I think it's a mini jumping mini game where you collect points for something. Sonic and Amy are in the same team with 0 points.

I think the blue square you can see on the ground makes you jump to the next platform and serves as the landing spot. I just do not think that they will implement a jump feature, but maybe jumping will appear like this in new areas? It would be a nice touch.
But I also think that they are playing a mini game in this screenshot, though, what lessens my certainness about that.
Interesting, anyway! :)

If it implements a Vs. arena that would rock. But yea that "jumping" screenshot proves to me that they are going to implement mini-games. Awesome. I'll be up for "Drunken Island Hopping". Last place has to drink a 16oz cup of Yager!
