lol yea theres been alot of movement around this offseason. jay cutler going to the CHICANO bears means that they have that deep ball of rex grossman with more consistency in a good quarterback, and devin hester is probably going to be seeing alot more action his way... even though i wouldnt call him a GREAT reciever, they dont really have the berrian or muhammed that grossman had in his prime in chicago. i wish hester would just stick to taking returns, it was easier that way. plus, orlando pace may be old but will probably give cutler an extra second to throw, and kevin jones actually is a good runningback, despite his numbers in detroit... he IS prone to injury though, but i'm sure he'll be backing up matt forte. i dont know in-depth yet, after the draft in a couple days, i'll be back in nfl mode full-form.

but the point i'm trying to make with the bears is this: lions will never win the division. if there was ANY chance, it'd be in that sloppy 2008 season. ahhhh my dear boys i hope you can beat the curse this year. the 50 years are up, AND THE CURSE OF BOBBY LAYNE HAS BEEN LIFTED

lol well with the lions... everyone knew stafford for quite some time. but honestly... it took until round 3 to pick up a defensive player(delmas doesnt count), when our defense has been the main problem. when we got pettigrew i said, "alright, sort of an odd pick, but hes the best tight end in the draft. maybe they are trying to load up stafford so hes got a deep threat and a reliable, hard working tight end... like when they drafted 3 wide recievers in the first round in 4 years for harrington to load him with weapons." but no... we followed that pick with louis delmas, a cornerback from western michigan that could have been picked up in the 3rd round if this was a decent drafting class. i don't think they're sticking with the tampa 2 they've been using the past few years with marinelli... so even if they go to a blitz heavy defense and move delmas to safety to be a strong hitting presence in the backfield... if we're planning on making pressure on the qb our main goal, this guy was from a shit conference where it isnt going to prepare him for the nfl in a position where qb reads are a must, and delmas also was noted as having no upper body strength, and hes probably not going to make much of an impact. sort of like when kenoy kennedy was picked up in denver to give some "muscle" to our shit safeties, only to have kennedy get his ankles broken by trying to make an open field tackle to adrian peterson, and was immediately released after the season ended. and they think that this cornerback was better than picking up a defensive end or a linebacker.

all i can say about the lions this year: DISAPPOINTMENT. "its a rebuilding year." well, theres a reason detroit has been called a "renaissance city." we've been under multiple "rebirths" since i've been alive, both with the city and with the lions.

AND LETS SEE HOW THESE CONTINUOUS NEW PLANS ON "REBUILDING" HAVE HELPED MY GREAT CITY OF DETROIT:

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu310/shuttlecock04/renaissance11.jpg
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu310/shuttlecock04/renaissance111.jpg
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu310/shuttlecock04/renaissance1.jpg
http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu310/shuttlecock04/renaissance.jpg

A CITY OF LOST DREAMS AND SLOW, PAINFUL DETERIORATION. every year, we hold out on another hope, another idea that there will be a savior to swoop in and fix the problems. and every year, that dream is destroyed. maybe the whole city should just do what i did, and move out of there before it SUCKS THE LIFE OUT OF YOU. i'm sure when they go back, it will just be rubble. it already looks like pripryat, and pripryat has been vacant for over 20 years.

well i'm starting to go off on a tangent. what i'm trying to say is:

DETROIT LIONS, SUPERBOWL WINNERS 2010

Lol indeed.
Football is an amazing sport. Though, I do find watching it on TV incredibly boring for some reason, playing it is just amazing.
I'm so glad I'm dropping Marching Band next year and getting into High School Football instead.

Spring Football is looking good for me right now. Can't wait until we start facing other schools ^^

Hah im back its been a while since i talked about football on here.

But i agree and disagree with ya on the Lions Blaze. I think Delmas was a good pick, i got to watch him in the bowl game against rice and he was the only player on the field at times that was consistent. What he lacks in experience and strength he makes up for with hard work and character. I think the pettigrew pick was a excellent pick at the time because he is like a pass catching left tackle. And hes a tough kid from the Big 12.

But i agree with all of your points as well i just dont think the lions should be counted out because of not addressing glaring needs, they obviously took the best players on the board that fit with the team which is a safer way to go than reaching for a guy who may fit a need but doesnt pan out.

What did you think about the rest of the draft...any picks stand out to you

May 1, 2009, 12:43 PM
ryno, at first when you said "d-line" i thought that you meant "defensive line," like your cousin actually was a defensive tackle for the jags... which would put the number of asian players in the nfl at a grand total of 4 hahahah

but yea, with delmas, i just dont think he's going to be good. i understand the strategy of wanting him on the team because of his strength of character and consistency, but i really dont see him making an impact when he is only right around 200 pounds and only benched 225 a good like 10 times i think. and yea, upper body strength is not nearly as important as having a solid lower body, but i just dont see him playing the part of a brian dawkins or a john lynch. i brought this up before, but the description of delmas just reminds me exactly of what they said for their reasons for getting kenoy kennedy, just so they could have a "hard-hitting safety in the backfield." and especially given that nfl recievers are just getting taller and carrying more weight, i just dont see him having much effectiveness. plus, he could have been drafted in the 3rd round for us, we could have picked up ray maualuga in the 2nd since stopping the run without putting 7 or 8 in the box has been a big problem with us before as it is, and then began building up a defense that is just god-awful. to tell you the truth, this is the first year i've not had faith in the lions at all... maybe they'll prove me wrong though.

and i was talking to a friend about that too, about pettigrew. but pettigrew also ran a 40 in the same time that matt stafford did lol. but the thing i found most disturbing was the description i've heard of pettigrew; for some reason, i just get weirded out with the amount of emphasis every analyst puts on pettigrew's "soft hands" to the point where it just gets a little disturbing. its like i hear the same thing from everyone: "hes got a great body, hes really tough, really good blocker, big guy... and hes got some really soft hands." it wasnt said just once or twice, but for some odd reason everyone must say: "god damn those hands of pettigrew... jesus they're so soft."

i think the lions were just going for the best possible player on the board, regardless of position. and that works, sometimes, when you can take those great players, and mold your team and philosophy around those players. but the lions dont even know what they're doing. they dont even know a gameplan to build the "best players" off of. but maybe jim schwartz has a plan, who knows. i'm going to trust in schwartz to straighten that out, but jimmy has never coached an offense, he's always been defense, and was the def coordinator for the titans for i think 8 years... up until this year when the titan defense got beefed up, he was never really a major consideration for a head coach job. i just hope he's not doing thinking, "well, i say that we draft the top offensive players and i'll work on the defensive side of the ball so we're not last in the nfl again. hopefully the offense will work itself out." because i dont know, maybe stafford and pettigrew will work good through adversity, or maybe we'll just break them, too.

and the rest of the draft? i dont really want to get into it. it really wasnt a good year. chiefs probably have the most promise with what they've gotten the past two years. i thought lions were going to pick up orakpo a few months ago, but the redskins defense is going to be fucking sick... orakpo and big haynesworth i think are just going to completely shred offensive lines, and it makes me worried about some of my all-time favorite teams that consistently are going to have to face them. cowboys did terrible. raiders were laughably good, picking players that werent even on alot of team's draft boards lolol. i love mike singletary but i think he's getting a little overzealous with michael crabtree when they've got enough problems at qb and should have picked up josh freeman, who i actually think may be pretty good in like 2 years or so. rams still will suck with their pace replacement, seahawks i think are going to be in contention for playoffs again now they filled in the role for an aging julian petersen at outside linebacker and hasselbeck will put in a good year and then he'll probably be done. vikings didnt really make much progress. colts, saints, bengals, eagles, dolphins all didnt make any progress. it was a shit year though so you cant really expect much.

but i have been going on long enough i gotta GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm excited for this season, which is weird.
Ok, Eagles: Picked up a WR, which is something we need. The Eagles have always had solid receivers, but ever since the "drama" with T.O., we haven't had any really good Receivers. I'm hoping this guy will turn out to be the one we've been looking for.

