I heard back before the GC version came out that the xbox version was gonna have another character. I've also seen screenshots of a hunewm, and I really want to play that character. Anyone know anything?

Interesting picture...But they would'nt add ONE new character, that would throw the balance off, they would have to add one to eachclass

I haven't heard any official about a new character (or any official information at all for that matter). However, down the line..Microsoft could have content downloads that may enable the dormant code for a new character. Dont quote me on that however.

NO NEW CHARACTER. And seriously no offense that character would go against what a Newmn is? a big lugging brute. that's the androids job.

The HUnewm and HUmarl pics you have there are fan art that has been floating around the PSO community for a long time now. Don't expect any new content in the Xbox PSO.

could be fake pictures.

Unless the code for the character is already on the game, dont hold out for a completely new character (It would be a really nasty huge content download).

The only other possibility would be just cosmetic changes to already exsist characters. Meaning, a new hunter character may look different...but it'd have the same characteristics of an already exsisting hunter.

Is that a possibility? Probably if they want to brag about how superior PSOX will be to the gamecube version.

I have seen these pictures before, and as far as I understand it, they were concept drawings of possible characters. I believe there are a few, the ones you see here are HUnewman and HUmarl.

And about that going against everything that a newman is supposed to be... aren't they genetically enginered to be exceptional at what they do? In which case is it so far off the mark to have a brute of a newman for a hunter?

Of course, I could be wrong about these being concept drawings. Its been a while since I've seen them, so I can't remember the context in which I saw them. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Anyway, that's my 2 cents

i thought that Newman were genetically enhanced to be mentally smarter than humans, rather than physically. Which would explain why the newman forces have higher MST, but lower ATP and DFP than the two human forces. i could be wrong but i guess someone with better Phantasy Star knowledge can clear that up.

about the new char? most likely there isnt one. PSO was released in JP back on the 16th of Jan, and no website has mentioned anything about it having a new character in it...well most websites havent mentioned anything at all about the damn game, so there is a slight (although very minimal) chance that there could be a new char. But dont hold your breath.

they were both concept pictures and (to the best of my knowledge) are not going to make an appearance anytime soon.

and i think that newman are genetically engineered to specialise only in the mental department, and as already stated... the brute thing IS the androids job.

Besides... the "duck" HUnewman concept was so much cooler http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

They could put a HUmarl and HUnewm in the hunter class, a RAnewearl and RAnewm in the Ranger Class, and a FOcast and FOcaseal in the Force class. If Sinows are able to cast techs then why shouldn't androids? Just have a fireballs launcher come out of an android's hand when they use foie. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

those are just concept character sketches from the book of hunters. and it's real old.

Microsoft did say the reason for the delay was so they could create more downloadable content/addons for the game.. It's possible that the talked about extra character will be downloadable, along with other new characters/classes/skins/etc. The possibilities are endless.

Several people on GameFAQs already have the import, the extra character is nowhere to be seen, yet.. could be unlockable, could be downloadable (we already know it's patchable and that there will be downloadable content, both free and pay).

HUnewm was the class i wanted before PSO ever came out. Instead i get to play as a blockhead HUmar. The way they run is funny, they run like ogres.
And why does everyone use that big mammoth HUnewm picture. i visited a website along time ago that had another HUnewm picture of a skinnier version. HUnewm is the ultimate class ^__^

Well, since I don't have brodband I skipped on the Live starter kit when it came out earlier this month so I can't verify through playing the game, but I did a skim through Famitsu Xbox last weekend and didn't see anything about an extra character. In fact I saw a blurb that I'm pretty sure said that contentwise the Xbox version is the same as the GC version. That said however, since the Xbox does have a hard drive and MS and Sega have hinted at exclusive content for the Xbox verson, it's not a stretch to say that adding an extra character is possible, but it hasn't happened yet as far as I can tell.

LollipopLolita
Jan 27, 2003, 09:11 AM
exclusive content can mean xbox only weapons, xbox only mags, xbox only quests, xbox only events, yadda yadda.

if they were to add a new character as a downloadable, it;ll be some work, modifying equipable by info for all the items, adding 3d models, sequences, modifying character creation screens and process, bla bla bla.

just realistically, from a business stand point, if i were to add new characters, i'll advertise and market the hell out of it, milk all the money out of it.

I agree completely, it would be difficult and unrealistic to add an extra character via a download; and seeing as I won't be playing PSO on the Xbox anytime soon (Seeing as I lack broadband and have a chipped Xbox) I hope they don't add a new character. I was just saying that given the Xbox's capibilities, it's technically possible. I'm presonally surprised that they didn't do more to make it different from the CG version seeing as I figured that they were hoping that live would increase sales of the Xbox over here so that is wasn't competing with the WonderSwan and PSOne for 4th or 5th place in sales. But it sounds like the only things were missing out on right now on the CG is whatever features Live has plus the promise of some sort of exclusive content someday. Though for the Xbox players I hope they get something, because it sounds like in Japan at least they have to pay for a hunters licence on top of their live subscription.

they could have done more with the pc version too, but it's just a port.

still if i were sonic team, and i had characters to add, i'll put it in a new game, even if it's just a ver 2 kind of deal of ep 1 and 2 and profit even more money from selling the new game.

You guys don't know much about game engines.. something like this would be simple, and nothing in the game would need to be updated. It's just a skin mesh + textures.

bah..i wrote a pretty lengthy paragraph about why its possible, but not probable but its lost in an error some place (thanks Apple and your damn imacs).

Bottom line is this: Lolita is right. Had Microsoft or Sega planned (or plan) major upgrades to gameplay, they'd milk it for all its worth. Lets not forget this is the same Microsoft that was advertising minor Splinter Cell downloads before the game was on the shelf.

Does that mean there wont be xbox exclusive content? No, but I wouldnt go as far as saying things like new characters, levels, or techs will be tossed in. Even at a later date. The code for new seperate entity characters would have to be present when the game is pressed (otherwise, we'd have to be issued new discs since content downloads are just tacked on things like a new map for UC, not major gameplay changes).

Maybe some of the JP folks can help us out here. Is Sega or Microsoft advertising the fact xbox has a hard drive (in regards to PSO, not generally) and can be used for later changes?

if you are refering to the "Perfect Guide" dont get bummed out yet. the only thing that is perfect about the guide is that it is a perfect waste of money! if you had the first guide for DC youd notice that its the same damn guide (which means some char stats are wrong) with maybe 30 pages extra for Ep. II...

i would like to see either the HUnewm or the HUmarl, but most likely they will be in Ep. III or PSO 2

I have xbox pso (import) and there is no new character. in fact, it's exactly the same as GC (at least offline anyway)
the graphics even look the same (but I don't know if i'm a good judge of that)
but the good thing is that xbox works with widescreen TVs, so I can play pso in widescreen ^__^
