I'm compiling a little collection of programs and I was wondering what some of your guys favorite programs are. Also I checked the rules and I don't think I'm violating them, but sorry if I am.

So far I have:

DVD Tools:
AnyDVD- Amazing little thing runs in the background and will tear through any encryption thrown at it.

DVD Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/)- Can compress or re-author commercial DVD's to fit them onto a normal 4.7 disc.

Ripit4me (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/RipIt4Me)- Haven't tried this one but apparently it combines many programs into one ultimate ripping thingy.

DVD Decrypter (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1)- Rips the files right off a DVD.

Auto Gordian Knot (http://www.autogk.me.uk/)- Converts those ripped files to an AVI file.

Security:
AVG Antivirus Free
AVG AntiSpyware Free (http://free.grisoft.com/)
(not much here, haven't tried either :/)

Media Players:
Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) (W/Lame Lib.)- Pretty good for Audiophiles I guess. You can do stuff to your music like edit it.

iTunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes/)- You basically need this if you have an iPod.

Quicktime (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/)- ...not really necessary for anything.

VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/)- Will basically play any video file...ever. Kinda ugly though.

Winamp (http://www.winamp.com/)- One of the first media players ever!

System Utilities:
Adobe Reader 8.XX (http://www.adobe.com/)- For reading PDF's.

Adobe Flash Player (http://www.adobe.com/)- For Youtube basically.

CPU-Z (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/CPU-Z.shtml)- Look at info about your processor and stuff.

UltraISO- Used for any business having to do with disk images and .iso files.

Crap Cleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/)- I love this one! It adds and option to your recycle bin to use it and if you are a neat freak like me, it allows you to get all the crap off your computer. And clean old keys in your registry!

Damn NFO Viewer (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Text-editors/DAMN-NFO-Viewer.shtml)- For those .NFO files.

Norton Partition Magic- I have been unhappy with this one lately. It allows you to create partitions on your hard drive. Has a billion different errors to get. VERY ANNOYING.

System Information for Windows (http://www.gtopala.com/)- This one will tell you everything you need to know about your computer...and some things you don't!

Ultimate Defrag- Make sure those files are defragmented for better hard seek times and whatnot.

UltraMon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/)- For managing multiple monitors. Very good program.

WinRar (http://www.rarlab.com/)- Ultimate compression Software.

Visual Effects:
RocketDock (http://rocketdock.com/)- A nice dock so you can pretend to be using OSX http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Vista Inspirat- Make your XP look like Vista. (Also includes RocketDock)

Internet and the Likes:
Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/)- The best browser. PERIOD.

Pidgin (http://www.pidgin.im/)- A good chat client that can connect to multiple networks. (When I use it with Vista, it randomly crashes...)

Skype (http://www.skype.com/welcomeback/?cm_mmc=google%2Flatsearch-_-NA-US%7CEN-_-BD-_-kwid%3D200004894%7Ccreative%3D1063384166%7C-%7C100000000000000036571)- Calling over the internet!

Picasa (http://picasa.google.com/)- Google's picture viewer. Integrates nicely with your Google account, and gives you a gig of free space to host them online.

BitTorrent (http://www.bittorrent.com)- For file sharing.

I'm mostly an 'entertainment pc' kinda guy...

AudioSurf - even though my videocard crashes almost everytime I play it, it's still madly addictive.

Mugen - Fun, unbalanced fan-fiction fighting in short bursts

StepMania - DDR how YOU want it

yeah these are mostly old.....

Teh geimz:

PSU- duh >_>
PSO Blue Burst - Whenever I feel the need for nostalgia
Guilty Gear XX #Reload - get my fighting game fix
Melty Blood Act Cadenza - see GG XX
Audiosurf - addicting and as close as I can get to F-zero on PC http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Starcraft BW - Still a great RTS after all these years
DTXMania - great for practicing Guitar Freaks at home
Guitar Hero III - Because I don't have it for the consoles >_>
Mabinogi - My little break from PSU

Editing progs:

Fruity Loops Studio - Awesome for mixing audio
Audacity - Great for simple editing/recording audio
Adobe CS3 - pretty much self explanatory
Picasa2 - Good for applying simple and quick effects to pics
Guitar Pro 5 - Great for downloading guitar tabs and also making them
PowerTab - see GP5
3MLE - good for converting MIDI files to MML text
VirtualDubMod - a simple video editor/compressor
GIF Movie Gear - A really awesome GIF editor/maker

Media Players:
Winamp - Looks better than WMP and has a better EQ imo
VLC Media Player - for those .flv files

Misc.:

Firefox - Do I have to say anything? (have the Aero Fox skin for it)
Rocket Dock - Looks great if you have the right skin (Shine skin)
Vista Transformation Pack - Because Vista sucks, but the Vista UI is hawt
Windows Live Messenger - Because AIM sucks (using a custom skin)
LogOn Studio - Lets you make a custom log on screen for your PC
Combined Community Codec Pack - basically has all the vital codecs for video
MagicDisc and MagicISO - For mounting ISO's and making them
Ventrilo 3.0 - >_>

That's a lot of progs...

