|337 is formed most commonly from people who try and type too fast and end up making the same spelling mistakes over and over again. "pwns" is spelt with a "p" because the "o" and "p" keys are so close together. Some people spell "the", "teh" just because they try to type too quickly and lose the sequence of hitting the proper keys.

If you've ever seen someone new to chats and typing, you've no doubt seen |337 first hand. Most people use it in jest, like "OMG! OMG! Teh monkey got pwned!!1! Wut a bitxh!!1"
