Why must it always be a roundhouse? Never dropping it into an alternate dimension, no nukes, no illusions...
In short, no massive arcane stuff, no sci-fi, no trickery...
BORING!

I agree, Simple is best.
If I was dropped into another dimension or on an exploding star. I wouldn't have time to be scared, I'd be trying to figure out wtf is going on. And by the time I do figure it out, I'd be dead.
But if I saw a bear with big-ass wolverine class running towards me. I don't need to figure out whats gunna happen, I know. Its going to rip me apart. And thats when I shit mah pants.

Not to mention that any of those options would be a step down.

Alternate dimensions are for pansies, and the fallout from nukes is more trouble than its worth.
Just hit it until it dies.

There've been too many. I can't keep track of 'em all.
Fun fact: One o' my former roommates was named for a friend of the Doctor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Jane_Smith). MoreYouKnowStarHere

Sarah Jane has her own show now; it is ok, I just hate how it is presented though. Just about every episode is 2 parts with SciFi splitting them up: first part one week then second part the next (they do part 2 episode A followed by part 1 of episode B).
