View Full Version : Beware of lottery scams(please read)

My father received a check in the mail of $4600 from North American sweepstakes lottery, a name I've never heard of. I decided to Google it and immediately found out it's a scam.

Just a warning out there to anyone who receives something like this. Or if your family/friend receive it let them know immediately. If they try to cash it, they are at a high risk of giving all their personal information and if they do get the money from it, they may end up in jail for cashing a fraud check.

I hope this helps out anyone who is unaware of it. Thank you for your time.

Free money doesn't exist in america. Probably not anywhere else, either. Free money is just damned hard to come by.

Some people out there are easier to deceive then others and cannot resist the temptation of something that sounds too good. Sad but true. It's messed up to see people trying to get scammed.

Some people out there are easier to deceive then others and cannot resist the temptation of something that sounds too good. Sad but true. It's messed up to see people trying to get scammed.
These are the same types of people who think that a flashing banner ad that has a graphic of an error message from a past version of Windows is just being nice and kindly pointing out their virus problem and how to fix it. :/

Haven't you all realized by now, or am I the only one that figured it out, that the lottery ITSELF is the greatest government scam in history? People waste more money on that then anything else in hopes of winning when there's a 1 in 0.00000000000000034235 chance of seeing even a $10 winning ticket? People really are stupid.

yea kent... sadly, thats my dad. haha

perhaps not so much now, but 3 years ago, I was watching him, he was showing me some review online, and one of those ads popped up, and he was like, oh..? and clicked it...

then he was super confused as to why it only took him to another web page instead of fixing his virus problem.. he also only buys e-machines with some belief that even though their cheaper, they work just as well....

Aside from that, I think it should be pointed out that much of the "profit" from the lottery goes towards education, so... win-win, I guess.

My aunt won $100,000 in the lottery last year. And although she spent a lot of money on tickets before she won, I quite promise you she didn't spend THAT much =P


Thanks for the warning Raine, though my family usually ignores things like that anyway.

Of course, now I'm wondering if its possible to still cash it safely - scam the scammers, in a way...

I don't really see how they can get any personal information as long as you don't direct deposit it. Of course, you could always transfer it to a temporary account you don't keep money in, then move it and cancel the account =X
