I got this idea from a friend of mine, who said he hated Techno. How can anyone hate Techno?

I admit I like all types of music because I have a musical background and education but what hits me the most is rap because I've been listening to it since childhood and just like how everyone else feels about music as it just gives them a "unique liking" to it. And just like other people growing up with you listening to it you have something to share with those people too. Common bond I say. I don't see anything wrong with techno. Just super uptempo rhythm electronically sound with lights and smoke if you're at a club or dance or something.

Where's the option for happy hardcore? Two-step? Ambient, trip-hop, speedcore?! ... *checks "techno" anyway* http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif
Techno is only one niche (and underground) genre in the dance music category, but it's become more or less a word with the same meaning as "electronica" in the mainstream... Nowadays, trance, progressive house and drum'n'bass are the dominant forms of club music with techno being quite rare outside the underground scene (where it's still pretty damn uncommon http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif).
And I like that stuff a whole lot, but I'll always enjoy the more underground stuff more. I prefer the more acidic goa trance to cheese-trance (See: modern Paul Oakenfold) and frantic, rave atmosphere of happy hardcore to its homicidal delinquint cousin, hardcore. It's ALL about the happy, happy hardcore. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_hamster.gif

But really, I like a bit of EVERYTHING. There's always exceptions of course, but I like many different styles of music.

Where's EMO?

I'm nerdy and white, my parents are well off, and my new glasses are itching my nose. I need something to whine about other than my depression that girls don't like me and an elf killed me in AD&D, so I'm going to write a piss-&-moan fest about how EMO isn't in that list.

Eh?

Rock is my absolute favorite.

Wouldn't Metal be a a style classified under the Rock genre? After all, it is sometimes referred to as Hard Rock.

...Or did you mean Rock as in Classic Rock?

There is more to "Spiritual" than soft music. I know quite a few bands that if you listened to the music without words, you couldn't tell the difference between them and the metal, rock, techno, and all the others. I just prefer to listen to songs that don't swear every other word, talk about they had sex 25 times last night, or say how they beat their wife/girlfriend while high/drunk. But that's just me.
