Well. That sucks. I just installed and Win7 is all I'm currently running. My XP dual boot died a few days back. Guess I'm going to have to reninstall XP to play PSU. That sucks. Its all GameGuards fault too.

DAMN YOU GAME GUARD.

I got it to run... without sound. This was during the beta though. It might work with the RC without problems...?

Currently using it with RC1. I've had to set gameguard.des to read only using NTFS security. It stops it being over-written, it seems the original from the disc is the only one that works properly.

It also depends on you not fucking up DirectX which is easy to do with the RC, only update DirectX from the Microsoft web updater to re-install DX9 components.

Excuse me.

But, have you check 'Microsoft Technet' or any related places in reguard od installing 'Windows 7'

To run PSU on Windows 7 at the current state is almost.... well! you know now.

I suggest, You double check again. To run a dual boot (Partied HD) is not highly recomaned.

PSU runs completely 100% fine, anyone else telling you didn't do any research. Both me and my sisters computers run it fine. For it to work, you install PSU normally, update Direct X like you do anywhere else. If you are running a 64 bit version of Win7, you need this file from this site:

http://forgottenportal.com/downloadpage?task=view.download&cid=81

That link is perfectly safe, its a link I got from wikipedia.org and have used myself and scanned the file with both Kaspersky and Norton 2009 IS.

If you have an ancient computer, don't even try to update to Win7 and then try to blame MS, its your fault. They have a compatibility tool to check this information and they even warn you about upgrading older computers that will likely have no drivers for them.

Here's a quick guide for those who need it:

Note that it says it's for the beta (build 7000), HOWEVER, the exact same process works for the Release Candidate (build 7100).
There's also a thread about this on the official boards.

Windows 7 is still Vista so if PSU isn't running it's probably merely due to bugs in the beta builds. It'll work fine after release I'm sure.

Doesn't Windows 7 have a Windows XP emulator for such reasons? If it does, I'd say use that.

GameGuard rootkits the OS and modifies system files specifically. So it's very OS-dependant, I'm not sure what is in the original files that make them work. But emulation or compatibility wizards won't work. The original gameguard.des does it seems.

Well technically Game Guard is a trojan/rootkit that bypasses system security in an attempt to one-up cheaters by scanning for their cheats. It wouldn't be surprising if it breaks a new OS till it's updated.
