This makes sense: a 12-year-old girl was kicked off her basketball team for ... being a girl. Apparently, the other players' parents didn't discriminate on the basis of gender until they realized Jaime Nared would routinely make their sons look like Scott Howard before he learned to harness his awesome powers.

Nared stand over 6 feet tall and initially was encouraged to join the all-boys league.
"[The parents of the other teams' players] were great ... until she blocked the first shot. Then they were like, 'Hey, we don't want this big kid coming out and making us look bad,'" said Michael Abraham, Jaime's coach.

After parents complained, The Hoop, a private league that organizes the games, told Jaime she could no longer play with the boys, citing a rule that bars mixed-gender teams.
Yes, because God forbid a kid with no discernible basketball talent gets embarrassed by a kid with gobs of ability. I suspect this has very little to do with the players -- 12-year-olds have a pretty high humiliation threshold -- and everything to do with athletically frustrated parents trying to "keep the dream alive!" through their kids. Solid.

Nared's teammates have written letters to the league, but the The Hoop is unwilling to budge. In a statement to ABC News, the league office said "It stands by its decision to not change the rules of their spring league while in process."

Nared had played with the team for more than a year, but now, because of some arbitrary ruling, the league is unwilling to consider reinstating her because the spring league is in progress? Ingenious. Good to see politics has infiltrated 12-year-old private basketball league's in Oregon.

Whatever, even though Nared has yet to enter high school, she's already been offered a scholarship to Oregon State. I eagerly await The Hoop's efforts to shoot down those dreams.

Fuck the other parents and any of the whiny kids who got owned. If she has talent, she'll go far regardless of all this bullshit; if anything it has put her on a very nice spotlight, and she'll go much, MUCH further than had they kept their damn traps shut about it.

And yes, lets take out the strongest player, as opposed to encouraging their own kids to man up and do better. My dad would have said "Stop being a pussy, get better at it or quit."

Wow. That's kinda ridiculous. Girls playing basketball? Absurd!
I jest. Honestly this is ridiculous. It just goes to show that people are willing to break the rules as long as they aren't being effected by it. But once they get the short end of the stick because of rule breaking: WATCH OUT! She played for a year, why pick now to enforce the "No Girls Allowed" rule? I really hope this girl gets some kind of justice for what they are doing.

If they had never let her in to begin with, I wouldn't have a problem. Since they decided to throw the book at her after burning it the first time around, they need to shut the hell up and sleep in the bed they made.

More growth hormone, probably.

And I'm getting sick of this "Everyone is a winner" attitude that people have forced onto these generations.

If you are a loser, you are a freakin' loser. Get off the court. ;| Poor parents, is your son crying because he lost to a girl? That's too bad, he needs to suck it up, just like you need to, and be mature about it. Maybe if they practiced they wouldn't have a problem, now would they?

I don't see why they should kick her out.
That's stupid.
That always happens when a girl in a guy's league does better than the guys.

lol i find this funny. Personally though,if I were a lawyer id be all over this lawsuit. Also, its even more funny that a couple of boys choose to get rid and ignore the so called problem rather than strive to be better than her...I think thats how this generation has become lazy...more people rather not bother than try. Well obviously this girl is gonna be offered lots of deals since this brought publicity AND because she has talent.

That just wrong. So it was okay for her to play with the boys untill she started to outshine them, then all of a sudden it's a mix gender issue. :-x

At any rate, she shouldn't have been in the boys' league to start with if it's against the rules.

It's just weird to me, that everyone younger than me is taller than me.

Frankly, I think it's that bovine growth shit they put in cows nowadays.

Not to mention, I more than likely got the short end of my family. ._.

i remember when i was in 5th and 6th grade, i "went out" with a girl that was incredible at basketball... she was insanely athletic. i am quite athletic as well, i was better at hockey and football than basketball, but when we were playing basketball once she packed my shit straight into the ground. BURIED. due to my extremely competitive nature, i learned in order to avoid future arguments and to solidify our "makeout sessions"(which at 10 years old is the equivalent of getting laid) behind the school gym without a hitch, i must always make sure we're on the same team playing basketball together. had she been on a different team and was posting up against me, i dont think i would have compromised as easily.

but it wouldnt be any different if it was my best friend, i would treat him with the same intensity during the game. but its proven that girls have a harder time "leaving it on the court" than guys do... and dont argue about that being sexist, because it's scientific FACT aside from a few exceptions. so unless you find the right girl that is completely neutral emotionally, intense competition can have negative effects on their lives. maybe their LOVE LIVES. this girl could fall in love with her arch rival from the MOST HATED rival team due to the amount of hatred and resentment towards the point guard, and maybe that is what the league was afraid of happening, so they BANISHED her. she's on the cusp of producing high levels of estrogen, making her attraction to men rapidly growing... both off and ON the court. or maybe her love interest is a rival... ON HER TEAM. if she's number 1, has another dude that begins to surpass her in basketball greatness, giving her a run for the money... sexual tension could arise between them when the GAME IS ON THE LINE and when the "rising star" male b-ball player sleeps with her best friend, putting their relationship in jeopardy. how will she be able to continue to play at that level of intensity while her favorite teammate turns into her nemesis?

ALERT THE PRODUCERS OF JUANNA MAN. i'm sensing a box office SLAM DUNK.

actually i'm just joking, but dont take that movie idea, please. i could imagine that being a lifetime 2 hour special in a few weeks

LOL I'm 5'11" and I'm the midget in my family. My dad's taller, and my brothers are 6'6" and 6'8". They call me their big little sister because I'm 8 years older than one of them and 11 years older than the other. My brothers both hit 6' at 12, I was only 5'9" when I was 12 though. I think it's something to do with milk...

I totally agree with you. There's one thing to bolster self esteem and make your kids feel good about themselves, but completely another when you're talking delusions and competitive sports. Besides that, if you're only the best because the person who is REALLY the best can't play- then imo you're still not the best and you should know it deep down. 12 years old is old enough to either better themselves or get used to the idea that they aren't the best out there. The funny thing is that their parents are acting like the parents of the "bad guy team" in all those kid sports movies that they love so much.