As for LeSean McCoy, the RB, I don't know. I have mixed feelings now.
Brian Westbrook has been in the NFL for 7 seasons now, which means that his career is about halfway, or a bit more, over. I think the Eagles might end up trading him in the next few years if McCoy proves to be the back Reid was looking for.

Onto Defense.

After dawkins and most of the rest/all of our notable defensive players left the team, I really think our team will be weakened a bit. Sure, Samuel and the LT...oh what's his name...forget it. Anyway, they're both great additions, but a lot of our great defensive players are gone now.

I predict an 11-5 season. (No ties this year, you bastards >=U)

For a preseason opener, Kerry Collins felt like he was already picking up from where he was last season in leading Tennessee to the playoffs. As for Vince Young, it's one step at a time before he feels capable of regaining his past form.

Overshadowing Terrell Owens' debut for the Buffalo Bills, the two Titans quarterbacks combined to produce three touchdown drives in a 21-18 win to kick off the NFL's preseason in the Hall of Fame game on Sunday night.

lol yea, footballs the only sport that really gets me going. i enjoy watching other sports, and in person, sometimes i try to hide my enthusiasm for the extent of my love for football, but it just gets the best of me alot of times. it's fun to get other people's opinions and see things from different point of views on something you're so damned passionate about.

but yea, i dont think ravens are going to have the run they had last year. but really, when there was talk of vick going to baltimore a little while ago, i think that if they were to slowly ease vick in and somehow keep flacco as a starter, or just have vick the starter, they'd probably be in the superbowl. vick is too dynamic with the running game that you have to take a chance for a season, regardless of the trouble he's been in. hes got a cannon for an arm, too. not that accurate sometimes but they could make it work

What we learned ...
The Eagles have big plans for Michael Vick: It was an encouraging debut for Vick, who entered the game on the Eagles' second play from scrimmage and completed a shuffle pass to RB LeSean McCoy for 4 yards. Vick made four appearances in the Eagles' second drive, each with a different look. Vick lined up in the shotgun with QB Donovan McNabb wide right, as a receiver in the slot (McNabb faked a screen pass his way and handed off to the running back) and by himself in the shotgun (he completed a 13-yard pass to Hank Baskett). Vick also ran the ball once in a variation of the Wildcat formation, looking hesitant on a 1-yard gain.

It looks like most the standard teams of this decade will be the front runners to beat this year. I am really hoping that the Redskins and Texans take steps to at least make the playoffs after last years debacle of a season.

Vick still looks out of game shape mentally and physically. But once he gets to that level he was at, if he ever gets back there, he will be a monster with McNabb, Jackson, Westbrook, Macklin, and the rest of that team. I just hope the Eagles D will play consistent all throughout the year.

The Colts look like they wont fall off after shuffling the coaching staff. Peyton just needs another receiver to step up or he will throw to Wayne and Clark all day long.

I cant wait for the regular season to start!

I understand what you are saying but I tend to see the preseason only as showing how much value and depth a team has at each position. It is rough to judge a teams full regular season success with so many players who skip out on preseason games or only play half halfheartedly.

If the Redskins regular season just continues how the preseason has been...then the only thing I can do is SMH and hope the Texans at least play good.

[The Colts haven't had a good preseason in the past 5 years but look how good their regular season is...gives us hope]

Though, our new kicker Steve Hauschka worries me. He's no Matt Stover, and he hasn't proven too me that he's a quaility kicker in the league. But we'll see come September 13.

peyton's wife have 8 identical babies, and then eli's... then all of them grow up to be quarterbacks, like their father's fathers, and then have them compete on different teams in the NFL, then peyton's kids will rename the NFL to the PFL, eli's kids's teams will from the PFL and peyton's kids will eliminate all teams who don't have manning kids from the league. the PFL and EFL will do battle yearly, all teams hoping to join the PFL will have to do battle against an all-manning team before given consideration

and i really dont like all the negative feedback i get on romo, every day it has been becoming a chore to keep defending homo the romo. i've wept for him in 06 when he "botched" the hold on gramatica's kick(gramatica could have put up a block on babineaux and made romo a hero) and i am sticking with him now, because i know he has the potential to be too good. and when people say "romo just cant win a playoff game," think about the playoffs...

06- the romo faked a botched snap and attempted to run the ball in from the 2 yard line with 1:10 seconds left to go up by 2 points... mainly because he and everyone else knew that the cowboys defense folded on EVERY drive against matt hasselbeck in the second half, and all hasselbeck had to do was take them 60 yards(which is much simpler than it looks when the cowboys hadnt been able to put pressure on him all night and were going to play a deep protection and get picked apart by little 7 yard throws towards the sideline)... romo was just doing the right thing

07- the giants won the superbowl that year, and if they tore apart the best offense in the league in the patriots, you cant blame romo

08- the eagles hit a late-season pop on top of an already tumultuous year for the cowboys, and the cowboys were just not ready for them... cannot be blamed on romo for that shitstorm. eagles beat giants(this had all stars aligned for a "manning bowl" kind of year)

09- romo wins superbowl

i say that's pretty good for 4 playoff years

romo needs everyone's support

but you're right. romo seems to fit better in a "B list celebrity" category of the nfl... he just doesnt have that superstar look to him... but with TO or not, he's always been deadly at throwing a good deep ball and stretching the field. i mean look at 2007's season, jesus he was just marvelous

The purple hat has been replaced by the pink coat. It brings back memories of 2007.

“It really did feel good today. It felt like the ’07 Jags and the ’07 David Garrard. We want to keep that same feeling,” Garrard said following the Jaguars’ 37-17 win over the visiting Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

The ’07 season was Garrard’s breakout year and he capped it with two late-season wins in Pittsburgh, one of which was the Jaguars’ first and only playoff win in this century. In the first of those two wins, Garrard met with reporters wearing a purple fedora that became quite the fashion statement in NFL circles. Sunday, on breast cancer awareness day, Garrard wore a pink sports coat to his postgame press conference.

His rush of recent play is harkening memories of two years ago. This year’s team is largely different, but the quarterback has looked the same the last two weeks. Gone are the interceptions. All of a sudden, Garrard is the model of efficiency again, as he was in ’07.

