When a mob hits you physically, be a smack a rush or a peck, are these normal attacks affected by the monsters element? If a booma hits me with its paw, does this count as the ice element? would wearing Ice armor reduce this damage?

Yes, regular attacks will be of whatever element the enemy is labeled as. So for example ice armor will reduce damage from the normal attacks of ice enemies, and so forth.

What can make things tricky, though, is when an enemy uses technic attacks that are of a different (sometimes even opposite) element than the enemy is. One example would be fire Vanda Merhas using Diga. The Vanda's regular attacks would be fire element, but the Diga would still be ground element. So in some cases you might want to prepare for technic attacks as well as usual ones.

An even better example is the normal Jarbas you find in V1 missions and the event. They are fire elemental, and if they punch you'll take fire damage, but by wearing a fire armor you make it far easier for them to kill you with their Dambarta attack. That's why it's such a pain for melee to fight them head on.

If you are using high % armors a Jarba will provably pawn you with dambarta in two hits if you are fighting him with fire elemental armor xD

The Technik the enemy uses can be the element of the technik or the same element of the enemy, if you can dodge an enemy technik then ist's not a technik, but a skill, and it has the enemy's element (example: Ground Vanda Orga's Damufoie deal ground damage, not fire)
