Do private servers have all systems play together or are they separated by console?

To the mods, if this topic is too questionable, then I do apologize, lock on sighting, I just want to know if it is possible.

On the server I play on, the lobbies are all interconnected. GC can chat with DC and BB. However, they can only play with people on the same console (BB w/ BB, GC w/GC, etc).

Sorry to the mods
The one I play on has the BB section (which only BB players can play on)
and the GCDCPC section where only GCDCPC players can play
You can all talk in the lobby though

Pretty much what's already been said. You can see everyone in the lobbies but when you try to join a game you only see games specific to your version. Bluebursters can see that non-bluebursters have little team icons too. Like GCN players have a GCN symbol next to their name.
