Got the game on the 30th of June and it's definitely awesome. :D

Waiting on my copy to arrive from Amazon =/. I did see you and Cracka J playing it, bastards haha. This is like the greatest year for fighting games EVER.

I pre-ordered from Amazon as well... but then the 30th came and they were like "JULY 2ND DELIVERY DATE" and I said "Eff that!!"

Went to Gamestop at lunch, bought it, cancelled my Amazon order.

All editions coming out are the Limited Edition, so there was nothing lost from buying from Gamestop... well... 'cept an extra $5 compared to Amazon's price. But I got the game on time!

I preordered mine at Gamestop...never got the artbook for some reason though.

Lovin the soundtrack, one of the best I've heard in a long time.

Unlike Street Fighter 4, I am not disappointed in BB.

it's one of the worst 2-d fighting games ever created. worst character designs since
Jojo's Bizzare adventure. and really boring fighting system with abusable loops.

the only good side to it is that the online play is better than SFIV. but such a small and
dull roster of 12 characters leads to a lot of repeated match ups. (especially considering
most will be using the top favorites instead of the others.)

Can't really support in terms of character design much since it's quite obvious how much of a GG rehash the characters are, but the fighting system in my opinion is far from boring. 12 Fighters isn't an issue to me, bear in mind SF4 in the arcade only had 17 selectable fighters, and most people I've seen use the Ryu, Ken, Akuma, E.Honda and Sagat, repeated matches around here are quite common.

To be honest, I've only seen problems with Rachel and Arakune, but I'm sure Rachel won't be as top tier once people figure out how to get past the little game she puts on.

Have you ever played Guilty Gear Saner? Its about the same thing, or did you hate that too?

its Guilty Gear at half speed. Not bad just too slow for me. Sorry i'd stick with SF4 and GGXXAC

I owned GGX (Dreamcast import),GGXX (PS2) and was even crazy enough to buy GGXXReload (xbox originals). I got sick of that series and I'm not liking how BB looks or plays,
the characters look like a bunch of Darkstalkers rejects.
at least Guilty Gear had likeable characters.

but anyways its just an opinion. :p

Jojo's Bizzare adventure. Can't speak for that one. Never played that.
and really boring fighting system with abusable loops. I'd actually have to agree, three buttons and an eye candy button is kind of lame for a fighting game. Barrier bursts? What's that, a button to block? Seriously?

but such a small and
dull roster of 12 characters leads to a lot of repeated match ups. (especially considering
most will be using the top favorites instead of the others.)Well yeah, people mostly play the strongest characters or the cheapest characters. Only a few people take time to learn the hard or weak ones and make them deadly. Those are the true players. Small rosters aren't that bad, considering a lot of rosters had "palette swapped" movesets anyways, with a couple of tweaks. Smaller rosters mean there's more eye candy or more unique moves. Like that shadow thing. >_>

I'd like to try this game out, looks like it'd be fun.

I like how the video review was for Xbox, and when they chose to go online, it said connect to Playstation Network. Good job IGN.

Only thing I can say, is it feels like GG, looks smooth, needs a larger roster.

So what exactly does this game do to push the 2D fighting genre forward?

Nitro Vordex
Jul 3, 2009, 02:11 AM
In terms of 2D fighting, there really isn't much else to do, besides make them look even better. Considering the buttons are kinda...simplified and most game are used with joysticks, traditional 2D fighting seems to be fading. It's still around, but it's a back burner idea.

Street Fighter and the like are exempt of course.

I'm actually shocked that Saner isn't gaga over a game, SANER IS GAGA FOR ALL GAMES!

I've tried it, its okay... I suck at all fighting games as well as all my friends, so we just have fun with it.

Well, there's plenty that could be done, but I get the feeling that developers of 2D fighting games don't like to try new things.

Well, because each time they do, some of the fanbase whines. It's nearly impossible to satisfy every 2D fighting game fan out there all at once. This is the message I get when one of the top fighting game franchises trims and rolls back it's gameplay to something very similair to a previous game in the series and then get's great reviews and reception from the fans.