X-Chat - IRC FTW
Trillian - Because it doesn't seem as rude to ignore someone in a chat client as it does in person
Ultra-Mon - Something has to drive my ultra-sexy twin displays
FlashFXP - To move files around since the only thing in my house that doesn't have a HD in it is the stove
G6 FTP Server - So I can actually get to those files...and other people can beg me for access
Opera - Becase its faster than Firefox and I have enough memory to use it
Firefox - For when Operas wierd standards won't let me view a page
IE6 - When I just need the damn page to work
Windows Media Extender - XP MCE sucks, so this is my only option for streaming music to my 360
CS3 - Just to pretend I actually know how to use it
VLC - Those anime vids aren't going to play themselves
uTorrent - So the RIAA/MPAA can continue licking my taint
Winace - Because it will open anything, even things it shouldn't
Notepad - when absolutely everything else fails

CRTL-ALT-DEL - Because Windows is...Windows

A useful list of free programs Violet made up a while ago can be found here:
http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=106971&forum=9&36

This thread is fine as long as it doesn't give links to a place to download anything prohibited by the forum rules.

Games
- PSU
- Unreal Tournament 2004 (Haven't gotten around to getting the new one yet!)
- Warriors Orochi (I love the Dynasty Warriors series, so yeah)
- Final Fantasy VIII (I'm a fanboy, sue me. That, and my friend kindly lost my original PS FF8 discs, so yeah.
- Guitar Hero III (I have the Wii version, but I'd rather not crack my console to play custom songs. Doing it on PC version is easy. Admittedly it isn't installed at the moment though.

Creative
- Discreet 3D Studio Max 8 (There's later versions, but I haven't used it in a while either. Mainly use this for makeshift building 3D models, and from my old University course.

- Adobe Photoshop CS2. CS2 is good enough for me, and it lets me use my tablet/image manipulation. Again, mainly from Uni, but I use it of my own free will sometimes.

- Flash 8. I dabble a little in Flash movies, but not very often.

Other
- X-Fire. Great little in-game messenger that I use to talk to my friends while I'm on UT or PSU, or even just when I'm doing work.

- foobar2000. I use this for my music playback. WMP is horrific, and I noticed Winamp could be a bit of a CPU hog sometimes. This uses virtually no resources, and does the job fine.

- uTorrent. Er yeah, take a guess why I have this http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

- Alcohol 120%. Boots games and programs from ISO images.

- InterVideo Home Theater. I hate this damn thing, but as yet, its the only program I can find that will work well with my Gamebridge.

http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif I think all I use these days are:

Firefox
MS Paint
Itunes
Microsoft Word

To be honest, I'd rather use WMA ove iTunes if my iPod allowed it, and I'll probably switch to a Zune soon to be able to. iTunes has been nothing but crap since I started using it.

PSU - for my gaming needs on my laptop, console fulfills anything else I need for gaming, so this is it.
iTunes - Like OP said, if you have an iPod, you need this.
Firefox - My standard internet browser.
Azureus - For when I need to download anime and heavy metal music, I come here.
VLC - For watching anime
AIM - For talking to my friends, few are my PSU friends, but mostly my American IRL friends come here.
MSN - For talking to my friends, my friends who come here are mostly PSU and my Japanese IRL friends.
Microsoft Word - I need this to type up all of my essays for school.
Ventrilo - Because sometimes, I wanna talk to my PSU crew in voice chat or something.

My favorites that aint on any body's lits are:

FastStone image viewer - Perfect for mass formating of the images i use in my comics

Magix Music maker - a really good music program with a buttload of features. good for when im thinking that i can do better than that crud on Fresh FM.

The Games Factory - making dodgy games has never been easier.

Lego Digital Designer - if i cant be bothered to get my Lego sets out

Phun - a really fun and easy to use Physics Sandbox program

Joy To Key - gives you auto fire on your game pads. The perfect tool for Fortegunners.

And because people are doing games:

Frets On Fire - a freeware version of guitar hero. you can make your own songs in it and it can rip the songs from the guitar hero games and play them.

Trackmaina United - all 3 trackmaina games in one neat package, yes please.

Live For Speed - Best racing sim ever (screw you grand turismo)
