I took this picture this morning before squashing it. It's a baby spider measuring half an inch.

Two weeks ago I was bitten during sleep on my hand. The pain wasn't really bad, just annoying... but I'm curious to know if this was the fucker (or one of its kin) behind the bite. Why would you even THINK of biting me?! You know I'll find you and fuck you up.

So anyone got any clues?

Bad news: It's a radioactive spider.

Good news: You're going to become Spiderman.

I don't know what it is, looks neat though.

If you were bitten, you probably either rolled over onto the offending spide, or you were trying to brush it away, and succeeded in scaring it.

In answer to the idea that this is the spide that chowed upon you, it may be, if you like, found it in a web over or around your bedding. Otherwise, it's spider season, so get used to seeing them.

If you didn't have any major reaction to the bite, you don't have to worry about this one. It looks like a garden spider of some variety to me.

Nah I don't think that sucker is dangerous at all. Odd how a picture of a soon to be dead spider made me grab my slipper. Yea, I got arachnophobia. I freaking hate those 8-legged hell spawn.

Thanks, that helped quite a bit.

The markings are strikingly similar, so I did a search on google and found this pic, along with a description.

from Dr. John A. Jackman, Professor and Extension Entomologist, Department of Entomology: "That is a cobweb spider in the family Theridiidae. The genus on that one is probably Steatoda. They are common in homes and are considered harmless to humans. See: http://insects.tamu.edu/extension/bulletins/l-1787.html "[/spoiler-box]

For the good of all mankind, I'm just gonna go ahead and call this one a Shop. True or not, it's better than living in a world where such beasts multiply unchecked.

Actually I live in Ontario which is why I was surprised because I've never seen this kind of spider before, ever. I have seen a female Black Widow which lived outside my kitchen window when I lived in Ottawa. We didn't kill it because it caught/killed a lot of pesky insects, and never left its web.

Maybe there's a small number of Steadota in the east coast of Canada too.

I cannot stand spiders, even the little ones, but I think scorpions are cute. Some arachnophobic I am.

Doesn't really bother me, even though I hate spiders. If I see one in real life, however...it will be a different story.

Aiieeee Spiders!

But honestly, the cool thing about them is that they get rid of whatever other bugs are floating around the area.

I still get rid of them if I find them though, I don't like the idea of trying to sleep if one is nearby.

Be glad you don't live in Australia. And, yes, that is a Golden Orb Spider (some variant of it anyway, there are several species) and... yes that is really what they eat occasionally. Look it up if you don't believe it.

Thankfully, I rather like spiders. But, then, I hate the insects they eat so that may very well be part of it.

I never understood arachnophobia. Yes, I have a healthy respect for spiders. I keep my distance if they keep theirs. But fear? Why would I? I know what those things eat. They can keep a residence in my household any day of the year as long as they take care of their own food problems.

Of course, once they start eating things larger than my thumb, I'm going to have to call it. There's no reason for an arthropod to eat something more complex than itself.

ive seen a spider like op's. however it was smaller, instead of gold markings it had bright orange, and was crawling outside my driver door gah!
I used to have no fear of spiders... till i had a nightmare about being attack by them, and woke up stareing at a spider starting at me while standing on the pillow next to me. ow man did i freak out.

TC, it's a recluse spider, and you're done for.

Nah, I don't what it is. Just be careful if you come across one, as you don't know what it may carry. I don't mess with spiders for this reason, and glad I rarely see them.
