Look at the last post for solution.

Hello,

I've tried every single troubleshooting method I've come across and I have found no resolution for the error I am encountering. Disabling Windows Firewall, adding the various psu files to my exclusions on NOD32, altering the compatibility tab on the icon, uninstalling Vista Service Pack 1, have all proven unsuccessful. Any asistiance would be wonderful.

Go to the folder you installed PSU to.
Go to folder Gameguard.
Delete everything inside it, then start PSU. It will re-download Gameguard, and that may fix the problem.

No luck with that method. They download, but then I get the same reoccurring error message.

The root of my problems was User Account Control (UAC). Disabling UAC proved successful. NOD32, Windows Defender/Firewall had no relation to this case. The relation of Service Pack 1 to this issue is still unknown.

How to disable User Account Control (UAC): http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm

Thank you for your assistance beatrixkiddo.

i swear that UAC is so bloody pesky. It really is much more trouble than it's worth. Even though it causes a plethora of problems, MS tech support is not allowed to suggest disabling UAC at all. Just thought I'd throw that in.
