I was having some nostalgia tonight so I decided to go back to the days of sega channel and see exactly what had happened to the old cable/cartridge device I played on oh so long ago...

Skipping ahead about 20mins of reading I soon ran into this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Meganet

Which if you read down a bit they say this:

The game selection included Phantasy Star II text adventures, Sonic Eraser (a Sonic the Hedgehog/Columns crossover puzzle game), and a Mahjong title. There were also small games that could be downloaded to the console.

I'm assumeing this game never happened because from my knowledge I have them all. Except I have never in my life until now have heard of such a spinoff.

I guess since it was cancelled for North America it overall never happened or did it and it was JP only?

Edit*

I guess there was a whole page on it. My bad...

Goddamn SEGA was so ahead of it's time. A modem attachment in 1991?! Sheesh!
PSII Text adventure sounds cool. I wish I could have had the same nostalgia for PSII as you had but I didn't actually play PS1,2 and 3 until after I was first introduced to PSO on GC when I was 9. Man that game was so fun. I played for hours offline.
When I was finally able to get a hold of Phantasy Star Collection for GBA I was very excited at first but was later met with disappointment after I realized how boring and difficult PS1, 2, and 3 were. I put most of my effort into PSII, my favorite. Though I remember quitting the game after the part where Nei died. Lol, it was just such a disappointment and the game had gotten soo hard. I just didn't wanna play it anymore. That was I believe, about 4-5 years ago. That GBA game is long gone now, I could download it but I probably wouldn't play it. *sigh*

Sonic Eraser is easy to find. Havn't played it in some time though.

I used to have all of the text adventures, but unfortunately the harddrive they were on has crashed. I need to find a way to recover the data. Unfortunately, I don't know where they are available for download anymore. To my knowledge, only a few of them were translated and available at Naflgin(sp) Ego, but the site went down some time ago.

I played a bit of Nei's and Shir's Adventure - but I never finished them. Those old console adventure games were really pretty horrible in their interface due to the limitations of console controllers. I much preferred the point & click graphic adventures. I think an excellent project would be for someone with some programming knowledge to use to software like Adventure Game Studios (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/) to remake the games into 256 color VGA graphic titles.

There was also a GameGear Phantasy Star Adventure title that took place shortly before PSII, but it wasn't really tied to the games in any significant manner.

To my knowledge, only a few of them were translated and available at Naflgin(sp) Ego, but the site went down some time ago.

That would be Naflign's Ego, and to say that it went down, is to suggest that at one time, it could be properly described as "Up"... Not content with following the normal boolean rules relating to on and off, true and false, Naflign's Ego instead ran the line, forging its own gray area between the two. If someone in the know were to be asked about the state of the site, they'd be rewarded with a definite maybe. Some of the best, obscure Phantasy Star stuff was to be found there. I believe I still have most of his Text Adventure translations (granted, I haven't touched them in years), though Naflign seems to have fallen off of the face of the Earth.

There are more text adventures on the volume 2 disc. There is one text adventure for every playable character in Phantasy Star II, making a grand total of 8.

Ah, so it's a bit of a "Shroddinger's Website" - where the status of it being up or down was held in a state of superposition until one visited it and the wave form collapsed, resulting in either up or down.

As I was cleaning out some old HDD's to set up a RAID array for a friend, I came across a small backup partition I made that has the Games no Kan 1 & 2 ISOs. I'm not sure if they're the complete CD complilations, or just the PSII Text Adventures. I haven't really looked into them. They're untranslated, but if anyone wants them - just let me know.

I also found this little nugget that I thought was lost when "Algol Solar System" went down.

That looks like Toyo Ozaki's work. Did you ever get any of her artbooks?

Nope. Unfortunately, I never got any of the JP exclusive Phantasy Star swag like that.
