Stop tuning into rap then. I don't know what music you're talking about, but you probably just keep falling into the wrong music.

Well, it's entirely possible to have a vocal cord injury that doesn't destroy one's ability to speak. Hell, most people already are at a stage where they can speak but can't sing for fuck.

And eh, my eyesight sucks as it is. Sure, I'd more or less have to give up the internet if I went blind, but eh. It'd probably be good for me. XP

Man, I need to start taking voice lessons again, my upper range has gone to fucking hell from not being used for so long. And I know better than to force it and just start trying to get up there haphazardly, great way to do exactly what I don't want to do and hurt myself.

Nitro: Well, guitar wins right now since we no longer have a keyboard, but we do still have a guitar. Piano/keyboard is my preference since it's good for learning melodies from sheet music, since I can't quite sight read. It's a skill I need to cultivate, but it would be best done with a piano so I can get the pitches in my head right. Just work at it until I get to the point where if I see, say, an F sharp, I can just sing it straight off without having to try to find the pitch somehow. Shouldn't be too hard, I pick up on music really quickly.

Tact: Holy Rati, man, stop judging all music by one genre.

Try some opera, some trance, old standards from the first half of the 20th century, classical, stuff from musicals, some jazz, church music, traditional folk tunes from various cultures... Light, man, there's an entire universe of music out there that does not centre on how hot some guy/chick is and how much the singer wants to get into his pants/up her skirt!

Songs of anger, of hate, of triumph, of despair, of endless undying love... The thrilling heights of an aria sung by a well-trained soprano, the glorious depths of a basso profundo, all the ranges inbetween... The incredible level of skill and training on display in opera, the simple lovlieness of a simple tune sung plainly, the swelling of an orchestra, the tinkling of a single harp... Come on, man, there's an entire universe of music out there that has nothing to do with how hot someone is!

Here, you want something that's not how hot someone is? Go watch that video I linked earlier. Pure seething rage, and a hellishly difficult piece of music. Glorious.

But yeah, man, expand your horizons, music is too wide and beautiful a landscape to sit there focusing only a piece of trash on the ground. Pick up the piece of trash, toss it in a bin and look at everything else around you.

*holds tact hostage and sings to him* You will learn the joys and magic of music if it kills both of us!

I used to be able to hit High D easily and High E with a minimum of fuss, with some screechy flitting up into Fs and Gs and even just barely the A above High C. Now it's a struggle to even reach High C. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif Too many years of mostly pop/rock singing, or even worse, not singing at all, rather than proper classical singing. Though, full-on classical training and singing only in that style has its own drawbacks, ever hear an opera singer try to sing Amazing Grace? Reminds me of this girl in my Chorus class in high school who sang something by Whitney Houston at the Baccalaureate when we graduated and she sounded fucking godawful because she'd been taking voice lessons since she was little, in the classical style, and her voice had developed that way and the poppy schmaltz was an utter mismatch for her voice. She sang the solo part at the beginning of the Sister Act 2 version of Joyful, Joyful as well, which is supposed to be done in a very R&B-y, soul-y style that she simply couldn't do. (Teacher's pets, ahh, isn't that always a double-edged sword? She got all the solos, but... Well, even then half the time it was to her detriment, sadly, due to the teacher's inability to realise that her talents did not lie in certain forms of music)

On the bright side, using the lower end of my range has devloped *that*, so I can now go lower than I used to be able to...

But yes, Tact, we must see about broadening those horizons of yours. Any particular requests? *launches into Greensleeves*

d6 are a little boring though.

Wonder how many people realise though, that in addition to being cubes, d6s are also a special case of the type of shape d10s and d14s and the like are.

But seriously, Randomness, I wish to learn all about this 'reality' thing. It sounds like a truly fascinating subject.

Catholic schools are supposed to teach it, but my school's the only one in the area that does.

Oh. First is good. To be honest, I'm happy they removed the Medic's Immunize ability. At level 10, it reduced hits that would do 200ish damage to hits of at most half that. Boosted (adds five levels, replaced in 2), it was godly defense. This is in addition to anything else I used.

Etrian odyssey is a dungeon crawl. Basically you make a party of up to 5 people from several classes, then go kill stuff. To be more accurate at lower levels... You try to kill stuff and build up some money while running back to town repeatedly to heal. Or you find some flowers, take a nap, and get ambushed by a group of enemies from the next floor who proceed to slaughter half your party before you get to move. (This happened to me, actually)

Whole game is basically a town and a giant dungeon (First was 30 floors seperated into six strata).

It's a DS game, not an MMORPG. I said I would name my party after FKLers because I know the names won't be taken. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Randomness, have you been doing research on the skill trees or something? Without Immunize, how are we going to get our elemental defense? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Randomness
May 7, 2008, 03:38 PM
Immunize wasn't elemental defense, it boosted defense against ALL attacks.

Troubador's shelter raises defense, Protectors can give elemental resistance/immunity/absorbtion. I haven't looked too much at the trees, but its there. Its just not in a convenient one-spell package.

Tact
May 7, 2008, 03:40 PM

No, no, I mean I'm naming my Medic "Tact." http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Sord's definitely a Dark Hunter and Ronin will be...well...a Ronin. I have no idea what I'm naming my other characters though.

Randomness
May 7, 2008, 03:50 PM
Dibs on alchemist. I actually name mine after myself in the first.

Something you should know, is to make good use of the rest (or retire) option. Early on you'll need more points in the lower stuff than you will later. So eventually the option to sacrifice 10 levels to respend skill points is very attractive. (Like moving all points beyond pre-reqs in cure I+II and salve I into cure II and salve II, plus other areas)

Tact
May 7, 2008, 03:57 PM
Alright, fine, you can be the Alchemist. You can hang out in the back row with me while Sord, Ronin, and someone else do all of the frontline fighting. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Randomness
May 7, 2008, 04:04 PM
Right now, if I had to make an all-purpose adventuring party... well, theres so many options. Troubador's Relaxing is a godsend, with that, you can kill all but one enemy, then sit there defending for a while as your TP refills.

Something to note, is that (at least in 1), normal buffs wear off after 5 turns, but Troubador songs last until death or the end of the battle.

There are five characters per party. Alchemists are basically the wizards of the game. Instead of spells, they just chuck potions imbued with elemental powers.

Edit: As well as those five characters in your party, you can have other characters wait at the Guild Center. So I could theoretically name all of my characters after FKLers. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Five to a party, but theres like 10-12 classes. You can make more characters, you can just only have five with you at once.

Plus the myriad ways to make said characters.

Actually... Front and Back guards aren't that great in the long run, since they tie your protector up. I believe protectors now have a pair of skills for elemental and physical damage that are similar to Immunize... Also, Protectors do have some nice beatdown in Smite.

I had to give some examples. I also did see some videos of Protectors doing rather good damage with Smite. There's a video of a Protector soloing the tenth-floor boss (I think it was the tenth floor) and another of the same Protector soloing something else.

Randomness

Yeah, Protectors are good solo since they have Cure II, all sorts of defenses, and Smite.

Tact
May 7, 2008, 05:54 PM
Though, in a party I don't think a Protector should have Cure II. A Medic can heal pretty well enough, provided they're kept up. If your Medic dies, the rest of the party is pretty much toast even if the Protector has some healing.
