Just seeing if anyone else happens to share this hobby of mine (though addiction might be a better term for me).

Currently my setup is through my PC, which is obviously the easiest and most practical method for any college kid to maintain a music collection (you know how large those dorm rooms are *rolls eyes*).

My line consists of an E-MU 0404 USB DAC (digital to analog converter) -> RCA interconnects (Heartland Cables) -> C&C v2 Headphone Amp -> either my AKG K81DJ's or new Grado SR225's.

Anyone understand my audio jibberish?

Guess that answered my questions http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

Yes, most would probably say I've went overboard (my family reminds me everyday). Many people are content with standard iBuds afterall.

I'm guess the quality of sound matters a lot to you. I wanted to something like that but something keeps holding me back, you know...like a BUDGET. :/

having no hearing in my right ear DOES NOT HELP. Though if you know of any set up headhones that can trick my one ear into thinking it's listening to suround sound or stereo, spit it out! 'Cause hearing in mono sucks.

That's some serious equipment... reminds me of my friend's DJ setup.. I just blast my music out of my stereo or laptop (tin tin tinny) without regard to anyone who has to listen to my offbeat collection of tunes (which range from girliepop j14 stuff to hardcore gothic darkwave to jpop high-pitchy idols to hardcore screamo to save-the-king metal... and so on)

honestly I like playing music loud, I want to feel the bass, and hear every minor chord. I hate having to wear earbuds or keep the volume low. But headphones really are the way to go in a small space with roomates who dont share your awkward or wide ranging tastes in music lol.

Thats a very nice setup though man. Kudos!

I got me a set of these last year: ATH-EM700 SV. Only because I got that one Persona 3: Fes package that had it. They're supposedly really good, but I can't really tell.

I know this is about headphones, but your keyboard looks rather trendy. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

I prefer my iPod headphones myself, if I want sound quality, well I have Bose Surround Sound.

Sadly, my bose is hooked up to the "family room" TV, and inconveniently placed so I can't hook up my systems to it. Dad apparently learned his lesson after I started Metroid Prime on surround sound and almost killed my mom's china. >_>

I just got a Logitech headset. Wrap around style. I like it. (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/headsets_microphones/devices/321&cl=us,en)

I have a strange set of headphones for mobile use. They were part of an LG phone earpiece for their Muziq phone, so the earphones are a seperate piece from the mic. My sister (who bought the phone) gave me the headphones since she had a set that she felt comfortable with. The cord from where the speakers break to the plug is about 7 inches long so I can't carry it in my sweater pocket, but It clips on perfectly on my Messenger Bag's strap. Also the right speaker is one of those that has to go behind your neck since the wire is maybe about 3 inches longer that the left wire. But for my Computer/TV I have a nice inexpensive surround sound system that gives decent sound.

I keep waffling on my sound setup. I really would like a better quality speaker system for my computer but I'm just not interested in spending money on that when I have other things to spend money on. What I have right now is a rather basic 5.1 set that's roughly five years old. Altec Lansing 251 if you want specifics. They sound pretty good but unfortunately they do have a hiss when volume goes up more than half-way which is pretty lackluster.

For headphones I'm not exactly doing great either. I have a set of JVC HA-NC100 headphones. I can't stand over-ear sets or in-ear sets as both give me really bad headaches. My only option is to have well cushioned around-ear headphones which are not very portable but give excellent environment cancelling.

One day I'll get some truly good speakers and headphones, and ideally an amp but that day is still a while off yet. Until then I'm probably stuck with sub-$100 headphones and likely these speakers until they die. Of course, I'd need to move away from air cooling my computer to do that, or at least go with an aftermarket graphics cooler. Otherwise I'd get that environmental noise that would likely negate any real improvement I got from an upgraded sound system.

I have the cheap, but easily broken Sony MDR-V150. Not noise-canceling at all. Har Har Eavesdropping ahoy!