David Garrard played solid football today.

special teams is an add-on that you only get once winning the super bowl. brett favre has the ability to use one of the special teams options with the minnesota vikings, and quarterbacks can opt for special teams at any moment in the game. so if tom brady decides to use special teams and have a kickoff, the eli can go ahead and kick a field goal himself or have someone else anointed in special teams to kick the field goal as well. brandon jacobs holds the record for the longest kick in history, going kicking a field goal over 300 yards.

sometimes, teams can use the special teams plays at the same time. there have been times both teams have kicked fieldgoals simultaneously and different sides of the field, much like when both teams have played offense at the same time.

actually, if memory serves me correctly, the superbowl in the 2007 season, the defensive players all never saw the field. tom brady and eli played the entire game the entire time

Dear Redskins,

How do you go from a 17-2 lead to losing in the course of one quarter? What happened to that all star DFENS line we had at the beginning of the season? They must have already packed up to go home, because you're going nowhere this season. I suggest the rest of you polish your helmets and get on the bus back to D.C. as well.

i actually thought redskins were going to make a big splash this year. why dont they just say "fuck it" and put in COLT BRENNAN already? i mean the guy sexually assaulted a woman, dyed his head to look like hawaii, grew dreadlocks to better bond with his samoan receivers, and put up such insane numbers in college that he just LOOKED like an NFL quarterback. i mean shit, it wouldn't hurt. who cares if he played in an obsolete conference. COLT BRENNAN is the future.

and GOOD NEWS TO ALL COWBOYS FANS. with that last game's passer rating(that tony didnt deserve), it boosted his overall rating for the season to 95.86!!! meaning he is in 9th place overall in qb rating for the entire NFL, and if this was 6th grade where you could drop your lowest score(so romo could get rid of that qb rating of 29.6), he would have an overall QB rating of 112.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONLY BEHIND PEYTON MANNING, and manning will probably end up getting the mvp this season, because he's just playing fucking insane.

i'm bringing this up because tony romo is playing horribly this season, so i need to look at the bright side of things. when your team sucks, you look at stats. thats why there's fantasy football.

BlaizeYES
Oct 11, 2009, 05:30 PM
LOOK AT PEYTON MANNING:

manning leads the league in:
-yards(1336)
-average yards per completion(9.8)
-yards per game(334)
-touchdown passes(9)
-passes over 20 yards(18 all together)
-passes over 40 yards(5 all together)
-fewest times sacked(only been sacked TWICE)
-quarterback rating(114.5)
-2nd in the league in 1st down percentage(44.5)
-2nd in completion percentage(%70.8)

so i mean think about it... normally the league's most accurate passer won't dominate the league in passing yards, because they'll have more attempts to compensate for their lack of running game, and being "accurate" doesnt ensure leading the league in touchdowns, and normally will throw shorter, high percentage completion balls, and that'll keep up the passer rating. but i think manning is only going to get better, and STEVE YOUNG better watch his back, because manning will be the only thing left in the record books.

jesus. this is such a good buildup to the grand manning bowl that has only been whispered under the breath of colts and giants fans. tom brady, i swear to god, if you get back into form and fuck this one up for me... i might just end up killing someone from boston. anyone from that DAMN CITY. blow up massachusetts, prevent it from happening again. bury belliCHICK in the bottom of the ocean. the sky is the limit. The Jaguars are 3-3 heading into the bye week, just as they were last year, but that’s where the comparison ends.

“It feels different, a lot different,” coach Jack Del Rio said at his weekly Monday press conference, a day after his team rallied for a 23-20 overtime victory against the winless St. Louis Rams.

What’s so different about this year’s 3-3? It belongs to a young team on the rise. Last year’s 3-3 was followed by eight losses in the final 10 games of the season and an offseason gutting of the roster.

Also, what the hell at amazing Saints comeback.

So week 7 is just about over just waiting on tonights game with Skins and Philly. My prediction, Philly takes it.

Man i go to school in Colorado so unfortunately the Bronocos are all I can watch as they are the local game. From my analysis they do two things really well this year that is a change. They are playing WAY better defense than before and they also dont turn the ball over offensively. Now this is also a result of Kyle Orton playing way better than hes ever played haha.

kevlar_pso
Oct 26, 2009, 01:58 PM
Out of the three undefeated teams, I say that the Colts are the only legit team.

I want to see what the Saints can do when they play a defensive juggernaut. They play a lot of the top ten defenses in the coming weeks which I will keep a close eye on. vs. CAR 11/8 rank 5, vs. NE 11/30 rank 6, @ D.C. 12/6 rank 7, @CAR 1/3 rank 5. Ok, so they destroyed the Giants who still have the #1 defense as far as yards allowed per game. I totally forgot about that. The Saints are legit as well. I had a roommate who was from Louisiana and I would ask him why he was still an Ain'ts fan. l0l Good times, good times.

The Broncos do have the 2nd ranked defense and the 9th ranked offense. I guess I haven't watched any Denver games this year. What is it about the Broncos this year? Nothing really stands out to me as special.

As for my Vikings go, they showed that they can hang with the Champs on Sunday. They very easily showed that they could have won that game. If you turn the ball over you don't deserve to win, I get that. All Day had some amazing plays then there was that kickoff return TD by Harvin. Favre has done a pretty good job this year considering that his protection has been borderline sucky all year. Two 90+ yard turnovers for touchdowns in one quarter? That never happens, but it did and that cost us the game. Why is it that announcers say that our defense has improved when they are not the asset they should be. Sure #69 is awesome and the Williams boys are great, but the D is a liability. If they don't get their act together good luck in the playoffs.

As far as my wife's Redskins go. If they win tonight I will be very surprised. They need a new coach and especially new ownership. At least we will be able to watch them on tv tonight. OH RITE, I HAVE CLASS! That sucks. My wife will have to suffer w/out me. l0l

I'll admit that the first call was bad on the ref's part. Though, on the 4th and inches call, McNabb/the ball wasn't even close to the 1st down marker. In fact, I'll have to say that Reid wasted his challenge/final timeout on that one, because it was so obvious. But, I guess if you don't try, you don't know.

Anyway, you know that Dallas and Philadelphia are both very good teams against each other (enough so that it's almost a stalemate). I mean, they've both been scoring a lot of points the last few weeks, and last night was a low-scoring game. That shows how well those two teams know each other, and makes it interesting.

I disagree. There were mistakes, but I saw an overall improvement both on offense and on defense. They're not quite in top form, but I'd say the Titans have improved as a team. Though I suppose you could attribute ALL of that improvement to the psychology that came with the QB switch.

So many of us have put the guy on the highest of football-coaching pedestals that we didn't know quite how to react when we saw what we saw with 2:08 left on the clock.

Bill the Genius is going for it? Right here? Right now? No way.

one of the greatest regular-season games ever played, the Indianapolis Colts' 35-34 win over the New England Patriots,

That was the initial buzz along press row at Lucas Oil Stadium. Then came an attempt to find a shred of logic in the fact Bill Belichick had called a timeout, summoned his punting unit back to the sidelines, and redirected Tom Brady and the New England offense to the field on fourth-and-2 from the Patriots' 28-yard line while holding a 34-28 lead over the Indianapolis Colts.

Wait, wait. Belichick's not actually going to run a play, we concluded; he's merely looking to draw the Colts' defense offside. Well, that does make sense. Get an anxious Colt defender to jump the gun, pick up 5 free yards, and the game is over.

No, wait. He is running a play. Yes, that's Brady throwing. Yes, that's Kevin Faulk catching the ball ... and being tackled a yard shy of the first-down marker. Yes, that's Peyton Manning to whom a 29-yard journey to the end zone and two minutes to do it have just been gift-wrapped.

And yes, that really was Belichick who just made -- I can't believe I'm about to type this -- one of the all-time goofiest decisions an NFL coach can make. And this is a coach that has a game plan on display in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and is generally regarded as the smartest man in the history of his profession.

Hard as many of us tried, we couldn't figure out exactly what possessed him to go for it and essentially give away a game that his team had played well enough to win.

Brain lock? Senior moment? Insanity? Or maybe, just maybe, it was what several people within the Colts' locker room were mumbling with considerable disdain after their team's 35-34 victory: Arrogance.

