Well, here's a quick rundown of what we have now:

Light, fast, strong Samurai (Scrub)
Really heavily-armored, huge behemoth of a tank (Z-)
Dwarf Barbarian with an axe (Sord)
Cowboy with two pistols and a broadsword (Toadthroat)
Bard who wields a crossbow and a longsword (Ian)
Sorceror who is proficient in light armor and scimitars (Me)
As you can see, we do have some means of ranged attack. It's just that everyone can melee and we won't look completely wimpy if someone closed the distance on us.

That's a bit harder than you would think. Since an arrow by itself would be considered an improvised weapon, you would take -4 on your attack roll.

Edit: Okay, fine, so it would be hard for him to hit in melee combat. He still is a valuable asset to the party with his Bardic Music and that kind of stuff.

I will in the future refrain from picking spells I think my character is actually likely to know based on his past and personality and will make absolutely certain that he does not try to attack things despite the fact that he would, in fact, try to do exactly that.)

You're probably L2 as well, shligg originally said everyone but me gained a level and then decided that Nai got one too because Bards 'suck anyway'.

I should just have him get offed in his 'sleep' or just do my level best to get him killed in the next encounter and make that cleric so I can play the way people want me to. ._.

And Talon, arrows are improvised weapons because they're designed to be shot into people, not used as daggers for stabbing.

If you've ever done any archery, you should know you don't go stabbing it into your targets, you can snap the damn thing for starters. Depending on the arrow head, it may not even puncture near as well as if shot at high speed in a single focused direction. Don't forget, these are medieval arrows, not some top-of-the-line arrow set in the modern day. They're not going to be much more durable than a twig in reality.

Would need to think up a good storyline idea/locations/people/stuff/evilness/house rule a few things, and have people who know what they're doing better than me not eat me alive. Maybe house rule in some of the more interesting/adaptable stuff from 4e.

Hmm. How about this...

A giant robot or golem attacks a major city and we have to help defend it.
A naval battle between a large band of pirates and the crew of the small ship on which the party is traveling.
A covert mission to locate and assassinate an important person of a rival kingdom.
And there's also the thing everyone thinks of when they hear "DnD" (or what I think of), exploring a large, Indiana Jones-style tomb in search of lost treasure.
As for starting equipment, it depends on what level. If we're level 10, surely we'll have found at least something with enhancement bonuses and maybe a couple of nice magic items.

It won't do you any good what with the several dozen arrows about to hit you in the head, the ones standing around you with swords and the mages ready to fry you into oblivion, but you'll hit the ground before you vaporize at least.
