Unfourtunatly that pre-order has been up for a bit. I doubt we'll see any news on FF XI until Sony announces the hard drive for the US. EGM has said that it's possible we'll get it but nobody really knows. From what I've read Square doesn't want to run/manage the servers...or something like that. I still would like to see it come stateside though.

they should let SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) run the servers then...

I'm hoping for FF11 to be released in the states. I think it would be fun.

Too bad squaresoft might not release it in the U.S.

Where the Final Fantasy name is, money is to be made. I still think it's entirely possible that it'll be released for the US PS2, but... like we've seen with Nintendo's modems/BBA's and PSO, both Sony and Square are gonna have to work together on this. I really can't see the PS2 hard drive EVER being utilized much in the least with, of course, the exception of FF Online (I really do not care what it's called, naming it FFXI is one of the dumbest things I can imagine http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_argh.gif).

Either way, I've personally lost any interest I used to have in the game. Oh well...

I'm also starting to lose interest in the game. After hearing all the problems FF11 had in Japan it really put my hopes down. If it is released here in the states I won't get it unless some of the flaws are fixed.

I think I might just wait till Final Fantasy X-2 and FF12 are released. FFX was a really good game and I am really looking forward to the sequel. I like Yuna's new look. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

It's not really the server problems that's scaring me off... I deal with that all the time on PSO. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif Really, I'm just not very interested in massively multiplayer online RPGs.
Maybe it'd help if I knew a little more than jack-shit about the game, too. o_O

*cough*The Spirits Within*cough* (sorry, couldn't resist)

I am interested in this game...but I will pass up on the PS2 version. I would much prefer a PC version...especially if you do need to get a hard drive for the PS2 for the game (the Japanese version needed the hard drive to install the Play Online software).

You're forgetting something.

Final Fantasy XI requires a hard drive to be played (patches, new areas, the Play Online software, etc.), and to my knowledge, there are no plans to release a hard drive for the US PS2. I'm thinking that if Final Fantasy XI is released in the US, it will be on PC (which I wouldn't mid at all).

I too have lost practically all my interest in it. Just like PSO(Xbox)it has until April to be released for me to even bother. Star Wars: Galaxies and Knights of the Old Republic are due out that month so my RPG needs will be fullfilled. Hopefully Feb or March holds true for PSO.

I fear that if...IF FF XI comes stateside and the hard-drive is released, Sony will find a way to make sure there are not enough HDs out to meet the demand.

Also I thought The Spirits Within was a decent movie.

That whole 'Square doesn't want to manage servers' bit will probably keep it from ever coming to the ps2. Sure, there's the stupid modem on the ps2, but all games with online support are in the air as to who handles servers. Unfortunately, even the DC had a better online plan. Gamecube's got PSO, and there's most likely not going to be anything else. Xbox has a better version of seganet, for the most part. They centralized their online stuff so that everyone has to pop through their servers. Makes sense. Sony's just retarded for not making some centralized standard for online play/server handling. I didn't buy a network adaptor for my ps2, [side rant: I got it in a giant package I purchased off my university's classifieds because I refuse to pay sony $250 for their stupid console when I saw it for the US equiv. of $200 (new!) in Japan, a year ago.] but I have one, and I can honestly say that the gamecube is making a hell of a lot of smart use of their network adaptor compared to sony.

And ooo, neato, the ps2 net adaptor can use broadband and modem... but if you're using a modem you can't join a game with more than one other modem user. hah hah. So instead of having a unique multiplayer experience in twisted metal online (which I think is the only NA game with network support right now... ?), I can have a unique bot fighting experience in twisted metal online. Now I can play the single player version of the game while blocking incoming phone calls! YAY. And there's no effing chat anywhere, so even if I miraculously had some other modem user join my game, or I joined theirs, I'm not even allowed the pleasure of verbally abusing them when I kick their ass in the game. As Alex from SF3 would say, "WEAK." Or, if he's playing online, he'd say "." http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

So I wouldn't go out and preorder that shit, and I'd save my money from buying a network adaptor (unless you get one for free like me!) because it's a useless piece. At least on the GC PSO I can fumble through the software keyboard and pretend to have conversations with people online. There's some degree of 'online multiplayer fun' to that.

i thought FFX was too straight-forward. with no travelling the world, the game got boring but the storyline was good. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif (auron is cool XD) and FFX-2, people might think that's a mathematical equation... or something... hehe. and with yuna's new outfit and also rikku... come on, they look like hoes! *lol* still, i think yuna is pretty in the outfit (lucky girl) but rikku.... i miss her being the little perky one. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Personally, I could care less about FFX-2. :/ Looks to me like the FF equivalent of DOA:XBV. I'm sure it'll have a little more going for it then the OTHER fanboy-based game, but it really doesn't appeal to me very much. Then again... I didn't even play FF9 or 10 until about a year after their releases, either. Hmmmmm...

Great news! I was rereading my newest issue of PSM the other day and I picked up on some information on the release of FF11 that I had missed. These are the exact words that were in the magazine. This was in issue 68 by the way.

There's still no firm U.S. date for the online-only Final Fantasy X1, but Square Japan recently commented that the game will definitely be hitting these shores. Keep those fingers crossed for a 2003 release!

According to PSM, Square Japan says that Final Fantasy X1 will be released in the U.S. It's not much info on it but at least we know it will be released here in the states.