The 2009 Jaguars are rapidly becoming one of the fun teams in franchise history, and not just because they’re over-achieving in the won-lost column.

“It’s a good group. It’s a younger group but it’s a more mature group in knowing how to punch a clock and go to work every day. We’re just going to keep the pedal down, keeping grinding and see what we can do. It’s the most fun coaching I’ve had in a long time,” Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said at his Monday press conference, a day after the Jaguars ran their record to 6-4 with a come-from-behind, 18-15 win over the Buffalo Bills.

The Jaguars are tied for the lead in the AFC wild-card race and will, no doubt, watch Monday night’s Tennessee at Houston game to see if the Texans make it a four-way tie in the wild-card race. The Jaguars are currently tied with Denver and Pittsburgh.

And washuguy, the skins should definitely play the back ups right now to get ready for next year.

Yeah the skins have solid players that should get some playing time right now. Fred Davis, Devin Thomas, i think malcolm kelly is gone... But offensivly they'll be playing alot of young guys

Exactly, i don't understand why andy and marty don't make the simple corrections so we can wi games again...

well, if you look at it from the eagles, perspective, they dont really have a run game because brian westbrook's problems, and they don't really have much to fall back on. alot of people say that michael vick running the wildcat offense is just "wasted plays," but vick had i think a 30 yard run out of his wildcat play on sunday. i think that's what the eagles should do: split the time between the two quarterbacks, where mcnabb would usually throw the deep ball and run less, and have vick do those little qb wildcat option plays where he can look downfield at the coverage and decide whether he'll run it or throw a screen to deshaun jackson or another wide reciever of his choice. that way, the opposing defenses will read "run" when vick is in, and vick will be a threat in both the run and passing game, and have more touches on the footbal than he's getting right now

No.

Even though Westbrook's injured, we still have a fine running game in McCoy. It's just the fact that Andy Reid is too much of a passing-whore to use him. And as for Vick, we've only had one succesfull play with him in this season. He has, if I remember correctly, negative passing yards, and very few rushing yards. We are not a wildcat offense, and it is not and will never be an effective way for us to move the football.

and with peyton manning, the last 2 wins weren't that impressive, but i think once they get into the playoffs in a controlled indoor environment, i think they're going to start getting into more of a rhythm. if they can just get 3 more wins, then they will clinch homefield advantage in the playoffs and play on their territory, which definitely favors peyton manning.

the colts arent going to go undefeated. people are looking at the stats of the teams they have coming up and just assume the colts are going to go 16-0... but i guarantee you, much as these 3 teams in the division have done before, at least 2 of the 3 afc south rivals will beat the colts, and the colts will fall to 14-2. the titans with vince young at quarterback is way way wayyyy too much rushing for the colts to handle.. chris johnson is too fast, and the colts' defense isnt that good, they cant stop an explosive team. i think the colts will beat houston, hopefully, but jacksonville will be the other loss to the colts in the afc south, because its another team that can run the ball really good. with peyton manning, its hard to keep him off the field and out of a rhythm, but he doesnt have all too many "bad games"; sooner or later, he's going to be able to put a drive together in the closing minutes of the 4th quarter to seal the win... i think manning is getting as good, or even better, than tom brady in getting points when they're most needed.

cowboys got lucky. i'm pretty sure that teams have taken notice of "romo's november numbers" and how "unstoppable" he is, and they've went ahead and shut down romo almost entirely for half of the month... which means that romo is going to have to get it together, and if anything they are going to have to go with the plan they had in the beginning of the season... waiting until the second half before romo start slinging it left and right to catch up.

and what romo seems to be getting better at the past 3 years is reading defenses and finding blown assignments, even if he isnt the most accurate quarterback... and if protection can hold up, i think they should try going with a no-huddle offense the first 2-3 possessions of the game, because romo is statistically horrible when his team has to catch up and it'd put the defenses in a little more disarray, and i know romo is capable enough to drive consistently down the field when he doesnt let the defenses dictate how he performs and instead lets the defense keep guessing on where he's going. and plus it'd set the tone for marion barber to go in and chew up yards and time of possession after they've gotten an early lead.

oops, i havent posted in weeks before today, and i havent put in my comments on the colts-pats game.

bellichick made the right call by going for it on 4th and 2. when you were watching the game, there was too much momentum by the colts. and aside from that interception of manning in the 4th because it looked like peyton and wayne miscommunicated a route, peyton was taking full advantage of a tired patriots defense. bellichick KNEW that had he punted it, with 2 minutes to go and peyton on his own 20, he'd score a touchdown. manning could do it with 50 seconds late in the game, let alone 2 minutes. it was an inevitability, and bellichick knew that either way, the colts would score again if they had the football. the defense was going to get their shot either way, and had to prevent a TOUCHDOWN, not just a field goal, and they were given 30 yards to stop manning with. if the colts took their time at the line and let the clock wind down after they already got into the redzone, there couldn't have been any difference had manning needed to put an 80 yard drive together instead. the patriot's defense would have given up by the time manning got to the 50, and they probably would have scored a touchdown faster because they'd have felt more of a sense of urgency. had patriots gotten that first down, the game would have been over

But for now, check out his stats. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=12514 Then compare them with Westbrook's. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=3619

Like you said, he's rusty. Kevin Kolb's played solid enough this year that we don't need Vick right now. When he gets back into things, THEN we can try to start using him. But not now.

and mcnabb needs a running game thats more effective than mccoy alone... with many teams in the league with 2 running backs as it is, do you think he can really pick up all the weight if they were to change their philosophy so late in the year?
Of course not. That's way to much to ask for. But he has been doing a pretty good job so far this year, so we should start using him a little more often. (See: Rushing attempts vs pass attempts 2 weeks ago) What we really need is a guy who can punch the ball through on those 3rd and 1 situations and the like. It's really pathetic how often we fail to convert in situations like that. Especially when it's in the redzone.

i mean mcnabb has gotten them this far, if anything is going to work for the eagles in the playoffs now, i think its trick plays and little novelty wildcat formations with a quarterback that has proven himself to be a good passer and a great runner, and he'd help slow defenses down so there can be more deep passes for mcnabb It would be nice, but Vick isn't anywhere near 100% yet so I'd rather just rely on Mcnabb throwing to our great receivers. Judging from how things are going so far I think we'll make the wildcard, but we won't make it deep into the playoffs. Next year if Vick's ready and we pick up a solid back to replace Westbrook (his contract's over at the end of the season, and I wouldn't be surprised if they let him go. I mean he's 30 now) then we should be in great shape.

