers showed up to work and I needed to stop that... qoxolg... qoxolg.

But back to commenting!! I'm luving your stuff, even if the shading is dark & heavy its a unique style and it works well for a lot of your work. I personally couldn't color with shading and multiple colors to save my life (I'am not a colorizor!), so I do have a respect for any artist that does it and can do it without butchering there work.

Lips.. yeah.. those are hard to draw.. problem is: I am ripping the most recognisable image of the fairytale girls, which are mostly the Disney designs. Problem is they all wear lipstick, which makes the upper part of the lip more visible. This gives the illusion that the lips are sticking out to much.. On the little mermaid pic, I did it on purpose, since she had to look like a b*tch with big breast, a golden bath, a cigarette and silicon filled lips..

It works for these girls because of the abscence of heavy shade work (which you're a big fan of extreme shading.) With the shading you do they pop out like i stung them with a hornet.

Welcome in the wonderfull world of the selection wand in Photoshop.. the blacklines between the hair and the skin, is because they overlap while shading, which gives the result that a 2px line is shaded double, resulting in invinite blackness.. still dunno how to fix that.. its been a probleem on all my pictures http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Sorry, i'm not very fan of this last one. Not really because of the issues people above did point out, it's just about the overall thing. She doesn't look as creepy as the other ones, i guess... Well, probably because all those bunny slaughterings were kind of integrated in the background and all, while the hairpin thingy on this one seems a bit out of place (especially the pierced bunny head on the edge), like if you had to put something with blood and a bunny head, but you couldn't find out where.

Yeah.. well I couldn't really come up with something interessting for Rapunzel.. it's a kindoff boring and passive character, just waiting in a tower.. and without the killing and blood it wouldn't match with the rest of the picture..

My only goal when drawing is to make something that I find pretty, colorfull and nice to look at. This time I intended to give it the more fake/plastic.. because I dunno.. I wanted to give the hair a more unnatural/plastic look.
There is a way to make hair look like hair: 1) speedpainting, which is problem for me.. since I am not skilled enough for that. 2) I could have tried a detailed shading, but with the amount of hair rapunzel got.. it would have taken an additional 3/4 hours of work, and it still might have looked like crap.

hair looks really glowly and kind of other-worldly now. nice effect I think, also gets rid of that thick black line that makes it looked like a cut and cropped photo. Though the hair still looks like a flat image, but I guess that's what you were going for *shrug*

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the story "The Match Stick Girl," but it's by the same guy who wrote the original little mermaid. It's about a little girl who lives with an abusive father, and is forced to sell matchsticks to people in the winter. If she doesn't sell any, she will most likely be beaten by her father. No one is buying, so she finally goes to an ally to try and wait out the night. She begins to light each matchstick, thinking of happy moments, and her dead grandmother, until finally she burns them all, dies in the alley way, and her dead grandmother comes to pick up her spirit. Disney actually made this for a Fantasia segment, but then decided not to include it, but added it on the platinum edition of the little mermaid. Also, to honor the original author for not keeping The Little Mermaid true, this one stays true, except they never show the abusive father. The girl still dies. So then, why not have the ghost show up and burn down the town, her father, both, or maybe just kill everyone before she dies, or whatever. Up to you. Thats not even a bad idea.. for some pics though.. I just need to get my backgrounds to the same level as my figures.. it's probably a matter of finding a style that feels natural to me. I think I found a pretty unique style for lining and CGing characters, thats finally starting to feel natural for me to draw.
I was also thinking about trying the opposite of how I usually draw, by starting with the background and adding the character after that.. since the backgrounds sets the mood and also perspective of the picture, it should be easier to draw the character in the right perspective with the right lighting and mood.. hmm.. might be a good thing to try..

Thats exactly the original idea I had for the pic! but when I draw I always change stuff, somtimes for the good, sometimes for the bad.. and in this case I was to lazy. CGing a full character takes around 6/7 hours, while the skeleton is pretty simple.

I think the total CGing only took 4 hours.. the lines are cheaply generated by illustrator and the coloring is just basic.

I also would like to add that I don't use any example pics for drawing this. I've done that in the past, and the only thing you learn from that is how to copy another pic. I just wanna learn it by myself, so any critque is very wanted for any of my sketches. (you can also critque my CGing, but I am affraid it's most of the time a matter of taste).

Perspective is better now, just too bad you went for a more static pose about the legs. Still the issue with the gun, though.
I bet you're not using any example pic, and that's indeed better. I used to do that to, i am very good at copying (a.k.a W00tForgery), but still what i was trying to draw by myself was turning into crap because of lack of proportions and perspective practice. Now i'm using something alike : i'm trying to imagine the finished picture in my head, and i copy it but i'm still not good.

I'm very glad I found this thread. I <3 the twisted fairytale theme. Total awesomeness. In fact, a few days ago I did a little drawing of suicidal teenage Alice (http://s3.amazonaws.com/graffiti/268a0066f45040c0b44ace1ba82723dc_580x270.png), from the old PC game named after her. Your imagination is great for this type of stuff, and I especially dig the boy nerd thinking of a realistic human heart in the nerdlove picture, haha. Awesome.

As for critique, there's one thing I've noticed over and over again: and that's that I think I like your line sketches a lot better than the CGI renderings. Something endearing about the drawing is completely lost in transition, and I think it has to do with the foreground/background relationship. It looks like there were two layers that were treated very differently from one another, and often times the figure or foreground layer looks like it was slapped with an emboss filter. I would not recommend that--it makes it look kind of thrown together, or at least out of place. Have you tried drawing the background first and then the figures over it, on the same layer? Even if you have to start small and work your way up to a complex image, it's good practice and it helps ground the subject when it appears to be part of the same world as the background.

