But then it wouldn't be a Saner topic. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

*pouts* I resent Ikaruga! You should have seen how far that Gamecube disc could fly and land into a sewer drain. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Well, the characters are cute enough I suppose....but these type of games have been around for years, and nearly done to death (cute girls in powered armour shooters....and TV shows, and comics, and cheezy porn). There have been, what.... a bazillion freeware versions over the last decade, alone?

I liked the art when I first saw it months ago (model kits, if I recall correctly), but it didn't motivate me to try out the game. I figured it would be cookie-cutter for this genre.
Don't get me wrong - I can dig hot chicks in mecahnized sci-fi get up...RAcaseals kick ass (thank Bubble Gum crisis for that), but prefer the hot-tramp, nightclub-singer persona, or the ruthless-killer all business look, over the cute school-girl w/ hidden power bullshit....guess I have standards afterall, heh..http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Didn't realize it is on Live now - I might give it a go (if I ever see the damned xbox again).

Can you play full-screen horizontally in the full version?

After I played the trial, the game said the full version will allow me to "play in vertical mode, just like the arcade version." The sad part was, I was already playing in vertical mode. So is this a typo, or do those fobs at MS/Warashi not know what the hell they're talking about?

Aaaaaah! I must get more MS points somehow! xeku, you can't compare these characters and artstyle with Touhou or whatever vertical shooter-like themes! They are different enough! And I haven't seen really cool character designs and exciting retro music like this since the Shockman game for the Turbografx-16 (IMO beats megaman games in many ways).

but anyway I'm sure there is a horizontal and vertical options, I think have them backwards just like splitscreen mode descriptions. so even if it says horizontal, that means it's right side up how it original is, as in vertical mode. and vertical mode means horizontal. or something like that. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

we'll if I could get MS points eventually, I'll let you know or somebody will, but I'm sure they wouldn't feature an option to switch it if it doesn't work as intended. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

aaaaaaaah I can't get Faintear in the demo to appear yet! not high enough score (ya gotta avoid getting hit), Ya I should use the anchor more often. oh ya and notice if you hold the shoot button, any golden items won't magnetically be drawn into you until you let go of the shoot button. if you wait too long, any golden pieces that go offscreen are gone.
so be alert! mew mew mew! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

KAWA---...*ahem*

So is the ability to chuck enemies into one another enough to separate this from all those cookie-cutter vertical shooters out there?

Saner
Mar 1, 2008, 04:19 PM
lol yup plus the anchor lets you use the captured enemy as a shield! also the shot elements
determine how larger the golden bonuses are worth, and letting go of shot auto-magnetizes
the score items so you don't have to manually touch them yourself. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

also you performance can determine the true ending depending if you trigger Faintear's
appearance in Stage 1 and Stage 3! nad it's really tough cause you basically have to
almost beat the game with a good score and almost not get hit/use any continues. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

You can play with the display rotated to the left or right, which is nice. Maybe if I happen to get my hands on one of those monitors with the vertical swivel that does support 1920x1080 as a resolution, I'll be playing it like that (as I will Ikaruga).

Interestingly enough, the game was previously released on the Dreamcast almost exactly one year prior to the Xbox Live Arcade release.

Though I don't necessarily agree with the Radiant Silvergun > Ikaruga sentiment, I'm not saying the inverse is true - they're both fantasic games, and I'd really love to see Radiant Silvergun on the arcade, as well.

No.

Wait for Ikaruga. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, you will curse your own existence when this game effortlessly annihilates every nerve in your body. For those of you who do, you know why this is probably the best shump that will ever hit XBLA.

no way, Ikaruga is only the best seizure game ever made. it even affects people who never have photosensitive seizures. it's such an eye strain.

Can't imagine why it would be singled-out as being more of an eye strain than most other games. There are plenty of other games out there that have more flashing lights everywhere than Ikaruga.

Maybe Ikaruga's just giving people seizures from being too difficult. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Seizures from playing Ikaruga?

Surely you jest.

Links. Now.

seriously, my eyes were really messed up and it lasted for DAYS back then when
it first came out for GC. And I wasn't playing Ikaruga like 24/7,
but those light and dark shot patterns and stuff could really mess you up.
thankfully my eyes recovered and they don't hurt anymore.

Oh man, I remember playing that game. That game is tough as friggin nails.

Ungh, getting the true ending for both Exelica and Crueltear for me is getting really annoying. I only find Crueltear cute.

I love how your character is quite big yet fits through those small gaps between the impossible sometimes. Whatever happen to those days where if something hits you, you explode. :/

I've been slowly brushing up on my Ikaruga skills for the last couple months so I'll be ready for the XBLA release. Those achievements are MINE!! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif I just hope that some of the achievements are as hard to get as I know they can make them.

Yeah, difficutly seizures, that's gotta be it.

And the anchor sounds interesting, but meh in the end. At least Ikaruga taught me it was ok to get shot sometimes.

I'd have rather seen a revamped MUSHA or Raptor: Call of the Shadows. At least from the demo I found Triggerheart to be a mediocre shooter that was inundated with brighty cutesy anime dross. A big pass on that one.

Rocketeers, or Rocketmen or whatever it was that released along side of it was the much better game in terms of imaginative and stylish enjoyable art, touched nicely with the Comic Book cutscenes, and was simply more fun to play. The RPG elements of building up your character were nice as well.
