I don't have the money right now for a subscription based game and I already packed up all my PS2 games (I'm moving) so I'm looking for a new free to play MMO to play. I tried Perfect World, and liked it for a while. I'm bored of it now, though.
I'm looking for one with a deep character customization (face AND body), a more action/arcade style battle system (not like WOW), and less time consuming goals. Either an action game or actionRPG.
Anybody have any suggestions?
3D or 2D are both OK!
Maple Story(yuck!) is out of the question, as is Mabinogi (it won't run on my computer) and I've already tried MegaTen Online.
thanks for the help in advance!

You're asking for too much in a free game. Especially with customization. If you're gonna play a free game, bring your expectations down a couple notches.

As for recommendations, I honestly can't think of anything. Actiony? Hmm. You could try GunZ if you're really desperate, or try playing S4. Or PSOBB, on a private server.

Lol I would say try Neopets but idk how old you are ><
Believe it or not when i was little i thought neopets was stupid until i did it but i guess i matured and grew out of it....only took a couple of months :P

When im bored i attempt to make a map for free ride

No one should play Neopets, no matter how old they are.

PSOBB, or S4.

The first is nostalgia mixed with solid gameplay.

The second is just high-speed fps mayhem.

Read a book!

I am all out of books! Actually, all my books are packed too.
Also, Free Realms and NeoPets are also a NoNo. I'm terribly sick of seeing that tripe everywhere.

Ok, so, toning down the customization requirement; it has to let me change my characters hair. I guess. and height? Ok, nevermind. I guess any level of customization is fine, as long as it's there.

Also, PSO has been with me off and on since it's release. I'm not sure I can get any more than nastalgia out of it anymore.

So far, thanks for the help guys. Keep them coming if you have more suggestions!

More or less, yeah.

If you have a high tolerance for utter crap there are plenty of things out there. For example, Neo Steam (http://neosteam.atlusonline.com/) which only bears mentioning for sake of its steampunk setting - though the gameplay mechanics fail pretty hard in my opinion (but so do those of basically all free-to-play MMOs). Except for maybe Dungeon Fighter Online (http://dungeonfighter.nexon.net/), which hasn't seen a stateside release yet, but that's not MMO, either.

But, you know, you asked for free, so... :/

My tolerance for crap is actually fairly high. I got all the endings in Shadow the Hedgehog, after all. If I like the setting, I'll be ok, and steampunk is always totally sweet. It's just that it looks like every other "click on this monster and watch your character swing away" MMO. I guess that's just how these games work *sigh*.
Dungeon Fighter looks nice, but it dosn't look like you can make a character.

I guess I've come to the conclusion that the world of free MMOs make me sad. I should've realised what an unpleasant road to travel it would be.

Hey, he/she said they've got a high tolerance for crap, and that's pretty friggin' high on the crap meter.

Yeah, that does sound like what I'm looking for. Waiting for the new monster hunter is killing me. I don't have a PSP so I've been playing the first forever. I still can't beat the Rathalos, though (lame, I know!). Sooooo want Tri.

I used to play Ragnarok a looooong time ago. Back when I still had 56k. I had to have a friend download it for me, haha.

Well, I was going to quit searching, but I'll take a look here. 'Cept for Free Realms. I actually downloaded MegaTen again last night. I also unistaled it again last night. It was cool and everything, but I can't get back into it.
Thanks for taking the time to post your findings and links! I appreciate the effort you've put into this.

You should definitely play Ragnarok Online, it's such a great game ^________^

Like I said, I tried Ragnarok a loooooooong time ago. I liked it, but didn't get very far. I was a theif, almost asssasin. I didn't want o be an assasin, though! (I liked the theif's outfit too much).
I heard there was a Ragnarok Online 2 in the works. With music by Yoko Shimomura! What ever happened to that?
I actually started S4 League yesterday. I'm really enjoying it, but I don't know if it has lasting potential. Plus, it runs like dogpoop on my computer.

Ragnarok Online 2 is Korean Only, Gravity, or whoever runs it now will not release it for International Play, I think its because of what happened with APE in Ragnarok Online, sadly that didn't stop people from doing it to RO2

I actually bought that a long time ago when I saw it at the store for $5. Then I never played it...

I just started playing 9dragons.

Just seems like a generic MMORPG where you fight mobs, bosses and have PVP. What I like though is that, it's one big land with many different clans in ancient China.

Right now, I'm in the league of beggars and I use drunken boxing style kung-fu to fight. Or with staffs. In accordance to kung fu skills there is a lot and its quite complicated, so I'm not sure how to explain it yet.

I've been dicking around with a game called Dragonica. Pretty fun. Take everything right with Maplestory (not much), and give it a beat-em-up turn around.

9Dragons looks cool. I'm kinda into that sort of setting.
Dragonica seems interesting, but how if the character creation?
Now that I think of it, what ever happened to Shenmue Online? Is it available to English-speakers? If it is, I'll be on that like a super-model on a laxative.

I am sorry to take this off the rails a little but what is so great about Character Creation. 99% of the time during the course of the game your armor covers up what you created.

Only time I can remember when Character Creation actually matters is in Cov/Coh and maybe AoC.

The only free online MMOs I came across worth mentioning were Runes of Magic and another one I haven't seen mentioned yet: Requiem Bloodymare.

The game is pretty dark, and gory. The character design ranges from really creepy, to badass, to typical. It's semi active combat, you assign skills to your bar and slam on them accordingly. Really it's just an action game with a rpg grind. It's got some nice combat options, pretty challenging gameplay sometimes. I really enjoyed it when I got to play, but it's fairly demanding of my old computer so I only hop on every now and then, since the game lags me up a bit.

I played a Defender, I like the combat animations - the "Rush" mechanic, which is similar to WoWs warrior Charge. Cept' Sword and Board isn't a defensive thing, you actually use it to attack more it seems.

Don't be an ass and just assume the game is a "clicker" you use WASD to move and it has a physics engine that allows for sliding down hills, knockback, juggles etc.

In offline games, you play as one character. Everybody who plays, plays this character. He/she is everybody's character.
In online games there are thousands of characters. Everbody plays a different character, their own character.
So, basically, I want my character to be mine and mine alone.

Also! Icespike! Bloodymare looks friggin' awesome! It's just too bad that my laptop will most likely have none of that. I think all I would do is laaaaaaag.

UPDATE!:I tried Bloodymare. It told me "no", though, due to something about a "pixel shader". I figured as much!

Icespike is right though. Very few MMOs allow you to create a character that really looks like an individual, especially free ones.

Also, update your graphics card drivers.