Anyway, keep posting. 'Tis good stuff.

anyway, yeah.. I got a little problem with backgrounds honestly.. I just totaly hate doing them.. and like you said, my plan is to do the background first from now on.

I don't think a very complex BG is needed every time, just look COC's Alice BG, it fits very well with the overall feeling of this art (which is, btw, awesome) while totally abstract thing. Even a blank BG with only the shadows of the character works.

Worst idea ever. My CG "art" is terrible, as i only have a mouse, and i kept only a few of the original paper ones (none of those copied), most of 'em being random sketches i made while bored during class when i was in high school. For some reason I always feel cheap when I do a simple background. I love details and pwetty colors.. it's just my skills that aren't there yet. Up till now the only background that actually merges with the character is the one of the little mermaid.

Wow, actually this is one of my most prefered coloring works so far. Probably because of the cartoon style you mentioned. Well i'm mostly talking about those you made with an actual lineart, like PSO art and so on ; the creepy ones and those which are alike are too different to be compared to this one.

I'm still searching for a coloring style that fits my lined drawings a bit better. My other CGing style is a more dark/realistic style and it doesn't really match well with black lines. For the dark CG style I use alot of "Linear Burn" layers, which results in more flat colors and a high contrast ratio.

For this one I only used a single Linear Burn layer, which I used for the cellshading. After that I used around 7 layers of all kinds of reddish/purple-ish colors to give it the sweet colorfull look.

if you use photoshop, you can paint things ontop of one another without hurting the bottom image (Layer)

you then can set it to a special attribute Linear Burn which changes the stuff you just painted.

Ah ok, i get it much better now. You using much more layers than i ever did, haha. Used to have one for lineart, one for BG, one for colors and sometimes another one for some shadows, but rarely more than that.
Actually, might try out this linear burn thing, that's probably what was missing when i was trying to color things on Photoshop ; i used to draw on things called oekakis (mostly with PaintBBS, then ShiPainter) and i was using the +/- density tool on them, but on PS, this tool is way too... hum... well, aggressive, i'd say. Dunno how to explain it, but i couldn't manage to get any smooth shading effect with that on PS while it was working on ShiPainter. And never found anything useful on PS to fix that (in the basic tools, i mean).

I'd be interested in seeing it, even though I don't use the program. You and probably other users of PS might say that's easy, but I don't see how you can hold the end product of all the layers combined in your mind (even if you see the new effect as you create each layer.) Then again, I've never been a very artsy person and I've only taken basic art classes.

Hahaha, i swear you could raise an army if your layers were soldiers. I'm quite amazed how you can manage to see where to add some more shadings and all, i barely see any changes on some of the "stages" of your picture when i look at the shadows you put into it, but yet there is one big difference when i compare this "stage" to the previous one. So if i got it well, Linear Burn is for shadows and Color Dodge is more for brightening some parts than darkening them ?

Also remember these pics are really small, the original is 5656x8000. I sometimes add the most tiny details which are not completly visible on these >_> trust me.. every single layer is needed.. they just add to the whole picture.

Just some tips:
• Try to use soft and VERY VERY VERY low opacity brushes! mine are usualy 1~5% for burn/doge and 10~30% for colorfull layers.
• Don't try to do some complete shading in one layer! when you know you will shaded on top of something you already shaded, create a new layer. That way you won't destroy the shading you already did.
• Don't try to understand my layers, just do it! Just color until you like it! and add up layers, layers, and even more layers! and be creative.. as soon as you understand the effects of certain layers, you will be able to come up with new tricks.

Thanks for the tips. Oh yeah, i always use low opacity anyways, and even low flow... flux... dunno, the thing along with opacity, used to set how long you have to focus on an area in order to have the full colored thing you would have if it was merely set to 100 %.
As for the multiple layers, i am a bit of a ctrl+alt+Z whore, so i wasn't afraid of fucking up my shadings, i was just canceling the mistakes. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I always start drawing without using any help lines/shapes.. which made me end up n 18000x16000 which is quite a record for me.. it did result in the fines and most detailed lineart I've ever done. When I go CGing, I'll downsize it to a max of 8000px in the width, or else I have to use brushes that are bigger than 700px which will kill my computer. I am actually thinking up a bit of a story behind D-Cell Alex.

The jist of it is that Alex, after fighting all these D-Cell beasts (Dark Falz, Olga Flow, Shambertin, and all their chronies), started to face the same problem Flowen had and started to D-Cellularize. He turned to his friend, Jean-Carlo Montague for help. Montague almost went the way of Dr. Osto (about to go more for science than for his friends), but Alex swayed his mind. When Montague just about had the antidote ready to save Alex, Alex freaked out and about half his body became D-Cell. Montague told AR-7, Satsuki, Bob, and Kade (several of my other PSO characters) to fight Alex and stall him until the cure was ready. The fight was long, and the whole time, amidst powerful photon beams and blinding attacks from claw and Yamato, Alex was calling out in a deep; D-Cell tone "help me" "save me". In the end, Montague used a Rifle of sorts to launch a dart of the antidote into Alex's D-Cell arm, curing Alex and returning all to normalcy.

About the color of the hairs, I am still undecided. I wanted to run some test via PSU, but since I can't log-on, it is not an option anymore. Just pick the color you find best, you are the artist, after all.

I'll try to enlarge the hair a bit then.. about the color.. I dunno.. the pict will already have lots of blue/grey.. so I would go for something more red or blonde.
