the topic name may be a bit confusing so i will explain.
this is a thread to post about video games you have found and purchased, pictures are not required but are nice to have, however were not talking about brand spanking new games no.
old games, rare games, near impossible to find games, obscure games.
things like this would include, mother 3 us beta game cartridges, a game that had a short life as the company closed shortly after release, ala robotech crystal dreams, games that are just plain rare like virtual boy games.

as a start, it bee awhile since i got these.
find 1: armored core project phantasma (i'm unsure why this game is so rare, but it is. the us publisher not long ago was still sellinging ac1 and acmoa but not acpp, i got this about 5 years ago on an ebay auction, it came with with ac1 (original release version, and acmoa.

find 2: a game shop opened up in town around last christmas, they are very obscure and can get jst about any game ever made. there i found on the shelf, metal gear and snake's revenge.

edit: oops i made a mistake in the title lol.

My personal "jew" finds are Ghost in The Shell playstation 1 version. Einhander, another playstation 1 title that goes for hundreds on ebay and my original copy of FFVII when the game first launched.

Also, not really a game, but the Broadband adapter for gamecube quickly became rare and I have two.

A friend of mine used to work at Gamestop and gave me the hookup. 83 Much of my hard-to-find/older games library is thanks to him.

Gundam Battle Assault 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2 (PS2 version), Guilty Gear XX (back in a time when nobody knew what it was), Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (PS1 version)... these are all fighting games, aren't they... but they're the first ones that come to mind.

Also thanks to him, I got some nice game music CDs - namely the Castlevania 20th Anniversary special package dealie with a medley CD, poster, stylus, and game card case with the Castlevania logo. It came with preordering Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, but I didn't even have a DS at the time. He also got me that PSU OST that has the one song in PSUv1 that wasn't included on the For Brighter Day soundtrack. I think that was the last time his hookup worked for me, though.

On my own, I think the best thing I found was Strider 2 for PS1. It came with 2 CDs - one had the original arcade/Genesis Strider, and the other had Strider 2. I thought it was the funniest thing in the world that Strider 2 was on the Strider 1 CD, and Strider 1 was on the Strider 2 CD. It wouldn't be until much later that I'd find out that every single American copy of the game was misprinted.

Actually, I have Strider 2 for PSX and mine are both printed correctly.

1 - Found Chrono Trigger for SNES with box and all instruction booklets.
2 - Final Fantasy III (VI) for SNES with box and all instruction booklets.
3 - Back in the day I was a Squaresoft whore so I have all of the titles
that Square released for the PSX, first prints. 90% are in mint
condition too.

Going through what I have, stuff I thought was somewhat rare, pretty much isn't (going by ebay prices anyway).

Only thing I have is a couple of video game swag items, mainly the Starfox Adventures Survival Kit from a Circuit City promotion. I don't know the value, but I'm sure it'll be swarmed if I were to ebay it.

And as I type this, appareantly that Duck Tales 2 cart I traded in for 3 dollars store credit years ago was worth more. . a whole lot more. . .

God damnit.

I have a copy of Ocarina of Time signed by Miyamoto.

But that's not exactly something that was "found" - my brother got it signed at E3 about a million years ago.

I have more than one copy of Killer 7 in my house, which definitely makes my household a relatively rare find.

I did find a brand-new Sega Saturn in my local Toys R Us several years after it had been on store shelves. They had been renovating the store and I guess they found a bunch in the stock room. They also put out a bunch of old games. So I got the Saturn for $30 and my brother got Virtual On Network Edition and some sort of Sega Rally game for - I'm serious - 1 cent each.

Though those aren't exactly worth much, it was a great find on a personal level. I'm a huge fan of finding a random gem of a game (or in this case, a system) long after you were even thinking about it. It's pretty much the only reason why I still stop into Gamestops whenever I walk by them and take a moment to look at their GBA shelf. I got Sigma Star Saga for $10 back in college and I'm glad I caught it. It's a fun title.

Apparently, I have rare copies of:
- Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (PAL version with rare cover artwork, instead of 3D models)
- Front Mission 3 (PAL version, allegedly very rare as it was pulled out of Europe after a few weeks of sales)

That's probably about it, to be honest.

Oh. Actually, when my brother was still writing for gaming sites, he got review copies of both Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill for PSX, though I have no idea where those are. If I recall correctly, it was the game discs (though minus the second disc in Metal Gear's case, for a reason I can't quite recall), but with temporary labels on them and they came in CD-R cases with photocopied manuals.

I guess those are kind of rare, right?

I still never understood why Konami sent him so many Playstation games, though - I don't think he started getting review copies until he was mostly writing for a Nintendo-centric site.

Still, it directly contributed to us getting a Playstation, so that was neat, I guess.

I don't remember exactly what I have in my collection that's rare/semi-rare, but sitting right next to me is my DC PSO v.1, GC PSO and PSO+, PSO Ep3 (I consider this one rare because I was one of the few who actually bought it at the time around here), a working Dreamcast and working NES. I have a few collectors edition stuff hanging around too.

^_-

Did I mention I'm a packrat and haven't got rid of a single game as long as
I've been a gamer. I also take VERY good care of all my games and have
strategy guides for all my RPG's, new and old.

1 - First print Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny 2, both in Mint condition.
2 - Project Justice and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for Dreamcast both in Mint.
3 - Lunar and Lunar 2 special editions for PSX, both with Working Designs
strategy guides. In Mint condition.

I wish I had left some of my games wrapped. :-?

What fun is that? You're supposed to open them, and play them in the first place. :p

Yeah but some of them are worth A LOT if the're still wrapped, Like the two Lunar
games and their strategy guides for instance.

I guess I could cheat and have them re-wrapped. lol (I keep the little stickers that you have to peel
off the top of the game case so I guess I could make it look like the game was new. lol Don't ask me
why I do it's just a habit.)

I don't even understand that because those two Lunar games are fucking shitty as fuck. Yet they're constantly being ported or remade to every damn new system. Especially Lunar 1.

Well, i bought this Final Fantasy VIII game for PC about 6-7 years (or more) ago in a store which has moved on some years ago.
I knew it would probably be pretty rare after a while, even then iīve never thought about selling it as i just like it way too much.
So itīs still in my possesion. =)

Probably the rarest game I have on me atm is the Gamecube disc of Ikaruga, which used to belong to a friend of mine. I think he sold it to me for $20. :3

I used to have a Sega CD and 32X with Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix, and a shitload of N64 games, but I regrettably sold them... ;_;

I, too, found some Jews recently.

They include all three Star Wars games for the original SNES, one being complete with box and manual. SCORE! :D

Thought the rarest Jew in my possession would be Xenogears for the PS1.

When I was younger I used to get jobs for the sole purpose of getting games :P I would get the import and then the domestic versions... I was kinda crazy back then.
I still love to get games but I don't go down the import road too often anymore.

I think the rarest game I ever bought was Xenogears. Normally this wouldn't be shocking since I had a playstation, but this was during the ers of PS2, where a copy sealed on ebay went for a good bit more than you could buy it in a store for. I found one in a store and bought it for $40. I still have yet to get past Aveh, or whatever it is right after the tournament.

Another jewel would be probably getting Brave Fencer Musashi for Christmas the one year - apparently, it goes for like $60 at a convention I was at recently. Who knew?

Aside from that, the only real import-like game I ever got that was pricey was Gantz for PS2. Spent $80 for it at the same convention last year, and love every minute of its unintelligle squiggly head exploding.

If you want the game case and booklet, it's going for $99 and up. The un-opened ones are going for $180 and up. :(
