*MOVED FROM FIRST POST*

Alright folks, here i go with my stuff.
I finally gave up to the pressure due to qoxolg's constant mailbox spam and threatening blackmails and decided to post some things there. D°'
After a rather long break from drawing (around two to three years without drawing anything), getting my hands on a Wacom tablet finally convinced me to get back on drawing (that and the fact i'm a selfish attention whore). Hence, thought it would be good to show off some pieces of what i've made back in the days, before posting any new stuff. I probably will have to re-practice everything after such a long break, anyways. Don't expect anything f*ckin' awesome on the past and future drawings you're about to see, also.

Starting off with some paper stuff, most of it has been made during classes at high school, when i was bored, so they usually were made in the margin and so on (thus, the small size for some of them). By the way, they're all made with pen 'cause i never had patience to finish anything if i started sketching it on pencil first.

Next the computer graphics one. Not made on Photoshop, but on online applets (PaintBBS / ShiPainter) on things called oekakiboards. Then, the size, number of layers and tools were very limited - those i'm planning to do in the near future will be on Photoshop though, so i can go on a cleaner lineart and so on. As it was on a board, don't mind all the "dedications" to other members on the draws, especially the B-Day ones. Last note : all made with a mouse. Here they are, even the shittiest (i'm gonna try to sort them in chronological order - most ancient first, and newest last) :

[spoiler-box]"Becoming Your Disease" - I made this first one with a model (reference : Deathtrap Dungeon Beastiary).
http://a327.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/55/l_b29bad19a9c11e255e03ed5672b760e6.jpg

"Hell_WatChEr" - Quite lame, save the pupil.
http://a539.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/46/l_3dd48392d8838aecc8b96ddb358d651a.jpg

"Nasty Birthday" - The robot was kind of my internet avatar at the moment, based on the armor design from Fallout Tactics.
http://a836.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/37/l_3d5e635738c08e5d4bd56ad47fa425db.jpg

"Gloomy Experience" - First one on another board.
http://a568.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/49/l_c07d77056c0bad729106c7b8bf44612f.jpg

"Cait Sith" - Obvious reference, used a model.
http://a844.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/37/l_a0ed1ed68f6c1eb7adcbdf8e79a4afc3.jpg

"The custard was pus" - Taken from a french comic, used model 'cause i just wanted to sketch that one fast for fun.
http://a17.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/45/l_09091ec860a5b21f059db6aa66f8c280.jpg

"Final Strike" - Collaboration with another member. She made the left character and her coloration, i did all the rest.
http://a779.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/61/l_c84305c16b5838720bdf4b1ce39468b2.jpg

"Nearly Perfect" - For a contest on the board where we had to draw something about one of our most prefered video games.
http://a971.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/13/l_69369c2095694cb80cedddac547fdeca.jpg

"Abstraction" - This one was very fast. I just let my hand do things without thinking about anything.
http://a115.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/12/l_cbbc92a5cf45ae44252cdc35380b9272.jpg

"Necrid" - Though the drawing in itself was a total failure, i kept it because i was very proud of the way i made the scales on this one.
http://a566.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/60/l_29e028a5f3716c7c51adcee845d89b1d.jpg

"Poring !" - Huh... well...
http://a246.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/55/l_be84e177ef9827ae0bf5b3567b3812f5.jpg

"No Cake" - Based on characters from a mahnwa, Yureka. The text basically says 'No cake for the next two months !!'
http://a529.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/36/l_2175e5a558124bbd0e9e86aa8ade8648.jpg

This one has been made on a paintchat.
http://a914.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/42/l_3831815220dbc5c608023c805131fbb1.jpg

Also made on a paintchat ; though the reference is quite obvious, i didn't use any model for this one.
http://a684.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/33/l_e01fbd344561930b652d42f02fe715fb.jpg

SD version of the 'Nasty Birthday' character, for my personal avatar use. Made on paintchat as well.
http://a47.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/61/l_b59855390a9c8f9ebee80e16b1544976.jpg

"GoThiK LoLiTa" - For another contest, theme being Gothic Lolitas. This is a proof i totally suck at drawing girls, she looks very odd.
http://a475.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/47/l_d4ea90ce1e7a07a38223d067b690afc2.jpg

"Dragon" - Another collaboration on which i only made the coloring.
http://a741.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/45/l_f9871a83920ad34ee42e1a47a37f59ec.jpg

"Dead Zone 315 EmergenCy" - The first i tried out a real drawing with no outlines at all. Could have been worse, so i'd say i'm pretty satisfied.
http://a365.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/36/l_2f34390a105cc5821209014146b9038c.jpg