But this is the very reason I hated Street Fighter 4. It's a rollback to everything I grew to not like about previous games in the series. Then again, I'm someone who got spoiled on Capcom vs games.

I say these fighting developers should start making side scrolling beat'em ups prettier. it's about time they did.

you cant deny that the sprite work is very very VERY impressive.

You need to put support in your Windows for non-unicode programs in JAPANESE in order to work, or use NTLA

but ya, we need more new beat'em ups these days, not remakes or sequels.

We also need less animu girl fighting fan service games. >_>

Seriously, I could swear I see a vagina in that last pic.

Street Fighter mixed with Streets of Rage would be awesome. Real side scrolling beat 'em up.

Meh...I might download that later when my bro is not sapping my bandwidth. It's like Nitro said, seems a little too M.U.G.E.N.-like at first glance.

I agree, no argument there. Don't agree with your opinions on BlazBlue, but I'll agree with you there.

But seriously, can we get back on topic?

GiantBomb's quicklook pretty much embodies everything I don't like about the game.

Buy KOFXII.

That Jin was terrible. Didn't use the proper moves at all.

You really love that A button, doncha? Interesting matches nonetheless. If my connection is good for BB (it's inclined to be erratic) we should have a match sometime.

I dig the game. Not hardcore into it, but I very much enjoy what I have played so far. Then again, I liked the Guilty Gear games, so that is why I dig this game. Got the PS3 version here since I don't have a fight stick and prefer the PS3 d-pad.

feel free to add me (360) for games.
been playing/practicing this religiously since release.

Most if not all Jins I play against go apeshit freezing projectile on me.
But anyways, I main Ragna, and that's going well so far.

I probably add you later Cracka_J.

I totally love 2D fighting games, and I'm glad to see them making a comeback this year, and I hope to see more of them in the coming years. Street Fighter IV is awesome, and I'm highly anticipating King of Fighters XII. I haven't tried this game yet, but I do intend on getting my hands on it at some point.

Well, I just hope Blazblue doesn't attract the same type of weeaboos that Guilty Gear XX does. You know, the idiots who are gay for Bridget and talk about in what positions they would rape Dizzy. Rather than you know, discuss actual gameplay etc.

But since you're playing it, I'm worried.

Also the game character balance looks like it's completely out of whack. Two or three top tiers that you'll only see in serious matches? The fuck? Mind you, I bought this game and tried it.

I'm trying to give it a chance but... ehh...

Saner the link to that game no longer works. I get a 404 error

Jul 14, 2009, 11:53 AM
Hot ass game. :D I'm definatly getting it. Unfortunately my 360 got the E74 error AGAIN! And i'd be despurate enought to do break it open and do the permintate fix so it doesn't have the red lights again, asuming it works, I've heared cases where it has. Now I have to work up the courage to actually do it...

...Oh this has nothing to do with Blazblue, does it? I'm going to main Bang, he's like the greatest loud ninja ever. :) Haku-men will be my second, Noel and Taokaka will tie for third. But untill I get it all I can do is draw fan art out of eagerness... I pretty much stopped caring about Guilty Gear AC+.

NPCMook
Jul 14, 2009, 02:52 PM
Just FYI Bang is a VERY difficult character to use just starting out, be wary of activating Super Bang mode... I know it will be difficult because of his awesome theme music, but resist the urge.

Hakumen is awesome, but people underestimate him

Noel is okay, but she's easily beatable, if you can't get a combo started you will get owned pretty hard.

Taokaka is interesting...

I'm borrowing this game from my brother and I have to say that this game is totally awesome. Noel is one character along with Litchi that I plan on using as my mains. Litchi is rather difficult but fun to play as.

I love this game. It's easy for me to get into and I love the story mode and the "Teach me Ms.Litchi!" segments. I have no idea why Saner hates this game. None. At all. To me this game is like McDonald's, I'm Loving It.

I've Been playing this a lot lately. I love Street Fighter IV, but I've kind of burned myself out on it. I had Been playing it pretty regularly since its release haha. I'd play King of Fighters XII more if I could ever find a non laggy match (is it any better on 360? I have it on PS3) =/. Been playing a lot of BlazBlue offline and play some short sessions here and there online, definitely good stuff.