We'll see.

well, the reason that they arent good in the redzone and on 3rd downs is because they really arent a team that's built on accuracy and consistency, working to complete passes on a shorter field. mcnabb is a big guy and if given good protection, he can fling it to any spot on the field.

and i know vick isn't at 100 percent, but i wouldnt use him on passing downs all that much. he was never the most accurate quarterback anyway. i'd put him on wildcat options, screen passes, and handoffs. the patriots are known for their screen passes to speedy little wes welker, and i think that the eagles could probably try the same. rex grossman's downfall was his short game, just like mcnabb... and vick was great at putting the short game(linebackers and defensive ends) desperately scrambling to catch him, and it does wonders on wearing down a defense. and right now, the eagles are one-dimensional. the great thing with running quarterbacks(even though i hate running quarterbacks) how versatile the quarterback becomes whenever the ball is in his hands. and look through the years of the stats of HBs when they have a "running quarterback"... many will have career years. look at vince young. he's won 4 straight since he began starting again, the gameplan in tennessee has dramatically shifted, and vince young is probably the dumbest player in the nfl lol... and look at chris' numbers since then, it's just disgusting.

but yea, i think thats the only thing that can happen with the eagles. vick taking more snaps, wildcat and regular I plays, to pick up some of the load of the lagging run. vick turned warrick dunn, a running back that was never really THAT good(and was already 30 years old when he got to atlanta), and gave him the best 3 seasons of his career, rushing for 1400 when he was 32 i think. i dont know, i'm not much of a "stats guy"... if you follow stats too close you'll find alot of them lying to you

well, thats the beauty of football. since there are no longer wars where generals will line up with their troops and really feel ALIVE when rushing into the battlefield, football is the closest thing we can get to a replacement for this desire to experience warfare from the comfort of the sideline.

the plays only last from 10-15 seconds, yes, but that's what makes it so exciting. trying a variety of strategies and techniques to counter your opponent's attacks. going to your favorite team's stadium, and watching the entire game closely, analyzing 2 elite teams trying to form a firm grip on the other... watching defenses get worn down slowly, losing speed and trying to maintain composure, capable of being seen as early as the second drive when the game is still scoreless.

experiencing the level of emotion when your team is down by 12 points late in the game, but they have quietly been building momentum through the first 3 quarters and are now starting to slowly control a game that was once out of reach. then when there is only a handful of minutes left in the game, and your team scores a touchdown to shorten the lead by 5 with 4 minutes remaining. and in that moment, it feels as if the stadium roof will soon blow straight off, and everyone watching the game knows the exact same thing: your team's comeback is going to happen by any means necessary, and everything your team has done throughout the game has been in anticipation of this very moment: when a single quick defensive stop will give your team the ball with 2 minutes to go in the game.

and when your defense immediately shreds right through the left tackle and buries the quarterback into the ground, it feels as if you've lost all sanity, as if NOTHING can stop your team, as if they've reached a different level of play that your opponent has yet seen from one of their previous victories. when the enemy has stopped going on the offensive, and now their only hope is to "hold on" to their lead before they unravel and get trampled by the powerful attack that is soon going to overcome them. as your team gets the ball with 1:30 left on the clock on their own 20, the first 25 yard pass completion sends a shiver up your spine and makes you stand to your feet and fills your body with this unmatchable amount of energy, like the first time you jumped off your garage when you were 10 years old and were unscathed. and then, when the the offense goes no-huddle and is staring down the opponent's endzone from midfield, the quarterback prepares to light up the sky with a passing assault while the defense tries desperately to hold their ground as their territory is mere MOMENTS away from being bullrushed by an unstoppable force.

lol jesus i've been talking about this too much. god, i'm getting fired up just thinking about it

if you dont watch football and you're going to start, i would tell you to watch:

I am going to have to agree that what BlaizeYES said was pretty good. However I am not sure if I agree about what teams are exciting so to speak. I agree with Squirrel3D that you should pick a team that interests you the most. I am a Packers fan for example, so there are plenty of other teams out there too.

I have been thinking about the playoff picture lately and I wonder what teams will win the wild cards. The way I see it you have most of the divisions already settled. I think the Colts, Bengals, and Patriots have pretty good holds on their divisions right now assuming one of the later two does not mess up significantly. It seems to me that the Broncos could still win the AFC West, but based on how they have been playing recently (without taking into consideration their win over the Giants) I think the Chargers have a beater shot at it right now. On the NFC side, the Saints, Vikings, and Cardinals seemed to be locked in as division winners currently. Despite how the Cowboys' offense had been against the Packers and Redskins I still think they are a little more consistent than the other teams in the NFC East so if I had to choose today I would pick them to win that division (of course the Eagles still look like they have a shot).

The wild card race seems to be a little less clear. At this point I would pick Green Bay and Philadelphia on the NFC side and Denver and Pittsburgh on the AFC side though. Green Bay obviously has had pretty significant problems on the offensive line and with penalties, but their schedule is not too tough, @Pittsburgh and @Arizona (the last game of the season where they will probably rest their starters for part of the game) are the last major challenges left for them. I do not think the Giants have what it takes right now to get a wild card spot, so I think the Eagles will take the other one (or the Cowboys if the Eagles win the division). Atlanta could still be a factor in the race because they have a schedule somewhat similar to Green Bay's in terms of difficulty (outside of having to play the Saints), but they are going to need to catch up to make it.

Denver, even with its recent losing streak, is not in that bad of a position to get a wild card spot. The team already has seven wins and plays the Colts and the Eagles, but not other playoff minded times really. That being said, if they do collapse, I would watch for the Jaguars to take their place. Pittsburgh has an easier path with Green Bay being the only real playoff contending team left in its schedule if you do not count Baltimore or Miami. Still, for Baltimore to make it they probably would need to beat the Steelers at least once and beat the Packers or beat the Steelers twice. I see both results as unlikely so I think Pittsburgh has the best shot at getting an AFC Wild Card right now outside of Denver.

well, i only said to watch those teams because the i feel that those teams understand the offensive part of the game and would be the best demonstrators of how a team can effectively move the ball and keep the game interesting so someone who is new can figure out how everything works in a goofy sport like football.

but yea, if you like defense, i'd tell you to watch the ravens, or the steelers, because they are normally the best example of a punishing defense. i mean shit, ray lewis killed a man a few years ago and he was acquitted, still plays middle linebacker. lol the guy sort of sets the right "fear" tone for the ravens defense.

heres a few pointers if you're from out of the US and want to understand football:

if anything, try to watch a variety of games and focus on the offensive and defensive strategies of each team. try to understand why they are running the plays they are running, and not just on that given drive. try to look for little cues. of course, they're more than likely going to pass on a 3rd and 17, but you might wonder why a team is continuously running the ball when they arent getting more than 2-3 yards per play. or why they're going with running plays towards the outside and to the sideline instead of just having a halfback shoot straight at the defensive line. everything from the size of the defense, their skill level, their philosophy, injury reports, etc, go into account when choosing plays to expose weaknesses.

and as cliche as the guy is becoming for being "the standard for quarterbacks," watch 1 or 2 colts games so you can watch how PEYTON MANNING plays the quarterback position. you won't find anyone else in the nfl that understands their system, the team philosophy, offensive strategy, and football in general better than manning. other quarterbacks will occasionally call audibles and/or bring a running back down to block on a pass play because they're picking up a blitz on the defense... but peyton manning has gotten sacked only 8 times the entire season. after 10 games, most quarterbacks will get sacked 20-30 times, and that doesnt even count the amount of times excessive pressure is put on the quarterback and they are forced to throw the ball away.

and people will think of a solution, to "put more pressure on peyton manning," and he'll just end up finding the holes left in the defense because they're blitzing, and burn the defense that way. every time he takes to the sideline, you'll see him going through plays, looking at picture stills of every play on their last offensive possession, and discussing the looks he's getting from the defense he faced on the previous drive with his coaches and coordinators.

and he's not even just going to the coaches after a failed drive to make "smalltalk" or to just make himself LOOK like he knows what he's talking about so the team doesnt gang up against them... not like a matt leinhart, a phillip rivers, or many other dumbass quarterbacks that are just "running the plays that are called"... peyton manning is practically a coach in himself. he's the reason they could have a head coach retire and literally not miss a step. even if he's "slowed down" a little bit the past few games, watching peyton manning play is like watching an artist slowly put together a masterpiece.

ok, so maybe i'm overdoing it. but when you look back at this decade, the colts(and patriots) are going to be THE teams that defined the sport, and theres no better representation to begin watching football on than watching two of the top quarterbacks, peyton manning or tom brady.

just dont watch a lions game, or a tampa bay game, or a browns game, see how boring it is, and let that turn you off of football. those are the kind of teams that are so sloppy and shitty that you won't even know what the fuck kind of play they ran on offense because there is no talent and players are constantly forgetting what they're supposed to do. lol and trust me, you will see that alot... theres alot to remember and ALOT of quick thinking that goes into each play, and the teams that are excellent at consistently executing a play are usually the best nfl teams.

just give it time, learn to understand the game by watching and analyzing the objective, how to reach the objective, and different structures, formulas, and philosophies that different coaches have created to reach the objective. and then when the time is right, and you go with your friends to a game, you too will get an adrenaline rush when you are watching the final minutes of an incredible game.

