View Full Version : What affects rare drop rates?

I know that there are many ideas about what affects when items drop. Personally, I believe that rare drop rates are affected by beat times, but what does everyone else think? You can either take the poll or post an answer. I don't care which, I'm just curious.

On a side note, my power's been out for almost a week. You know what that means people? No PSO at all for me! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_evil.gif

Aside from the fact the Luck Stat only influences Critical Hits, it's pretty inconclusive what else if not Beat Time influences rare item drops. So, yeah, random chance. boop.

I agree it has to do with random chance. The only problem is, MY RANDOM CHANCE SUCKS!!!!

I know for a fact that it has to do A LOT with beat time and the amount of time you spend in a level. The more you play the level, the higher your chance of getting better rares. I tried it in vhard ruins, and i got caduceus after 30 total runs. Vajayas started showing up around my 10th run. Beats have A LOOOOOT to do with it. I had school off this week, and played in the mornings, got nothing. But at night all my rares magically popped up. But that was in forest only. For ruins it's the other way around, and mines it's like mid day. Caves it's around 400 beats. Trust me on this. At least for Pinkals. Whitills im not so sure about. Luck is just for critical hits and nothing else.

I've play at all times of the day and in all levels. Sometimes you just hit runs where you get a bunch of rares, sometimes you dont. It's totally random, well as random as a computer can be at least. I mean c'mon how many people say that got a system at the casino? I play up there a lot and I know damn well I can loose my shirt in a few minutes, well not really because I make the pussy safe bets =D But still the only thing that has a hand on what the dice are gonna land on is pure luck, and no matter how good your luck is the house will always beat your pair of kings with a jack a three and an eight every day of the week http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif . But hey you may get lucky and he breaks you win, same here if the game busts you get a rare and get to go on to the next had looking for more, simple as that.

I would have to agree with you there, so far the only rare item i have found is Angry Fists and i have been doing ult forest and caves for like ages, and i cant go on to mines because i cant damage them ! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

I think certain items rely on time, and most on random chance.

I guess given the options, I'd say random chance. Most likely, there's some sort of an interal clock that we don't see. I don't know how else to explain rare monsters and the TP trick.

I mean, if you do the TP trick, essentially, nothing except time changes. However, if you get a rare monster at a certain beat time, and try it again at that same time, you won't get it again (same odds).

The only way we'll ever know is if a hacker bothers to spend the time to break ST's coding (which will never happen). Even then, there are probably factors that you cannot control. In other words, even though ST knows what determines rare finds, I doubt even they can get a certain item all the time.

This may sound crazy... but i think it may have to do with the way u kill the enemy and the amount of damage done to it tell me wat u think

I believe it is affected by beat time mainly because I find nothing in the mornings, and all of my rares at night.

Ex: I was looking for a Secret Gear with my Whithill FOmar. I did 37 runs in a week through Hard Mines looking for it. When I finally killed that ghillic and the little red box appeared, it was Beat 659. Another Ghillic was on his way to hit me so I killed him too and BAM... another red box, still in the same Beat. Later, I find a Diska of Liberator from a Garanz on Beat 679. All my finds seem to happen when the last digit of the Beat is a 9. That's why I think beat times affect drops.

It better NOT have to do with beat time. It's bad enough we have to deal with section IDs. I think it is random myself. Also the way you kill a monster theory doesn't seem to work either. I have watched when I have gotten critical hits and so forth, it makes no difference. I really think the formula is simple. Say, Yaz3000 drops from Gillchich in ult mines. It's POSSIBLE to find on the 1st run, I believe. However, it is not likely to happen. The odds are probably somewhere between 1-50 and 1-100 runs. If you make an attempt to do lots of Mine runs, you will probably get it. If you elect to mix it up, and hardly do mines, you probably won't be finding a Yaz. Took me 30-40 runs.

ok whoever got the idea that luck alters your ability to find weps your wrong im afraid http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif...im a very experienced player i had dreamcast pso ver1 and 2 and i can tell you that rare items are not affected by luck but they are affected by mostly beat time...yes it is little affected by rare chance but its mostly beat time ive killed 2 delsabers in same beat and got 2 arms but i havent found in any other beats http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif its a range of beats that you find weps http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I am absolutely convinced that beat times determine the appearance of rare monsters. I recently discovered that my Redria FO finds red slimes between ehh 270-330 or so (about 2:45pm - 3:30 pm) because every time i play addicting food during that time i find at LEAST 3 red slimers. I must have killed at least 15 so far, and no lavis cannon >:(

seems to me my rare drops chance each week. Sometimes they drop like mad in the morning, but not at night. Then, nothing happens in the morning, and all the actions at night.

Whatever.

And different charters have different luck at different difficulty levels & at different times Vindel, My foneweal,(verindia) didn't find any rares AT ALL until she hit ult. now she finds them all the time. EX(oran) found them all throught out hard and vry hard, in abundence, but in ult, things have dried up, and i find almost nothing now. (save my pride and joy, my red parstion with 30 to dark and 15 to hit... it's the best weapon i've found so far...=/ )

My redra has yet to come into his own finding stuff, namely armor, his sol perpuse for being. (an auska would be nice too.) my pinkel finds so many wands i can't see stright, but nothing eles. (well, stag currys by the truck load, but no... oh what is it called... the 1975 weapon, the metal ketana...my mind is drawing a blank right now...) I'm hoping my new Skly will yeald some nice swords, but as of yet, she has found nothing much so far, but she's still young...

and if one guy isn't finding anything, i can switch to someone eles, and rares will start droping, and vice verse. (EX. Gee, ex is finding a ton of red boxes today, lets hunt with Rurouni (The redra, extra credit if you know where the name comes from.) and look for armor. 3 hours later, and nothing, not even a grinder...)

But all in all, from my point of view, it's totaly random. If beat time does play a role, it must effect different chars and different id's differenly, and that, is to much for me to take in. lol.

all i know is, when i want something, i can't find it, and when it's not important to me, i get way to freaking many. a good example is grinders. I remember 6 weeks ago, i was trying to make a summit moon, and needed 55 to max out a cane... NORMALY grinders were not an issues, i maxed out two yamitos and a musishia, not to mention a few others, but when i wanted them I couldn't find any for 3 weeks. (my sister, on the other hand, found tons, but would not share...)

I finaly get it made, and have no real need for grinders @ the moment and i find grinder atop grinder for the next 2 weeks... (at one point in the mines, i remember having 2 diegrinders, and a mono on the ground in the same room @ the same time... it made me sick... granted i'm not complaining, i maxed out my red parstion as soon as i found it, but still...) http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

EX-731 (just rambling on, i'm a little borded here at work. forgive me if come off alittle long winded.)

Yeah, it is all random. But, I think beat time has a lot to do with rare drops. I noticed that I hardly ever get anything in the morning, and get a lot of rares (really good ones) at night. For example, tonight, I found:

- CADUCEUS (Ult Caves)
- GUILTY LIGHT (Ult Caves)
- STORM WAND:INDRA x2 (Ult Caves)
- GAE BOLG (Ult Seabed)
- Photon drops

Those are some pretty good finds. Now that I think about this night stuff, I also found my 11-star DF FIELD at night!