"J'attaque ! (I attack !)" - Random stupidity.
http://a780.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/46/l_42be889b117e0ed83e0aa6408da42f23.jpg

"Mephisto" - My demon assassin character in a friend's paper RP game.
http://a608.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/46/l_3d0f5b5371719507f3e0bff8006d8587.jpg

"Birthday Fake" - Now, say what you want, i love this one.
http://a483.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/5/l_fcde331125df7cf7f568c20c545e1472.jpg

"Primal Fears" - For Halloween contest, i let my hand draw down what i had in mind again. I know, it kinda changed since 'Abstraction'. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
http://a895.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/60/l_6510518ba1196921d98360958a5ae47e.jpg

Paintchat work too ; was just playing with white brush on a black background and it turned into that - i kept it to use it as an avatar on some boards (funny how the less worked things always end up being the best ones °|).
http://a461.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/62/l_8d13aab9fc608247f0edfb4faf10642c.jpg

"Moondance" - Inspired from the song from Nightwish. Last thing i've made, and it was already after a four month break (kinda noticeable, i guess).
http://a981.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/39/l_a40f0841d255ce3c2f02290d334edccc.jpg[/spoiler-box]

And last but not least, some random Photoshop stuff, implying cutting / pasting things together and all.

"Deep Forest"
http://a823.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/39/l_668030b74c89dc9cb92bde14cc962e36.jpg

Here it is... So like said, i'm gonna try to make some new stuff anytime soon but the first ones are going to suck, i predict.
Also, i'm not gonna draw stuff on a regular basis, this will whenever i feel like drawing some. Drawing something that doesn't look aweful consumes a very big lot of my time, and i have very short patience. As the long break i took probably stated it by itself, drawing isn't my top priority in my free time. Though i did this thread because i want to draw again for four reasons :
1. Improving my techniques, so i can...
2. ...make my own illustrations for my paper RP game.
3. Like said, i'm an attention whore, which brings me to the fourth and last stage :
4. The community here, in this Fan Works section, is a bit small but seems quite strong (in terms of reliability) and i have the hope i will anytime be skilled enough to collaborate with one or some of the people hanging around there. (It happens rarely, but sometimes insanity can make the dreams come true.) http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

(Phew, this post was the most tedious i ever made... °x )

PICK ME!! PICKME!!

But seriously, like I already said on MSN before: You got plenty of talent, it's mostly a lack of time spent on the pics. Also the tablet and better software (photoshop) will help alot to improve.

By the way.. if you don't like to spent lot's of time drawing, you should learn how to speedpaint. There are quite enough video tutorials out there.

Well keep 'em coming! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Space Marine? Im guessing, partly because of the 'Talos' in some of the images too http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif I'm just saying it looks like a Space Marine, because of the robes/breathing apparatus, as is the common gothic style of WH40K art. If it's a Chaos Marine, or indeed something else, I apologise http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

I'd give yourself more credit anyway, some of those drawings are pretty decent, just maybe spend a bit more time on them and refine them a little?

I really like Mephisto. Nice details and good coloring I'd say. I think you can get the hang of framing things better so they look hella nice http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I have to admit, weird-looking creatures and random aberrations are my favourite stuff when it comes to drawing something. I should work for ST and design their stupid-looking mobs. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Here's the big deal : i'm too much of a perfectionist, but i have very short patience at the same time. Hence, i like things with lot of details, good linework and all, then i never considered the speedpaint as an alternative - this always will be lacking of the details i want, IMO. And on another hand, my patience is getting shorter as i'm progressing on a drawing i'm doing, so i guess that's the first thing i have to train rather than the techniques in themselves. I kinda managed to train my patience regarding online games, that's must doable for drawing as well.
That will sound ewww for you, but on the CG ones, i usually spent three to four more times on the linework than on the coloring in itself. Really, those with no outlines at all, i made 'em in no time. "Primal Fears" has been made in like one hour and the little creepy head next to it in about 10 mins at most. I spent like hell of a bunch of hours on the Cait Sith, only for working on the linework (with a mouse is a pain in the ass), and after all that shit, the applet fucked up and merged all the layers together... Fun to color. <_ ;

Space Marine? Im guessing, partly because of the 'Talos' in some of the images too I'm just saying it looks like a Space Marine, because of the robes/breathing apparatus, as is the common gothic style of WH40K art. If it's a Chaos Marine, or indeed something else, I apologise

Well, i guess it is probably a bit-inspired from the kind of artworks you mentioned, though i never been very into Warhammer universe - i was just supporting Tyranides teams because i just loved the whole concept of alien-like creatures invading planets by making their hive-like spaceships laying giant eggs filled with their troops on the land.
I'm just kinda fond of all cybernetic / steampunk / post-apocalyptic stuff, so Space Marines are good references among others. As for the Talos thingy, it's actually my main alias on teh internet since i'm online, but it was already taken by someone else on PSOW so i picked one of my PSU characters name instead for login. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif It is nothing related to the Dark Eldar thing they released way after i picked it though. I kinda made it up by merging the words Talon with Protoss, back when i was playing Starcraft ; but i probably had read the word anywhere before without really paying attention, as it is also the evil god of storms and destruction in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms campaign setting (and i'm kind of a D&D veteran), as well as a giant iron golem forged by Hephaistos in greek mythology - anyhow, all those things are related to things i have interests in.