The Jaguars’ 20-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers is a tale of two fourth-down plays: The 49ers converted a fourth-and-one play late in the first half by completing a 30-yard pass; the Jaguars were sacked on a fourth-and-two red-zone play, trailing by 17 points at the start of the fourth quarter.

Yes, it was a tale of two plays, and it was the worst of times both times for the Jaguars.

In what was a matchup of two bold head coaches, Mike Singletary’s players made the plays when it counted the most and Jack Del Rio’s players didn’t. Leading 10-0 just inside the first-half’s two-minute warning, Singletary challenged his players on a fourth and one at the Jaguars’ 47. Quarterback Alex Smith froze the Jags defense with a play-action fake and then pitched a strike to tight end Vernon Davis, who made an over-the-shoulder grab as he looked back into the sun.

what has happened to the nfl? it feels like everything i've ever believed about football was proven wrong.

going into this season, watching the patriots struggle against buffalo, i started to like the patriots, only because i missed having one absolute enemy... i liked them to the point that i was cheering for them. as brady came back into form, i figured the patriots, given their coaching and shrewd management of their roster, would come back to form. the patriots have always had a great ability of getting the most out of their intelligent players for a small amount, always being considered the team that is on the cusp of another super bowl championship. in this decade, they've been a powerhouse, the evil, dominating force that forces opposing teams to put "the new england patriots" as the game that defines a season, to show where they stand among the elite, if they stand there at all.

in a game, sometimes you'll see a team do "everything right and still lose"... whether the coaching decisions were questionable, the big deciding factor in those matches usually boils down to just raw talent and depth in the roster. but against the patriots, it almost always turns into a chess match that transcends talent and understanding of the game.

now, i didnt have the pleasure of seeing the game, when i got home i saw only the final 2 minutes, and then the post game press conferences... although at work, tuesday morning, all day people were coming up to me, and everything just sounded like this:

listen to the postgame press conference after the pats-saints game... and listen to bellichick. when i was watching it, after seeing the score of the game, it felt like that scene in "there will be blood" when daniel plainview is being forced by eli to scream, "i'm a bad father i abandoned my son" in front of the whole church congregation. bellichick said at least 5 times, "they're a better team." and really, i dont think anyone took the saints this seriously up until the patriots game.

and as it's looking, the saints are going to play the rest of their games indoors, up until the superbowl in miami.

is this finally the end of the patriots empire? if the saints are really this good, where do the colts stand

lol yea i did enjoy the ravens-steelers game... dixon played pretty well, given the circumstances. it was still funny to see half of the team after the game basically call roethlesberger "pussy" for not starting, even if it was under the advice of a doctor or a team physician.

and really, when it comes to concussions or any other head injury... things that people cant see, they will assume doesnt exist. like for instance, kurt warner saying that he had a concussion or something, i immediately said, "jesus i hate that guy." well, maybe it was because i already hate kurt warner, but i definitely didnt believe that he had anything wrong with him in the first place... so i could see the whole concussion discussion in the nfl now eventually being pushed under the rug. not because they won't enforce a policy on players, but because the players will eventually feel that the player with the head injury hung them out to dry

Yep, everything went well today for Eagles fans.

So, the Saints managed to hold on...I don't see them as a super-bowl calibur team. They're undefeated and they've beaten some great teams so far, but I don't think they have what it takes to win it all. Drew Brees can only carry them so far.

So here's who I think will make it into the playoffs.

AFC
East - Patriots
North - Bengals
West - Colts
South - Chargers
Wildcard - Broncos & Jaguars

NFC
East - Eagles
North - Vikings
West - Cardinals
South - Saints
Wildcard - Cowboys & Packers

I think the dolphins can win the east... Call me crazy. And i expect no less than NFC championship for us. All those teams in the AFC playoff picture i think we can hang with. The colts would be tough to beat, but i don't think thier defensive backs can hang with our receivers, not for long anyway.

saints arent a superbowl-calibur team but they still have the best chances. i'd honestly say their odds are better than any other team, given their schedule coming up, and it'll probably be a brisk walk to the superbowl.

the cardinals won because they made brett favre beat them passing, which is not what childress got favre for... he wanted him to be able to manage the game, and of course, the cardinals got him rattled and he started fucking up. he didnt do a bad job, but brett favre isnt really a hero anymore. brett favre just has good armor around him, and he's been passing way too much lately, regardless how good he's playing.

same thing basically happened for the cowboys. tony romo was playing very conservative, not taking many chances, but throwing a "good game." he missed some crucial passes, and dallas gave up big plays on special teams and on defense, but giants arent that good and i KNEW cowboys couldnt do it. they will probably still make the playoffs by default, the nfc is really really weak this year. it feels like a bunch of mediocre teams, and thats it

well the patriots even making the playoffs seems to be a little iffy... it could just as easily be the dolphins, but the pats got an easy schedule coming up, mostly.

and the colts, if they have to face the chargers in the playoffs, they will most likely lose i think... and the game that the colts could lose in the regular season is the jaguars. they've lost 2 years in the playoffs to the chargers over the past 4 years, twice during the regular season, and the jaguars have beaten the colts i think 3 times over the past 4 years as well.

and 3 wins in 4 years out of 8 times versing one team doesnt sound like much, but when you take into account that the colts' regular season record since 2006 is 49-11, that means over 1/4th of their losses came from jags since the year they've won the superbowl, and the colts have long been considered "elite," which makes you think... the jags are going to be that unexpected road block for the colts, especially since jacksonville is playing for a playoff spot, the colts will probably go 15-1, and the saints will be undefeated entering the playoffs

The way things have been going in the playoff race seem to be helping the Packers out. If the Eagles win NFC East (which seems pretty likely at this point) then Green Bay will be competing with the Giants and the Cowboys for that last spot. The Giants have two less wins and two more losses than the Packers and Green Bay has the head-to-head advantage over Dallas. So long as the Eagles can stay where they are and the Packers do not lose two of their three next games I think they will probably be the 5th seed in the playoffs on the NFC side. Of course, nothing is certain yet. Still, there is a possibility of a back-to-back game if that happens (Green Bay plays Arizona the last week of the season) which is something I am not that happy about.

It seems kind of strange that the Packers are basically in the NFC East now for all intents and purposes because of the wild card race.

Well Ive concluded after this week of futility that someone other than Dan Snyder needs to own the Redskins. He is like a incompetent Jerry Jones wannabe who cant make coaching/ front office decisions. If Shanahan comes to the Skins I dont really think that will help because our entire roster needs to be GUTTED minus a few spots.

