Mine is Dragonball.

What's yours?

I really don't have a favorite, but I just got through watching a pretty good one called Baccano!

So, that has my vote.

If we are talking feature films, then Princess Mononoke, runner up to Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. If we are talking OVA/series, then Oh My Goddess! takes the cake with Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya as a close 2nd..

I liked the original Dragon Ball series but could never get into Z... fights are like 5 seconds long but take three episodes of trash talking between characters to get to that 5 seconds.

The only anime series I watched entirely are Evangelion, Elfen Lied, and Rozen Maiden. I watched Bleach for a couple seasons.

Out of those, my favorite was probably Rozen Maiden.

Other than that, I prefer manga. Passive entertainment bores me, I prefer things I can get myself involved with.

Eh, if I had to choose I'd say it's a toss up between Ghost in the Shell and Hellsing Ultimate.

I'm pretty impressed with Ultimate lately. The first two volumes took a bit of liberty with the source material - to try to distance itself from the Anime. But now that it's in new territory it's really sticking close to the source and very entertaining to watch.

Finally getting to see Rip Van sing her opera (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUTJlLftmtI) was a real treat, and the voice they got for her is beautiful. I just wish the scene was a bit longer. It was also nice to see they added the flashback exchange between her and the Major where he alludes to her being Kaspar and Alucard as Zamiel. To say nothing of finally seeing Schrodinger animated (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDZ4RqLeHoo&feature=related).

Edit: Added subtitled version that cuts right to the opera.

It's actually a lot better than I was expecting.

Besides that, probably Higurashi.

You can really tell the budget restrictions with the anime sometimes though. Not that that is really a bad thing. My only problem with utawarerumono (both the anime and the game) is the crazy psuedo-sci-fi ending. I mean, it would have been a lot better if it stayed fantasy I think. Though it was still kinda fantasy it was like "wtf, why are we in a science lab now"

Higurashi is definately one of my all time favorites though.

If I had to make a top 3, it'd probably look something like (keep in mind, these aren't necessarily any better than eachother, they're probably weighted about equal in my mind).

1) Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
2) Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien / Rumbling Hearts
3) Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha (Its my guilty pleasure)

Hmm... now that I think about it, all 3 were based on games of some sort... oh well.

I like to check out the anime after playing a game or reading the manga, and usually its an interesting transition. Som I actually view as better than their manga counterparts (such as REC). But the last one I watched was Bokurano, and the anime was just so horribly bad compared to the manga... so so bad. It was unwatchable and I had to stop after a few episodes.

And personally, I think if you can't narrow it down to a top 5 or so, then you're just indecisive and don't know what you like and are just spouting nonsense.

I would say Samurai Pizza Cats and Ranma 1/2, they have
great characters, awesome art design (ya, the Ranma 1/2 creator
also made Inuyasha but I couldn't get interested in that theme.)
and a great funny world that has no serious crime going on. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

but currently I'm really excited to see what happens next in Bleach.
and its great because there's always something going on and
fights happen in almost every chapter/episode. and tons of
great characters and concept!
so the pacing is really better than other anime like DBZ (and much less filler than Naruto)

Does Ranma 1/2 drag on like inuyasha did? I've been thinking about checking it out, but I don't want it to be almost the same thing...I totally agree with you on the pacing of bleach. There's only like 3 filler episodes (at the point the dub is at) so far.

Saner

But me thinks the most universal anime woud be Lucky Star. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/13/Lucky_Star_main_characters.png

http://www.meidocafe.jp/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/lucky-star-03-large-17.jpg

XD

oh well I can't compare Inuyasha's "dragging on" to
Ranma 1/2's. I just looked at Inuyasha's cast and
I didn't like what I saw.

it's kind of like Dragonball Z, I'm really not interesting in Toriyama's other works (besides Chrono Trigger).

Ranma 1/2 to me just had everything right, the
right characters, comedy, insanity. Eventually
you may see similiar themes done again (Ryoga
getting lost, Ranma and Akane denying their feelings,
Shampoo returning with a new plan, etc.) but it does get better and better, and although the anime
is complete, the last manga parts lead to a very
great conclusion (Akane character development! can you believe it?!!) http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

out of the anime, I think there was only 1 episode
that was boring (the kid who lost their Panda.) but
ya you don't see how good the series gets until all
of the complete main cast are introduced. if I
recall, characters like Ukyo don't appear until I
think the 3rd season.

oh ya and although it's ultra-violent, I saw the
complete (both seasons) and
it was one of the greatest stories ever! Some of
the more noble-looking character desiFist of the North Star gns reminds me
a little of Phantasy Star III for some reason.

oh ya and Samurai Pizza Cats (revised script, which I think was redone in Canada)
is the best comedy around. super kawaii furries
and it's a really kooky yet wuvable world. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

but ya Bleach rocks!!!! especially since it's
probably the first anime I get into that isn't
finished. so it feels kinda new with each new
chapter. the dub is waaaay behind, so checking out
the manga translations are really worthwhile. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