I really like Mephisto. Nice details and good coloring I'd say. I think you can get the hang of framing things better so they look hella nice

Heh thanks. I'm quite satisfied of how he turned out. I had to draw it because every other player was associating the word 'demon' with 'huge reddish scaled creature with corrosive saliva and sharp claws'. It is planned i redraw it anytime, because of both Sayara's thread about 'remakes' and also as his appearance kinda evolved since i've drawn him (not in a very good way though, he's now heading towards the 'corrosive saliva and sharp claws' standards).

Also, before anyone else say it : the cake is a lie.

You know you want to eat it. Or maybe that's the opposite ?

I write too much for crap. You still don't know it, but this thread isn't about art but about random stupid chitchatting. *puts sunglasses and pulls out the reddish lobotomisation light at readers*

hmm.. I have the exact opposite when drawing: I hate to just simply START.. the more I come to the end of the coloring the more I start to like doing it.. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif since the pic just starts to look awesome when your at 70% of finishing it.

Just remember that you somehow need to make the coloring fun yourself.

Epic bump from the abyss of nowhere, YEEHA !

So here's my first piece of shyt with Photoshop CS3 and a Wacom tablet.
Yeah, I know the coloring is a bit lame but my goal was more aiming towards putting a random idea I had about PSU for a while into form than doing an amazing piece of work, which I save for my D&D illustrations (I'll try my best at least, since I still need lot and lot of practice).

Oh yeah, and that's the first and last time I do a full-colored comic thingy, that was horrible, I had the feeling it would never end. :disapprove: (And I procrastinated for weeks on the sketch.)

Here comes Easter Eggs (in Spoiler Box because the DA link is showing off the last frame of the comic in the preview...) :

[spoiler-box]94881360[/spoiler-box]

Full size version (for those who want to see my "work" more in-depths) :
Easter Eggs (http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/2280/eastereggsul9.jpg)

I have another comic project on the side, though. Probably will post it there if this little piece did its job for at least a few people (not everybody has the same type of humour).

It won't be colored, with more simple and less worked lines, since the focus will be on what happens in it, but it'll keep the same comic style I used in Easter Eggs.
Won't be related to PSU either, but on DDO (Dungeons & Dragons Online), another online game I'm playing with friends and on which I got many ideas for a lot of short and stupid random comic strips. I think even those who didn't play that game will be able to get the jokes anyways.
I leave PSU silliness to other people on those boards ; I don't have many ideas, and some people are already working on it, so chances we end up having similar ideas are to be taken into consideration.

Hope you enjoyed this. Dunno when will be my next piece of drawing, but it should be more worked (since I'll most likely have only one character to work on).

HOLYSHITBLOODYHELLLOLWUTEVENMOREEPICBUMP

Long time no see, huh? I therefore demand attention!

Well, I'm finally taking on doing something else than a poorly colored comic. In other words, it's feckin' time for an illustration!
For my first try, I decided to go with a character from my D&D campaign I drew about three years ago on paper.
I went with a very different pose this time, because I wanted to train on perspectives at the same time I was learning to make use of PS basic tools.
I also changed a few things, such as the bad Nightmare rip-off torso on the original picture (I was desperate in finding something to fill the blank on the torso) that I replaced with a third arm ; some epic nerds around here might spot in this arm some kind of reference to Half-Life's Xen aliens, which is partially true.
I also think the pose, coupled with the grin, makes him look more intelligent and display a feeling of danger to the viewer. I tried several times to give him a shut mouth with huge teeth like on the original picture, anyways, and he was looking horribly stupid everytime, so blah.

Here's the sketch (just click the link to see it ; it doesn't show up here because it's in the scraps):

115737793

I'll post detailed informations about the sucker next time I'm bumping this thread to post the colored finished version.
Speaking of which, I'm gonna directly color on the sketch, kinda experimenting a coloring technique I think would fit best with my "style". I saved and posted the sketch mostly because, as it is an experimentation, I probably might completely screw up and make the final result look worse than this ; especially since I tend to prefer making stuff in black&white (well, as you can see, not necessarily black, but you get the idea).