And yes I am still backing Jason Campbell. Just watching him play this year has sold me on him. We may be losing but he is playing his butt off getting sacked and knocked down 10+ times a game while still standing in the pocket trying to make throws. I feel bad for him because hes a way better player than what his team showcases.

My Texans on the other hand desperately need a RUNNING GAME. If we couple a running game with Andre Johnson we would be playoff bound right now.

CHAPTER 15 OF THE 2009 NFL SEASON

BlaizeYES
Dec 28, 2009, 04:50 PM
i'm at a loss of words. colts, what the hell. although one of the greatest moments of fucking up ever recorded... for those of you that didnt see the game, or just have to do circles to understand why the colts lost:

peyton manning gets pulled out in the middle of the 3rd quarter after just scoring another touchdown and taking the lead, 15-10 colts are ahead by 5. then, you see manning talking to some guy named curtis painter on the sideline. painter has been chosen to go into the game for peyton manning. now painter is nervous as hell, and he has right to be... peyton's normal backup jim sorgi is injured... sorgi normally will take the snaps when peyton is on the sideline, usually near the end of the season when they "rest their starters" and they need someone to wrap it up.

painter goes 3 and out, which isnt bad... he threw one pass in the drive, like some quick slant. they punt it, and get the ball back. then, the very next drive, painter fumbles the ball, the ball rolls into the endzone and jets dive on it and somehow took the lead.

it took 8 plays for painter to blow the game filling in for peyton manning. they wanted to "rest their starters", yet keep their offensive line out there to block for some rookie who NEVER played an nfl game in his life... and somehow that's "resting key players." i mean really, they could have given the kid reggie wayne or something to work with, the jets were playing for keeps. instead, that painter kid just feels like he's ruined. one of the most important days in peyton's career

-i'd like to also point out that it's sort of funny, so try to watch nfl replay this week on the nfl channel, it might be on there, it might show painter's facial expressions when he continuously gets wrecked, BOOED BY COLTS FANS, and gets his NFL debut blowing the biggest game he'll ever play in.... holy shit. watch it, and think about that kid lol

Sayara
Dec 28, 2009, 05:58 PM
Then the next day you'll hear he committed suicide?

BlaizeYES
Dec 28, 2009, 08:41 PM
jesus, that really is a possibility. he could commit suicide... even his wikipedia entry contains a little back-handed comment on his professional career:

"Curtis Painter was drafted in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Behind starting quarterback Peyton Manning, Painter is a reserve along with Jim Sorgi. Painter became the second-string quarterback in December 2009 after Sorgi went on injured reserve and Drew Willy was called in as second back-up. Painter made his debut on December 27, 2009, against the New York Jets, throwing an interception and losing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown"

... and that's the farthest he will have ever seen of a professional career.

i'm practicing this thing called empathy, and i thought about that young kid curtis painter while i was at work today:

painter is drafted to the colts 8 months ago. there, he meets a modern legend in peyton manning. i'm sure that painter thought that he could probably learn from peyton, hear some stories, just witness a living legend that will soon eclipse michael jordan when it comes to one player's mastery of an entire sport. the kid goes into the locker room, bright-eyed to be a part of history, one of the most prestigious organizations of the decade... one that stands for excellence.

painter backs up jim sorgi, who backs up peyton manning... so painter hardly even sees peyton manning. painter never thinks he'll actually do anything more than hold a clipboard. hell, i'm sure he didnt care, he is getting a free ride to be a part of something special. painter never really works seriously on football, he can't actually think that his role will ever be to PLAY in a football game, maybe if he's lucky, he'll become a coordinator in 20 years. he's pretty loose, because there is NO WAY in hell that he's ever going to need to hold the weight of the team. they would NEVER put him in a situation that he could ruin.

well, the one season he experiences the nfl, his team is going undefeated. and, 2 games that should just be a breeze ends up exactly the way that it's expected at first... peyton manning scores 2 touchdowns on 2 consecutive drives against the jets, and then suddenly, painter is in the game, having no idea why the fuck he is put in there.

they've talked about benching players before, but peyton manning and others have said before that "it's sort of an unspoken thing"... they don't really discuss manning EVER being benched. so painter still goes through practice, thinking he's never seeing the game.

painter is from illinois, went to highschool in indiana, went to college in indiana, and now he's playing pro football in indiana. he's playing for the same team he's rooted for his whole life.

now painter, the thrill of stepping onto his home field in front of his own neighbors, his own city, his own society, and playing for HIS STATE... ANYONE would want to feel that for a second, even if for just a single play.

but i think ANY person would want it under different circumstances. this wasnt painter going in to perform a comeback, to give a good gunfight.... when peyton manning was FORCED out of the game, curtis painter had ONLY ONE mission objective before him:

DONT. FUCK. UP.

so you see him wide-eyed, trying to rally himself, saying, "come on curt, you can do this. dont let down the home fans. just please, dont fumble it or do something stupid and give the jets a touchdown. lets just play smart football. please god, dont make me pass the ball."

the second painter first walked onto the field, he was booed SO LOUD by his hometown fans... the home team was booing home team painter being out on the field. and this was deafening loud, i really dont even think he could hear his own snap count. the jets couldnt score at first, they were stopped twice, and they needed a touchdown.

now, painter just has to keep handing the ball off... they arent playing catch up, they are ahead by 5, and they just need to HOLD ON for a quarter and a half due to shoddy coaching decisions. and then, he fumbles it, jets score a touchdown off of his fumble, and now the colts are down, and never catch back up.

and the funniest part, although the fumble was hilarious too, was that they kept putting painter out there. the embarrassment, the ridicule, of what happened wasnt going unnoticed... the boos were just getting louder every time he took the field.

the colt's perfect season(only happening twice in history by 2 of history's greatest teams EVER) through history will show the quarterback that blew the shoe-in game, tainted the legacy of an organization, and could have possibly led to implosion of the colts in the playoffs and cause them to lose the super bowl due to the loss of morale, enthusiasm, and perfection... AND THE NAME OF THAT QUARTERBACK WILL BE CURTIS PAINTER.

that's what you get for playing highschool ball, college ball, and pro ball in the SAME PLACE: the owners that drafted you will make sure that they ruin your name, your legacy, for generations to come. people in indiana 10 years from now will be saying "pulled a painter" when someone fucks up... like the movie "kingpin". but worse

Squirrel3D
Dec 28, 2009, 10:35 PM
This is why I hate it when they pull their starters in the last few games just because they have a winning record. To steal a line from Herm Edwards, you play to win the game. You don't pull starters just because you have a garandamnteed playoff spot. You keep playing with them and win your games.

And that's why the Colts lost their first game of the year. These coaches need to stop this crap with the pulling starters when the team has a playoff spot.

