I'm not sure, but I think it's when you can have more than one item in the same slot. For example photon drops can be stacked. You can have 99 of them and they only take up one slot in your inventory or storage.

Stacking an item is to have more of an item than the game permits (ie. 115 Photon Drops, 13 Monomates, 25 Star Atomizers, etc). Doing so will cause problems for your game, such as disallowing rare item drops.

just seems like you're being unlucky. i wanted to get a demolition comet having a 1/2 of getting it from a rare lily or slime. ive fought a combined total of 8 rares and had the demolition comet once. there have been numerous other times when its taken WAY longer to get an item then it should so i have officially decided the game hates me!