For reference, comparison, bragging, or anything else you'd like to call it, here's also the original picture I made on paper, with a black ink pen.

Nah, he got too many monstrous features to belong into Silent Hill.
A good Silent Hill monster must remind you of something familiar and common (human, mannequin, dog...), but in a twisted and deranging way. This one is just a big beefy MONSTER.
I'll eventually draw some of the monsters designs I made for my Silent Hill one-shot RPG session, you'll see what I mean.

Replace the blade with some kind of firearm and he could make a good BioHazard B.O.W., though.

I am curious about the coloring style you have in mind. Are you gonna use the sketch as greyscales?

Rust
Mar 13, 2009, 08:49 AM
Nope, but I'll keep it with very low opacity while I'm coloring to keep proportions and some shadings.
I'm actually planning on not using the burn and dodge layer, besides maybe for projected shadows in the end (like the serpentine tail's shadow on the top of the character's head), and do all my shadings with only brush strokes of shades of the original color I'm using for said part, with an epic 'zoom' if necessary (I drew that with a 30 px brush on a 6000x8000 image, so I'd have a really huge close-up with the image at 100%) ; the few lines I'll use will also be in different shades and probably thinner and better defined than what's on the sketch.

Valorus Zero

Valorus is the main villain in our current D&D campaign.

Once a normal dark elf with no particular features, Valorus became what he is now thanks to a very unexpected course of events. Infected with a very rare specie of magical symbion known as the Keraptis parasite (named after the disused mage who created them), Valorus turned his new condition into an advantage he could use to serve his new goals (goals that are a consequence of his infection, but that won't be detailed here).

Not only Valorus survived his infection, where most hosts die within the week following the first contact, but he also managed to get some control over the parasite unique properties. The most noticeable feature of the Keraptis parasite is its ability to change the shape of its host randomly, usually provoking ithe host's death in a few days due to the extremely traumatizing experience this body unstability can cause.
But the parasite usually infects unintelligent species (animals, vermins...) through body of waters and such, not creatures with a mind. As the first intelligent host (for which the parasites were created at first place), Valorus managed to prevent the parasite from changing his shape when not desired. Moreover, he managed to control this ability to some extent, and in a matter of weeks. He could then choose when to shapechange, but not what form he could assume.

As of now, though, Valorus fully masters two forms, one being that of a black skinned wyvern, the other being the one presented here. The 'Zero' in the name comes from the fact it's the very first form Valorus learned to master. The form shown here is also pretty different from the original one, Valorus contributing to it with new additions as he progresses in the mastering of his shapechanging ability.
By the end of the campaign, Valorus won't need to change shapes anymore as he will able to shape instantly and independently any of his limbs or other parts of his body while staying in his original dark elf form, which will make him a very deadly and unpredictable opponent. Players will, however, fight with Valorus Zero during Chapter 25 ("Final Assault"), where the only clone Valorus made of himself before the Slarecian cloning machine got destroyed will lead a full-scale attack on the players' HeadQuarters in order to retrieve all the missing artifacts pieces needed to get his plan achieved. As a less advanced copy of the original, this version of Valorus will still have to rely on his "Zero" form during battles, while the real Valorus will already be at his full capabilities at that point of the campaign.

At the beginning, this form wasn't granted a third torso arm and the snake tail. Later on, the torso arm will be able to throw itself and retract, much like an organic grappling hook.
Besides the obvious claws, fangs, and tail, Valorus Zero carries a huge blade instead of his right arm. His left arm is also able to throw spikes charged of negative energy, those being replaced by new ones in a matter of seconds. Valorus Zero is also amazingly agile, despite his bulky shape and heavy structure.
Also, because he assumes the shape of a somewhat brutal looking monster doesn't mean Valorus becomes such. Under this form, Valorus is still able to make full use of his mental abilities, including his keen sense of strategy and magic powers. This deceiving primitive appearance is what makes him truly deadly, as fighting with Valorus Zero is definately more than just a matter of brute force.

(lol character description written like shit)

Well, I'm fully aware there is several big mistakes in the drawing, but I don't want/don't know how/am too lazy to fix them as of now.
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied of how it turned out for an experiment. At the very least, I didn't screw up the whole sketch the way I thought I would have had.

Any comment appreciated, even though I can safely say constructive criticism (as in: "what should be fixed") won't do anything for this one. Not saying it's not welcome, but that I won't touch this particular drawing again.

For the record, "Constructive Criticism" is rarely there for you to change it on the particular drawing, just some advice for your next project really.

It's a lot clearer in color though. Good Job.