BlaizeYES
Jan 1, 2010, 03:04 PM
yea, i know. it's an outdated practice... it's the conservative decisions like pulling starters that makes you lose against bold coaches like belichick... and i still think that the patriots are going to make some serious noise since it seems like they've been flying under the radar since the saints loss... hell, maybe them losing to the saints was the best thing for them because they're being underrated.

and i've heard at least 40 times about the colts thing: "well, what would you more upset over... a perfect season loss or an injured peyton manning?" i'm sure that question convinced people back in the 70s,80s, and 90s(especially seeing madmen quarterbacks like steve young that had no regard for his own health);

but the fact is that peyton manning gets sacked less than once per game. and it isnt like he's rushed in the pocket. his throws are rushed probably 5 times in a game, and when you watch him get rid of the ball when he is rushed, manning is never tackled, and he'll go down himself before taking a big hit if he knows there is no other option. to me, it seems more like an ownership decision to take out peyton manning than just a plain "rational" decision.

plus, teams that shouldnt make the playoffs(JETS, no offense) will make the playoffs when their season comes down to the final games against teams that are resting players. and if history has shown us, it'd be a tough defensive and rushing team like the jets to fuck up the playoffs for everyone else

Pballer42
Jan 2, 2010, 05:41 PM
But then some of those teams rest players because they feel theyve earned it. I dont believe that bullshit though my thing is imagine your the Chargers and you can sit players and let a team like Houston beat you to get in the playoffs or play your starters and have to play Balitmore instead in the first round. Lol Id take playing the the former team over the latter every time because its a way easier matchup.

BlaizeYES
Jan 4, 2010, 10:16 PM
well, i guess seeing as this year so many teams have been effected by the resting of players and it's altered history already, the commissioner is going to "look into it and come up with a solution"... probably hear about it this summer or something, who knows.

but this is the funniest thing i've ever seen... 3 teams that JUST versed each other have to play each other again as soon as the playoffs start... and aside from the cowboys and eagles, none of them are division rivals, its just incredible it worked out like that.

but i think its going to work out horribly for the cowboys and packers... both will lose the second time around, if they stick with the same game plan(i dont really watch packers, cowboys are one-dimensional). i'd like colts and cowboys in the superbowl. peyton needs one more to be considered as "the greatest quarterback ever", and back in 2006 when i thought one superbowl would shut that shit up about peyton "not being able to win the big one," but i'd rather tony homo just win a superbowl so people would actually say, for once, that he is GOOD... i blame it on the racists since tony romo is half hispanic, they are racist end of story

You know I got into a discussion with my boss the other day about Tom Brady and Peyton Manning he was telling me P. Manning was one of the greatest QB's currently playing and I rebutted with Tom Brady is better. Words where exchanged, bets where placed, beers are on the line and somehow the conversation shifted to weather or not The Saints would go father then the Vikings.

i'd say tom brady is better with a team. he's excellent in understanding the game and using his offense, but he still relies on bellichick and the top brass for his orders... he can handle the game within the limits of the offensive setup he's given. peyton manning's "offensive setup" is defined more by peyton manning than it is the coaches and coordinators... he changes plays, routes, and assignments of players CONSTANTLY given the defense he's presented with... so he's less limited in his artwork in redesigning entire plays on the fly to make them work.

but really, if i was a player in the NFL, i think i'd rather be on tom brady's team than peyton manning's. peyton manning is fun to watch, but he's a control freak. and when you watch the colts players when any one of them will make a mistake during the game, the camera almost IMMEDIATELY switches to manning's face so people can see what HE feels about it. i've seen 5 times more peyton manning than i've seen jim caldwell this season in "coach cam" situations. being on a team with peyton manning would be like having the boss of your work micromanage you constantly and you needing to be on edge so you dont fuck up. but i guess when you move an offense like peyton manning, everyone needs to be jacked up through the whole game

hopefully, vikings and saints will get eliminated in the same round... but i'd say vikings have the best chance of going farther in the playoffs than the divisional round

that is the playoff picture... brought to you by SEARS. thats how it looks starting next week

then the following week in divisionals:

then in conference championships:

AND IN THE SUPERBOWL:

AND THE WINNER OF SUPER BOWL XLIV:

RRRRRNGH YES. i'd much rather see tony romo win the super bowl, but i think this is the colts' second year to win it.

and cowboys would play the vikings instead of the saints, because the cowboys locked in the #3 seed by beating the eagles... if the eagles win, they will play the saints since they are now #6 seed, and then the packers or cards would play the vikings. basically, in the NFC, it all boils down to how the cowboys play

What is this, I don't even.

You're telling me the Jets are gonna beat the Bengals again? and Personally I'm hoping Greenbay beats Arizona so they can face off against the Vikings again and give Favre a good wave goodbye.

Colts or chargers and green bay in the super bowl? thats my prediction.
becuase the vikings and saints were starting to do bad at the end of the season.

lol YES, i really do think that new york will take care of cincinnati... maybe it's just a gut feeling, but i've watched the jets play a few times and they just seem like they can beat a bengals team that literally seems like it has the EXACT same gameplan... only the jets are good everywhere but quarterback it seems lol. and plus, bengals havent really proven themselves outside of their division for being a very formidable team. it seems like they're winning when they havent really had much of a solid identity, like "the bengals of old" 3 years ago.

i just dont know about green bay, mainly because arizona wasnt really playing for anything. plus i think that green bay showed arizona everything that they are going to throw at them next week, and ken whisenhunt will have a plan by then to stall them.

its just odd, 3 of the games next week are literally going to seem like reruns, but i am just curious how those 3 games are going to go, because it seems like it's just too easy to expect all the teams that lost last week will win this week.

that baltimore/new england game, i think i might change my mind on...

-tom brady has a broken rib and a finger, i havent heard which hand.
-wes welker is out with a torn ACL, done for the year
-last time that everyone was talking about brady's broken ribs, he wasnt throwing to moss as much because he couldnt throw the ball deep and was just making short, quick-release throws to protect himself

so ravens might have it, maybe

lol, you know, if the packers just shoot out of nowhere and go to the superbowl, i literally dont know what to think of the NFL anymore. the cowboys have been playing some incredible football, and vikings have been playing good too the past 2 games and might go on a run for it...

but yes, saints are done, hopefully fizzled out. i guess that patriots game may have been too much for them. i dont think they were ready to get a price put on their head to be beaten

I'm looking for my eagles to make a huge bounce back. From what i heard the guys are pretty upbeat and arn't worried about last weeks debacle... As long as we play eagles football, we'll be ok. But alot is going to ride on sean mcdearmont and the mcdefense. I think they took notes and will be ready for romo and the boys...

YES. YES.

i predicted the steelers in the superbowl in 2006 during the last game of their season in detroit, the colts in 2007, and the giants beating green bay in the nfc championship of 2008(didnt "feel" new york beating the patriots but was hoping). last year's playoffs were an off year for me. LET US PRAY THAT ALL OF MY PREDICTIONS COME TRUE. I MUST BE AN INDIGO GIRL(CHILD)

lol, the jets i had a hunch about... same with the cardinals, and everyone was calling me crazy at work for picking them to win, but i know i'm going to hear it tomorrow for being wrong about the ravens game; it should still work out pretty smoothly through the playoffs.

and yes, colts or cowboys, HOPEfully

Fucking amazing game in Arizona. Receivers and Quarterbacks for both teams where totally in the zones. I had a feeling it was gonna be close but man, this blew my expectations. Arizona was my favorite and I think they're still gonna surprise people. I wish Larry Fitzgerald was on my team. He's one of my favorite receivers in the NFL today.

Also touching on Patriots loss, it's kinda no surprise they lost. Their top receivers where out, and I'm pretty sure Tom Brady was playing hurt. As I recall he had injured his rib and his knee or ankle I think was acting up. Oh well.

lol yea i know, i was iffy before about the patriots last week because brady has been frail all season, but hopefully it doesnt mess up everything for everyone, seeing as now the ravens are playing the colts instead of the jets. shit, hopefully

My predictions for the super bowl are

COLTS and VIKINGS

why?

because Favre is too good.

and Manning can still pull it off with wins with his team.
