partner machine question

I recently reset my PM and bought the EX Device GH465 but the device really doesn't matter but how do i upgrade my pm to a new device? thanks

For Ex device, raise your PM's battle stat before using it. Get S rankings on free missions to boost it up quickly.

I believe there is a full explanation on psupedia aboufeeding, battle stats, EX devices, and what each do as well. Sorry I didn't add link but I'm at work atm.....gl!!
