PsuIlluminus.exe and PsuIlluminusOff.exe crash

hi, a friend is having big problem trying to run AoI

she say that the error comes trying to load the charachter info. so psuilluminus.exe crash giving a generic error message

even the offline crash with the same generic error, right after selecting "new game"

this is the configuration of her pc

Windows XP Professional SP2
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
2.81 GHz 1,00 GB RAM
ATi Radeon 9600
NOD32 version 3134
windows firewall

she downloaded all patches (GG and AOI)
directx provided with aoi dvd installed (then tried again installing the lastest directx from the microsoft site)

game reinstalled multiple times.. and she also follewed this guide

even if the problem looks different
tryed to start the game with NOD32 deactivated and minimum graphic setting. but nothing..

plus, with PSU (non AoI) she never had any type of problem..

what it can be? o.O

she tried starting aoi with no other application running but nothing.. to me it looks like some file is corrupted but dunno how it can be..

tried the installation from another dvd.. still crash in the same way.. so i think it can't be a corrupted file at this point..

lol.. it was really simple.. she didn't had updated videocard driver... >_> now all works fine.. <_<
